Tony Nadal: I want Djokovic to get injured before Roland Garros and the Olympics

Damn Nadal fans defending this creep like your lives depend on it “it’s just a joke he didn’t mean it” Ok and? You can say whatever you want and then hide it behind “it’s just a joke”, does that make it ok? Uneducated, filthy bunch. Just like the Nadal clan they worship.

"Rafa will probably play this year at Roland Garros and I hope he will be in good shape. I would like him to win another Grand Slam, it would be really nice for him and the whole family. The only thing I would not like to see is Djokovic in Paris, neither at Roland Garros nor at the Olympic Games, where I hope for gold for Nadal. "I would like Djokovic to get injured along with a few others so that my nephew can reach the final more easily," said Toni Nadal."

The media reports that Tony Nadal made this comment with a smile and was probably joking, however, he received huge criticism from the sports public. We will remind you that Nadal is currently in the process of rehabilitation and is expected to perform in the USA at Indian Wells and Miami.

It's a joke. This modern world is crazy if a joke can't be understood as a joke. Can I go back to pre-twitter world?

Before you guys start talking shiit, remember - Tony is not being malicious here, he's just recognizing the strength of Rafael's opponents and trying to make a joke.

He is but he's doing it in the absolute stupidest way possible. I've said it before when stuff like this has been said but you do not risk saying something like that in public knowing full well your comments get spread among a tennis community that has such hardened and sometimes borderline crazy fan bases that all it takes is one to take such statements to heart and we get another Seles incident.

I agree with this

What happens if a current top rank player skips a slam just bcz he dont like it for example agassi skip wimbledon in his early career i beleive.

Will he be fined by ATP or ITF?????

It is really funny bcz 1992 WB is agassi 1st slam title after 3 Runner ups showing at 1990-91 FO & 1990 USO

A a joke is supposed to be funny no ? he’s already made the same "joke" in October of last year , it sounds more like a real wish under the guise of a joke. That said there is a background of truth, Nadal will probably not be able to win if the other players are in great shape. Thanks for the confirmation Tony (y)

It’s never nice or respectful to joke about harm coming to others.

Your comment clearly shows your genes should be removed from the genepool, by an accident. J/k, it’s my respect towards you.

What a moron you are. This is pure personal offence, idiot. Djokovic is a public figure with great achievements, and you know when someone makes a joke about him, that's a joke clearly.

Was what I said wrong?
Yes, very. If you can't understand this joke as: "there are other players right now that are very good and Nadal needs them to not play as good as they can in order to have a chance" I don't know what to say to you. It's clearly a joke that more than anything praises the competition.

I don’t know about you guys, but personally I’m offended, I’m outraged, I’m infuriated, I’m appalled, and I’m horrified.

Octain Obvious. How would we figure these things out without her?
You still o_O didn't understand that I agreed with @Azure’s observation: "Nadal’s legs look a little different here" (in the picture a Djokofan posted; the post that contained the picture has vanished by now).

Then (in my opinion), he should have said that, or something to that effect. Yes, I know that Toni's comment was more of a compliment to Novak (and a few others) - and also a slight shot to his nephew - but just because he's kidding (about the injuries to rivals) doesn't make it clever or particularly appropriate.

I'm not outraged, but do think it's in poor taste to talk about a rival player getting injured/sick/dying (just kidding, right?).
Just talk about the importance of Rafa wanting to win RG and Olympics Gold and what it would mean to his family, and add that, at present, Rafa would need for Novak and a few others to be playing poorly for that to happen.

No it doesn't. We don't give Delpo 5 more slams because he was talented enough to do it but never healthy enough to compete. The body is part of playing a sport. If it can't remain healthy, it can't compete.

Completely different. Delpo was never the favourite to win any slam and only won. Nadal was on a quite few occasions as World No 1 (08, 09, 12, 14, 19, 22) and won 22 slams.

It's OK when Djokovic fans say Wimby 2020 or Aus 2022 was astericked when Djoker was behind in Slam count.....

You make too much sense for this place.

Even if it is a joke, it is a joke in bad taste and not funny at all. This kind of talk can maybe even motivate a crazy fanatic supporter of Nadal to go injure Djokovic as happened in the case of a Graf fan stabbing Seles.

How would Toni Nadal like it if people wished harm on him because they don’t like reading his stupid comments? And what if someone decided to cause him the harm instead of waiting for it to happen.

Djoker, Alcaraz and Sinner will be at the Olympics
Uncle Tony wants Olympic Gold for Rafa.
How is that even possible given the injury?

Nadal was hardly ever the favourite outside clay. You can’t just hand him slams he wasn’t even a lock to win! Lmao

When you win 22 slams or had more slams than 99.99 of your competitors at the time of play or even all time, of course you're the favourite. lmao
Not when Djokovic and Federer were in the draw. As well as other capable hard court and grass players he struggled with. This is the classic case of seeing things through your Nadal rose tinted specs. You can say that about clay for any event he missed but not off it. Be reasonable.

Well he has a 11-7 h2h in slams vs Djokovic and 10-4 with Fed.

21-11 combined.

Also leads them 3-1 at Aus open and 2-1 on us open on his less favourable surfaces.

And I'm not saying he would win them all all mate, far from it but a good 6-8 slams he had a great chance too add to his tally in since 2005 be it injured during play or misses slam alltogether.

They can all say that though. If if if. Remember your idol’s words. He was 100% right.

We don't call Monica Seles the GOAT just because she won 7 out of the last 8 slams she played (and the last 9 that were held) prior to her stabbing and 2.5 year layoff from the sport. We say she was the biggest "what if" in the sport. In a similar vein, Nadal's missed slams can't count for anything tangible because he missed them. He didn't play. Perhaps if he played a different playstyle he would be injured less, but I'd venture to say he'd also be less successful. You can cope all you want with giving players moral slams, but what matters is what you really win.

No matter how it happened, the facts are Nadal won the 2022 AO. He has 2 AOs and no one can take that away from him. The same way Djokovic has 3 RGs, despite only playing Nadal to win 1 of them. You can't grant people slams they didn't play. Everyone was saying Djokovic's CYGS was a forgone conclusion before the last match in 2021, no one thought Alcaraz had a chance in Wimbledon last year, and very few considered RG 2021 would go in Novak's favor.

But all of that happened. Sport is about not knowing a result before the tournament begins. It's about finding out.

Tony jokes about Alcaraz, Djo and Med.
TTW keyboard warriors...

Every single person taking this seriously is such a rube. This is classic Toni Nadal humor. He gave a TED talk in Spain awhile back, and he kept referring to Federer as "that one guy from Switzerland, I forget his name now. He wasn't very good anyway" (and likewise for Djokovic as "that one no-name guy from Serbia").

+1 to the guy above who said it's actually a sign of respect. Yep, Roddick used to say similar stuff about Federer back in the day... "I was chilling in the locker room, trying to injure him so I'd finally have a chance"
