topspin CF and unique Big hitter same string?

ok so, a while back i bought one pack of each CF and unique BH. i could not help but notice that the strings had the exact same color, had the exact same plastic clip around the strings, and were cut the exact same way. one end of the string was cut flat and the other was cut at an angle for both. Playing with them they felt similar, but i strung them at quite different tensions to truly compare them one to one. All these companies have "german made" strings and it makes me think that half of them are coming from the same factory. Maybe all of this is just a bunch of coincidence. seems hard to believe tho.

Any thoughts?

They feel like different strings to me. Unique Big Hitter plays just like BB ALU Power, and CF plays a bit softer than BH.

I don't believe that CF is actually made in Germany.

If this is the first time you've noticed different companies marketing the exact same strings, then welcome to Tennis Marketing 101. Outside of Gut, most strings are all made by the same few factories. That is why you should NEVER pay for an expensive string like a Gamma or Wilson. Your extra money goes to thier ad budget, not better strings.

Uh this is not valid jsut for tennis marketing 101. I think it's the same for every business

I can see how u think they look the same but theyre different strings in their perspective...I wish theyd make the CF in another color to the honest with u, instead of the dull grey :(

well at least in this case the price difference between CF and BH is not very much, maybe a .50 a set at most.

well, I was wondering about this too. Someone did mention that he did a test where he used two same racquets with same crosses and tension. The only difference is the main where one is CF and the other is Big Hitter. He could not tell the difference. Perhaps you should do the same blind test and see. Then report here. I would do it, but I don't have a spare set of CF 17g.

I'm actually interested in this too. I've seen a reputable poster state that Big hitter blue was the same as topspin cyberpower. If this is the case, how come their gray polys don't have the same situation?

I'd also like to point out the SMELL of these strings. Anyone else experienced topspin reels smelling distinctly like vinegar? I suspect that perhaps CF and BH are closer than we expect, too. However, I can't comment too much on BH, I've never had the desire to buy sets, as I've always had reels of CF.

Can anyone with extensive experience with both comment?

I've used both... I I'll say i've tried BH 2 times since so many people said it was really similar to Lux, I ended up cutting it out after a couple hit sessions as I really hated the feel. As for CF, I use it pretty much until it breaks.

Summing it up, they are nothing alike in my experience. (yes it was same racquet/tension)

It could be that they are very similar but one is stiffer than the other. Like the factory just add some material to make it harsher?? It is strange though as Big Hitter is same color as CF and Big Hitter Blue is same color as CP. Plus they both came out around the same time.

Please elaborate on the difference in feel. Maybe you had an off day? Placebo effect? Maybe your mind was playing tricks on you because Cyber Flash is more popular than Big Hitter and thus it "felt" better?

The best way to test is to do a blind test. String same racquet/tension, etc...shuffle the racquets or have someone secretly label which is which...then test them. See if you can tell the difference.

well i tried Big hitter before I even heard of CF. BH felt boardy and extremely stiff while CF felt bouncier (I guess less stiff) and more power. I've used a couple polys from each brand so I don't think it's a placebo effect. So ya no off day, just didn't like BH and don't understand why people says it's almost the same as Lux. Also, I just remembered when stringing them, I remember BH being more dry like Pro Hurricane while CF has that more slick coating.

good points. Unique is a co. that prides itself on making it's products in the USA. All of a sudden, Big Hitter/Blue are made in Germany? anyone else play with both? In a week, I will.

Since you are talking about Topspin CF, Do you know if is this an american brand that sales German products? Or Topspin is a German brand and Topspin USA is the Distributor of a Topspin Germany, Do any of you know the website of Topspin Germany?

PS: I just realize I am a professional know, and just took me a year and a half :)

The more I read about this topic the more confused I get. Some posters seem to think it's the exact same string, some seem to think it's different. Perhaps it's the same bar a minor difference such as a coating or similar? I.e perhaps it's a licensed technology/polymer blend that is just finished slightly differently...

I just got my Big Hitter/Blue shipped....out of the package, they each look and feel exactly like CF/CP, although the BHB didn't have the smell that CP had....play tests to come soon...

Like it says above. Most are made from the same factory. Thats how it goes with tennis marketing.

The Big Hitter and CyberFlash are DIFFERENT strings. The CyberBlue and Big Hitter Blue are the same.

While Big Hitter and CyberFlash are indeed different they are what I would refer to as sibling strings, related but different.

I've posted some thoughts about CF and BH in the NickB poly review thread. I need to hit with CF more, but when I do I'll post more on them here or in a new thread.

Do you have any examples of different strings by different companies that are actually the same string? Anyone have a list?
