Application sent by Kei to the Gurufils school of hot shots and wizardry. Unfortunately, the Guru already has a student and is yet unsure if he'll take on more students.

Disapointing ending from Stan. :(

I am not happy when he just doesn't care, especially knowing what he can do when he does.

Congrats to Kei on reaching the 3rd Masters final of his career and his 2nd of 2016.
Has to be said though that was a pretty terrible effort from Stan in the 2nd set.

I think Mark Pechey had it about right. He said Stan was a great player but not always a great competitor. I think we just saw that in evidence tonight. Stan often lets his frustrations overwhelm him and losing that 1st set to Kei when he had been the dominant player but blew the chance to serve it out just took away all his confidence and apparently motivation too. Maybe he needs to work on his mental attitude and fighting qualities a bit more.

Incidentally, am I the only one who thinks he has put on a bit of weight? He looked a bit heavier to me. Might have affected his stamina and movement.

Nishikori Strategy was different than keeping the ball low to wawrinka , he kept a lot of balls up high out of wawrinka comfort zone-this produced errors, wawrinka is not a consistent hard court player for his efforts he gets 360 points and the prize money to go with it. The first set went back and forth so much I wondered if anyone would claim it.

Nishikori is guaranteed 600 ATP points for being the finals for his efforts.

Cheers
3Fees :)

Well played by Tankrinka.

Bernie was putting too much space between himself and the competition for the WTF tank awards. You can pick up a lot of tank points at a Masters 1000. It puts some pressure on Bernie.

I thought I was a bad luck charm, since he has lately played better when I don't watch him, so I was doing something else during his matches for the past few days. But as it turns out, that was just me being superstitious. Stan's gonna Stan.:( Oh, well. He had a handful of quite nice performances this week, anyway. I will enjoy those.

Congrats to Kei!

Congrats to Kei!

Haha, that's some dedication right there:D

A fairly good Masters result and performance on the whole for Stan though. I hope he can build on it and be a contender for the USO title!

I watched the first set and Stan definitely outplayed Kei in every aspect of the game except mental. What a pathetic effort to go away so tamely in the second. Imagine Rafa doing that in his prime??

I try to be a good fan. haha ;) Venus lost, too, when I was cheering for her, and I got to thinking I was a tennis curse. o_O

Yeah, a SF is a good result. It just bugs me the way he checks out when he loses a tough set or goes down an early break. I keep hoping Magnus can somehow work him out of these funks that he gets himself into, but maybe that's just always going to be part of who Stan is. I hope you're right about the USO. I'd love something like his 2013 performance again. That was a special moment (and, to date, still my favorite overall year in his career).

I'm hoping you're right. But NYC is known for having some windy days - and he won't be on Ashe all the time - I think the wind rattled him today and he just didn't feel like competing.

Sad to see Stan like this.
yes.
Stankrinka better get things back on track for the open.

And then Stan remembered, it's only an ATP1000
Yup. Frustrated losing that first set lead, then petulant after losing the tiebreaker.

why does nishikori have his collar popped up like a fratboy?
Sun protection? Nah bro. We call the kid Special Kei. He is just another pledge striving to understand the ways of the iNISHiated.

Disapointing ending from Stan. :(

Truth. Sad.

...superstitious....

Congrats to Kei!

Stan was not mentally in the game in the second set! Seems he was thinking about something else other them playing tennis!

You think Stan can out tank Bernie at the USO ?!

I refer you to the 2012 USO, night, Ashe Stadium, verse Roddick. That's a tall order for even a master such as Stan.
Very true. That was an impressive display by Bernie. The excuse afterwards was top notch too.

But Bernie wasn't worth $10 mil yet - and his dad really hadn't perfected his head butt yet.

I hope today Stan is regretting his lack of effort - that was unprofessional.
