Top 5 greatest players of each decade

clout

Hall of Fame
Each decade has produced some sublime talent in tennis and several of the players have carved out a spot for themselves among the games ATGs. So who were the 5 best players of each decade? IMO I got:

2010s (2010-2019):
1. Novak Djokovic
2. Rafael Nadal
3. Roger Federer
4. Andy Murray
5. Stan Wawrinka

2000s (2000-2009):
1. Roger Federer
2. Rafael Nadal
3. Andre Agassi
4. Lleyton Hewitt
5. Novak Djokovic/Marat Safin/Andy Roddick (three way tie)

1990s (1990-1999):
1. Pete Sampras
2. Andre Agassi
3. Stefan Edberg
4. Jim Courier
5. Boris Becker

1980s (1980-1989):
1. Ivan Lendl
2. John McEnroe
3. Mats Wilander
4. Boris Becker
5. Stefan Edberg

1970s (1970-1979):
1. Bjorn Borg
2. Jimmy Connors
3. John Newcombe
4. Guillermo Vilas
5. Ken Rosewall

I'll be honest that I'm totally clueless about pre-open era tennis besides the Laver's and Rosewall's of the world, so I'll only go as far back as ranking the 70's. Feel free to create your own lists :)

I agree with your lists, with one exception. Marat Safin with 2 Grand Slams was undoubtedly better than Roddick and Djokovic with only 1 Grand Slam in the 2000s. Roddick is closer to Juan Carlos Ferrero with 1 Grand Slam than to Safin with 2. Also, Del Potro won 1 Grand Slam in the 2000s defeating both Nadal and Federer while Roddick never defeated Federer in a Grand Slam match, but that is another topic.

Best 5 players of the 2000s:
Federer, Nadal, Agassi, Hewitt and Safin.

Yea I think Safin has the best argument for the 5th spot due to how high his peak was. Nole and Andy (Roddick that is) were more consistent tho, with Nole probably edging out Andy
