Currently these would be my rankings.

Women:

1. Serena Williams
2. Steffi Graf
3. Margaret Court
4. Helen Wills Moody
5. Suzanne Lenglen
6. Chris Evert
7. Martina Navratilova
8. Maureen Connolly
9. Monica Seles
10. Billie Jean King
11. Justine Henin
12. Althea Gibson
13. Alice Marble
14. Maria Bueno
15. Venus Williams
16. Douglas Dorthy Chambers
17. Louise Brough
18. Margaret Osborne Du Pont
19. Evonne Goolagong
20. Doris Hart

I was surprised how far down I ended up having Evert and Navratilova. They are great players, but Helen Wills and Lenglen were just both much more dominant than either, and Court has many more wins and bigger numbers and was just as proficient in doubles as Martina too. Serena and Graf are just way above in slams.

Men

1. Rod Laver
2. Roger Federer
3. Pete Sampras
4. Pancho Gonzales
5. Novak Djokovic
6. Rafael Nadal
7. Bill Tilden
8. Ken Rosewall
9. Bjorn Borg
10. Jack Kramer
11. Don Budge
12. Elsworth Vines
13. Jimmy Connors
14. Ivan Lendl
15. Fred Perry
16. Lew Hoad
17. Andre Agassi
18. Henri Cochet
19. Rene Lacoste
20. Mats Wilander

Did you mean Dorothea Douglass Lambert Chambers?

Yes that is who I mean. I have never seen her play but she was the absolute dominant women player pre Lenglen and pre world War 1 (and she was almost 40 by the time Lenglen emerged so hardly in her prime anymore) and has an incredible record at Wimbledon, so I figured she should be somewhere in the top 20 atleast. Also at 38 she played an incredible match against Lenglen the first year she won Wimbledon, having 2 match points.

RenaRafa, I think that Pauline Betz was better than several of your female players. I rank her among the top ten.

Good call, she's the most overlooked all time great. I would have her in the top 20, though not top 10. I think the results, achive footage and opinion suggest she was not as good as the two dominant players either side of her - Marble and Connolly.

70sHollywood. Thanks. Betz was very strong. Even when being 40 plus she gave Althea Gibson a great fight.

Good collection of names , missing Supermac , then each has its own ranking , the men IMHO hangs too much for the last period and lost on the road 70 + 80 years .
I quite like enough the women .
