whats it good for?
thought so what about if you dont have sweaty hands do you get blisters
No, no blisters. Tournagrip has very low traction, so it doesn't pull your skin like tacky overgrips. It's advantage is that it doesn't get slippery at all if your hand gets sweaty. If your hand stays dry, then there's no real benefit for you. And if you're prone to blisters, then the tackier grips may not be so good for you. Maybe you don't need an overgrip at all -- just go with a leather replacement grip.
Tournagrip is great in the middle of the summer when it's hot and humid. Yeah, it only lasts a couple of hours, but it's the only thing that works in extremes. Supergrap is great until it gets extreme, then it's Tournagrip to the rescue.
My opinion exactly.
I still like Supergrap better in the extreme heat. Tournagrip does not have enough tack to stay in my hand when I sweat buckets.
I hate tourna grips. Feels like a paper towel and the durability is trash.
Only grip I use - My guess is there is a generational thing and a lot of people who played in the 80s like Tourna Grip as that is what they used and continue to use.
In the middle of summer I love it. Winter goes to the wilson pro overgrip.
I used it in the 80s and early 90s. So I started using it again when I came back to the game right after Roddick won the US Open. After 2 years, I started playing around with different overgrips and finally settled on the Supergrap.
Tournagrip is not durable, but it offers the best combination of improved grip while maintaining 'feel'. I play my frames with a single Tournagrip over the bare handle. BHBH
I wonder if anyone else does this...
i also do the same thing
Sounds rather painful to me, I'm guessing you don't think so...
Over the bare handle? Why?
TG is the only thing I can use when its hot and humid, add a couple sweatbands and i'm good to go for 3 sets, don't need to change the racket or grips. Left one racket totally soaked from a match the night before in my bag in my trunk, it was humid all night so when i took it out Sat morning the grip was still soaking wet, i was ticked b/c it had the stringjob i wanted to use. Leaned it on a bench in the sun and after warmups and a few games in the first set it was dried out and good to go. Surprised me actually.
If you sweat buckets then I suppose it's good. If you don't, you'll get rugburn. I find it way too thin and harsh.
Tourna Grip Original sucks and feels like cheap junk.
It's only for heavy sweatters in certain conditions.......
I kind of like the TournaTac XL OG though
I used it for almost 20 years, in the past few years the quality has just gone down and doesn't last as long as it did before.
I'm now playing with Pacific XTR grip.
My hands don't get sweaty enough to use TournaGrip, I've tried it and it's pretty useless for me.
I do not like tournagrip at all. Not durable, only grip I've ever used that gave me blisters.
I like the color of TG, but durabality is horrible. Im going to get blue and orange supergrap next time
Like others...sweaty hands/hot days. Durability is spotty....seems like they last me about 2 hours before they are shot.
I've read several posts saying tournagrip gives blisters. I play with a guy who use it and he gets blisters once a month. So why is TG so prone to give blisters? I have touched it and it does not feel tacky at all compared to supergrap or gamma supreme, and in my experience extremely tacky overgrips are very tough for the hand.
I have no idea. I've played with it forever and never had a blister. The durability complaint is strange too, it actually plays better once it starts wearing in and fraying, feel like it actually gives better traction once it start wearing in a bit. The other stuff just gets slick after a couple hours and stays that way.
The Wilson pro overgrips are absoloute pillows, they are soo soft on your hands and they last. Tourna Grip is not comfortable but lasts a long time. Definitely reccommend wilson pro overgrips for everyone.
The "lasts long a long time" comment is wrong. Most users of Tournagrip, including me, would say just the opposite.
Yeah the Tournagrip's durability is absolute garbage. You use it once to hit around for an hour or two and you have to take it off and regrip before you go out and use it again.
I just went out and bought Yonex Supergrap, Gamma Extreme, and the Wilson Pro OG Perforated to try them all out.
Seems like any of those 3 you can't go wrong with.
i play a leather grip, with a tourna grip over it...love the feel, but it EATS my hands alive if i don't play for a while, then try and come back. take about some bad blisters! but once my hands get caloused again its awesome!
It's good for people who sweat alot, but if you don't, then you're going to develop blisters and hurt your hands...
I've never gotten a blister or hurt my hands using Tourna Grip, in hot or cold weather, although I like it more when its warm or humid.
In the hotter months here in Aus (October-March or so) I throw a tournagrip ontop of my Wilson Pro Overgrip. I love the softness of my Wilson Pro Overgrips but the absorbtion is needed from the Tournagrip, otherwise I go through a Wilson Pro Overgrip in about 90 minutes before it's soaked through and unplayable.
I used to use TG, then found Gamma Supreme. Get the white it's awesome.
LOL! 10 char
I LOVE Wilson Pro Overgrips, but they do get a little slick when it's hot and humid. I wish there was something like the Wilson for when it's humid. I don't like the way Tournagrip feels. It feels like paper to me.
I use tournagrip. My hands sweat a lot, so when I switch racquets, the ones I have already used dry off quickly so I can keep switching if I need to.
Tournagrip is awesome stuff
I love Tournagrip, the way people percieve durability is basically whether they like it fresh or worn in. For me, I like Tourna better the more worn down it gets. I don't get the blister thing, blisters aren't any more or less frequent for me with tourna than with any other overgrip. Anyway, you get a couple of blisters and then your hand gets callused so, no big deal.
I used Tournagrip tonight for the first time in about a year and wondered to myself why I didn't play with it last summer. Its obviously not for everyone but if you have sweaty hands and/or live in a humid climate then Tournagrip just cannot be beat....
I hate how short it is and then they charge more for the extended version.
Sorry for resurrecting an old thread but I just dont get it... I have compared Tournagrip with Yonex super grap and in my opinion Tournagrip is far superior in the feel department. Super grap gets all slick and smooth after the first couple hours! It feels like someone who had sun block on his hands touch the racquet handle.
Tournagrip has never given me blisters and the feel is uncomparable... well maybe its just because i dont like the soft pillowy feel of some of those grips out there.
Totally agree. I tried to rip a supergrap off my racket as fast as i could, in this heat and humidity it does nothing, and the little sticky section on the back of the grip where you start wrapping it took a chunk out of my original overgrip with it. POS
I love tournagrip, i much prefer the dry feel over tacky. my coach wrapped my racket with a black Gamma overgrip way back when and it had a similar dry feel to it. I found out Gamma Supersoft Overgrip has a dry feel, but does anyone else know of a dry Gamma overgrip out there?
