Tourna Big Hitter Blue Rough

Semi-Pro
So as teaching pro and tournament player, I was looking for a good alternative to my current string, which is luxilon alu rough. I absolutely love this string, except for the fact it is so expensive and like all poly strings, loses tension very fast. I found myself going through two sets a week, so I wanted to find a god alternative for a much cheaper price.

I like a string that is pretty stiff and that grabs the ball very well. I use a full western grip and generate all my own power. I tired out a few strings that I thought would be good alternatives, such as barb wire, tornado, and BHBR. All of these strings when bought in a reel are much cheaper than the luxilon.

The signum pro tornado was just too soft and did not give me to control I wanted. (I like a string that is on the stiffer side and that really grabs the ball). The Barb wire was good in spin, butt the feedback from the string felt a little unpredictable. I also was not getting as heavy of a ball as I was use to getting from the luxilon. The BHBR was just perfect.

I ended up really liking the BHBR. This string is absolutely amazing. Great spin, crisp, pretty good feel, tension maintenance I can't comment on yet because I only played with it once but after about three hours I did not feel a difference in tension when it was freshly strung. I strung it at 53 on my Youtek Prestige Pro.

I was surprised at how well this string plays considering the price, but am happy I found it because now I can freely string two or three times a week and not have to worry about the price. When bought in a reel, it comes out to about four dollars a set!

This is a great all around string for a player who wants a string comparable to luxilon rough in my opinion. To be honest, I actually thought the BHBR was better than the Luxilon. As I said, it played very much the same, same crisp feeling, same spin potential, same thickness, same feeling when hitting the ball, the only difference was the BHBR was a little, and just a little, softer.

Anyone looking for a great alternative to luxilon I would give this string a try. I am picky when it comes to strings but this string is great.

I wouldn't have described it as stiff as, or the same thickness as Alu. It tends to run thin for its gauge. I wouldn't have compared it to Alu, but BHBR is a great string. Better as a 16g in my view, as the 17g can get a bit too lively, too quickly. Easily one of the best polys to have been released during the last couple of years.

To me it felt very similar to alu rough, just a little less stiff. I agree that this is one of the best poly strings out there. When bought in a reel especially, the price comes out to about four dollars a set. I will use this string for a long time.

I wasn't a fan of the string, they moved too much in the string bed. It felt like a cheap synthetic. But I've also never used luxilon so I'm not sure how they compare to that particular string. They did feel alot better than the big hitter black though.

To me it felt like a very predictable, spin friendly poly, nice clean, crisp hit just like the luxilon rough, but just a tad bit more flexible. This is just my take on the string of course.

I was hitting with RPM blast and was getting arm pain and was getting a normal spin and pop on my shots. I switched to BHBR and started with a hybrid of babolat addiction. I just recently purchased a Aeropro drive and put a full bed in and love it. Its very easy on the arm and give me a nice tight top spin and great power when I flatten it out.

Yeah this sting is great, great for spin but also crisp and plush enough to flatten out the ball nicely. Stiff, but not too stiff. Just right.

BHBR is easily one of the best polys on the market. Full bed of BHBR17 in my Youtek Prestige Pros is awesome. BHSR17 is great in my slightly heavier and more open pattern Flexpoint Radical Tours.

The best part about BHBR is you can experiment with it ... for $8...I have tried it many ways and tensions and finally found my favorite

Believe it or not, when you buy a reel of it, it comes out to about 5 dollars a set. I hope they make this string forever. Better than any string twice it's price. Cool color in my prestige too...but not that it matters lol

wHEN YOU hybrid it, it's $2.50/set on the mains. Like I said, try it with ltec either os (more control) or 4s (power) or nrg2 (volleys well and power galore if strung lower).

Unique offers wonderful products for a very good price. They have two or three of the best prince/performers on the market. On top of that.. if you buy reels (unlike other companies) you get even more bang for your buck. The last reel I went thur.. I got 17.5 (40 foot sets) BHB7 17G. If you are using a frame that is small-ish (head size) you will do even better using reels.

Tourna is not the only company to offer price breaks on reels. Solinco, Signum Pro, Discho, Thunderstrings and Mamba reels also come w/ price breaks vs sets.

I kinda love bhbr. It's the best feeling when still fresh. Tons of spin on my rebels. I'm a flat hitter too, so its nice to add that touch of topspin to really get those penetrating shots or really short balls to unsuspecting guy coming up for the volley.

I'm going to have to disagree with the review of the OP though. This is NOT a stiff string at all. It's generally known for its softer attributes and great feel. For me tornado was pretty stiff and was some of the easiest spin i ever got. my wrist was sore for two days =[.

I've just finished my third bhbr17@56/ogsm17 hybrid and am going to try full bhbr soon. It's lasting me about 7-9 hours each time. I'm barely a 4.0 with my main problem being overall fitness. My serves are okay with emphasis on placement. Groundstrokes are solid when my footwork is working. Volleys are pretty bad most of the time, but I can hold my own once I warm up proper(which is unlikely for me since i don't play many matches anymore).

Many of the established companies do not offer a price break when buying a reel. Can't speak to the above mentioned companies, no experience with them. I was speaking to Wilson, Head, Gamma.. etc.

I keep hearing raving reviews for the Tourna Big Hitter strings. As they are not available in my area, I am planning to buy from TW.

Between the Black, Blue rough & Silver rough, which one has the Power of the Luxilons, Spin of the Tour Bites & Softness & Tension Maintenance of the SPPPs?

I suppose I should have said crisp, not stiff. It has a nice crisp feeling, the feeling I like from luxilon.

Yep, its definitely crisp when fresh and strung at the right tension. Terrific spin, power, touch, forgivness etc. Not as laser like in terms directional accuracy as stiffer strings such as Alu but its not far off when fresh. Sensational playing string in the first 2-3 hours. Control starts deteriorating after that. Overall though, one of the best co-polys released in the last couple of years in my view.

I'm actually interested to see if anyone plays with a hybrid of BHBR and NG. Has anyone tried this out?

I am sure it would play great in a hybrid with gut. It is just another poly, so if you like poly gut hybrid, I am sure you would like BHBR in a hybrid as well...

I used bhbr/gut for about 6 or 7 months. Playability is great, but the gut crosses sawed through the mains in no time. It just costed too much to restring as often as I did.

Yeah I figured it would saw through. I actually was looking for a gut poly hybrid but I think I like the full bed of BHBR instead.

Great, Great string. Along with tourbite 16l and 17g my two favs in terms of poly spin strings. Bhbr much softer and livelier than tourbite gives great spin less control. Tourbite abit less spin but way more control and more stiffer. My only complaint of the bhbr 17g is that I broke it after three hours of hitting. I still dont know whether I hit the shot wrong or if the string just broke.

I have a topspin game.

I did buy a set that snapped when stringing. I haven't had a problem. At the club I play at, we have a guy who was breaking strings every single week right after he would string. He switched to BHBR and they last him a month. Not once had he complained about the strings being dead and he does play 2-3 times a week.

I'm sorry I have never bought a Luxilon. I can tell you that I player with RPM Blast and the amount of topspin is equal.but different. With big hitter you get a tight topspin that really plays to a topspin players advantage. RPM seemed to just kick up too much for me. Real loose. I will say BHBR isn't as durable as RPM...they break faster. But for the price...might as well try her out for yourself!

I love this string.

Win.

Anyways, I agree with all of the above. I'm gonna test out the full bed soon. Also just strung my other racket with forten sweet =D. I love a fresh bed of forten.

I haven't tried too many polys... does having it shaped really make a huge difference in spin? Because if not i'm gonna get a reel of BHB lol.
