Top 4 Draws RG 2020

It depends who he plays in the 4th round. Wawrinka could be a challenge but he just beat down FAA & I don’t see Murray putting up much of a fight. Schwartzman is always tricky on clay but Thiem knows his game well. If he can get through the first 3 rounds without spending too much time on court, I’d say his chances look brighter.

Ruud in R3 is really one of the clay players that looks to be in best shape at the moment. Beat Khachanov, Sonego, Cilic, Berrettini before losing to Djokovic in Rome (served for the first set). Today he beat Fognini without problems.

I don't think Wawrinka or Murray has anything to offer, as sad as it is...

Thiem just spent himself winning USO. The last thing he wants or needs is going through 4 rounds of attrition with different styles of tennis, ending up with a queue of 3 monster matches. Unquestionably, the RG organisers set him up for a fail. I hope they get what they deserve for that.

Physically, he’ll be fine. His fitness is top notch & he’s had 2 weeks to recover. If he keeps his first 3 rounds quick & tidy, I’d say his chances improve greatly.

I’m not sure the RG organizers plotted against him :sneaky: but his path is certainly no cakewalk.

Ruud has looked good recently, I just don’t see him as a big threat in Bo5. Wawrinka is always dangerous if he’s on, hasn’t played much tennis lately though. Thiem’s game is too physical for Murray’s limited movement.

I am not sure that he "will be fine". He was suffering from some problems at the USO, and no one in recent times has attempted a second stint at a Major in such s short time span. It is a certainty that he will experience problems from that. Going through absurd draw will make his elimination a sure thing.

RG has given him the most difficult draw also last year. One has to be pretty big fan of coincidences to think that as soon as he established himself as a contender at RG two consecutive hellish draws just "happened" to him. Of all the players and all the tournaments exactly at RG and exactly to the newly emerged challenger of the two top players there. Interesting.

F: Djokovic
Difficulty of draws going forward, as well as change of one to other:

Djokovic - 3/10. No difference, Hurkacz going down before R3 and being replaced by Galan is easier, but not significantly enough to lower his number from 3/10.

Nadal - 7/10. Crushed as expected, but dangerous floaters Fognini and Isner went out before R4 and were replaced by Sebastian Korda. Zverev, Thiem, and Djokovic still a tough draw.

Thiem - 7/10. About the same as Nadal, an easy R16 and tough QF-F.

Zverev - 9/10. No breaks for him - De Minaur isn't any better than Cecchinato really, Sinner and Goffin were 50-50 going into R1 so nothing really lost there. If anything Sinner seems more impressive than Goffin would've been. Then after what I expect will be a decent fight, he still has to go through Nadal, Thiem, and Djokovic.
