Semi-Pro
So as teaching pro and tournament player, I was looking for a good alternative to my current string, which is luxilon alu rough. I absolutely love this string, except for the fact it is so expensive and like all poly strings, loses tension very fast. I found myself going through two sets a week, so I wanted to find a god alternative for a much cheaper price.
I like a string that is pretty stiff and that grabs the ball very well. I use a full western grip and generate all my own power. I tired out a few strings that I thought would be good alternatives, such as barb wire, tornado, and BHBR. All of these strings when bought in a reel are much cheaper than the luxilon.
The signum pro tornado was just too soft and did not give me to control I wanted. (I like a string that is on the stiffer side and that really grabs the ball). The Barb wire was good in spin, butt the feedback from the string felt a little unpredictable. I also was not getting as heavy of a ball as I was use to getting from the luxilon. The BHBR was just perfect.
I ended up really liking the BHBR. This string is absolutely amazing. Great spin, crisp, pretty good feel, tension maintenance I can't comment on yet because I only played with it once but after about three hours I did not feel a difference in tension when it was freshly strung. I strung it at 53 on my Youtek Prestige Pro.
I was surprised at how well this string plays considering the price, but am happy I found it because now I can freely string two or three times a week and not have to worry about the price. When bought in a reel, it comes out to about four dollars a set!
This is a great all around string for a player who wants a string comparable to luxilon rough in my opinion. To be honest, I actually thought the BHBR was better than the Luxilon. As I said, it played very much the same, same crisp feeling, same spin potential, same thickness, same feeling when hitting the ball, the only difference was the BHBR was a little, and just a little, softer.
Anyone looking for a great alternative to luxilon I would give this string a try. I am picky when it comes to strings but this string is great.
