Tourna Poly offerings

That one spin guy on YouTube just posted a video about tourna silver 7 tour. Is it really that good? The only tourna polys I’ve hit with are black zone and black 7 and I’ve enjoyed both. I’ve been hearing rumblings about tourna big hitter silver for a long time as being a cheap ALU power substitute as well. Any truth to that? Thanks all

Buddy of mine just strung a full set with silver. He usually plays with a hybrid setup due to shoulder pain with full beds of poly, but he loved silver on the first go around. Believe it was strung at 49-50lbs. Will ask him how tension holds up over time, but for now it appears to be a very good value.

I string a ton of Tourna Big Hitter Silver 17 as crosses in hybrids. I have not strung or used it in a full bed.

In my opinion it holds tension better and is more slick than ALU. However, while the statistics don't indicate this to me it plays deader than ALU. For that reason personally I don't think I would like it in a full bed.

It makes a great cross for gut mains and is cheap. I would give it a shot if that is what you are thinking.

Yes Silver 7 Tour is that good... For sure a big factor is the price as well. plays great for many hours.

I am not familiar with Silver 7 Tour other than what I have read here but it looks like Steve has a good lead on some info.

That thread that @SteveI links to has tons of info, but I will just quickly say that I used this string for a couple of years and absolutely loved it for excellent tension holding, stable playability through 90% of its lifetime, good durability, and very good spin capability. The downsides are that shear breaks happen frequently for those who both swing hard and mis-hit (I'm the poster child of that) and that it is a pretty harsh string when missing the sweetspot, and that as I turned 60 years old, my wrist wanted a softer string in order to play without pain.

17 gauge is a much better string, IMO, than the 16 gauge which is just harsh and doesn't seem to add anything to offset its extra stiffness except for durability.
