Tourna strings - are they actually good?

I've heard good things about the Tourna Silver 7 Tour, but it's suspiciously cheap on a per reel basis so it makes me somewhat dubious about the quality... has anyone tried a few strings and end up settling on a tourna string? Either full bed or a hybrid.

I string quite a bit of the Tourna Big Hitter Silver 7 as a cross to other strings (Not the Tour). It is not bad for this purpose given the price I would say it is more of an old school performing generic type poly.

I am working through my last reel of it and then I want to explore other options around that same price range (maybe a tad more) but that perform way better for this purpose.

The tourna silver7 tour is some of the best I've tried. Best tension maintenance compared to ANY poly. Crisp with big spin. I often try new setups because i like to tinker but on big matches its the Silver7.
Do you just use it on a full bed or have to tried a hybrid too? I'm considering this on the crosses with Gosen OGSM Q8 mains.

If you're hitting hard S7T is in top 5. I string it in mains with Head Lynx Tour in crosses, new Radical Pro with a bit of lead, at 24/23kg, so 1 or 2kg lower than other strings. It is hot summer here. S7T 17 is ~1.23 really, and Lynx Tour 1.25 is ~1.26-1.27. S7T 16 is ~1.27, I have it but haven't tried it yet. When I do try it I'll probably go for 23/22 or even 22/21kg, it has that much control. All S7T is also great but it is too rough for me, very sharp edges. I'd really prefer it to be rounder like Lynx Tour.

S7T is good in every way really, control string but well dampened, no rough sensations. Lower power but that's OK, that's what I need, it really keeps the ball inside the lines. Plays really well the second time also, it notches a bit though, and I've played with it 3 or 4 times last week, and it was still good, but almost dead as you would guess. I kind of wanted to see how it plays until it breaks, but it didn't break and I had a match so I cut it out and strung a fresh one with same strings.

I was comparing it with Head Hawk Rough / Lynx Tour hybrid, excellent as well, but that one broke in ~2h, for the second time already. It seems that Hawk Rough in mains gets quickly eaten/notched by Lynx Tour in crosses, which is a bit unexpected as it is also a fairly stiff string. It's the Musetti combo btw.

Price is OK, and it's a 220m reel, but I have to say that I find most strings wildly overpriced, so 70ish € for a reel is reasonable.

S7T is made in Germany, and I am slightly suspecting it's not rounder because there already is a rounder same string - my suspect is Oehms Alu Pearl Rough, but I haven't tried it yet, they only have reels at the moment it seems.

+1 for Tourna Black Zone - I have used in a full bed and hybrid. I use it because its tension maintenance was better for me than others (e.g. Volkl Cyclone and Solinco Revolution). I also used Tourna Big Red a lot and preferred the feel and tension maintenance of that one to TF Red Code.

Comparing Black Zone and Big Red, I found Black Zone slightly softer and slightly longer tension maintenance - although my testing was far from scientific (not A/B testing side be side, just alternative string jobs and count the hours roughly).

Both Tourna Black and Big Red are decent quality polys with above-average performance in most categories for a great price. In the end, for me price is key so I haven't tried the more expensive Solinco and Luxilon strings.

I use Big Hitter Silver as the cross in a hybrid and couldn’t be happier with performance and quality. The fact that it’s cheap is a good thing.

They are good strings but they performance does not last too long. However i have to say that Big hitter silver 7 tour is quite nice and holds tension well for a while. My favorite is definitely Big hitter black 7 which reminds me of MSV hex soft!
The other Big hitter silver and rough are good cheaper but good alternative to luxilon alu power. I always used the in full bed poly.

What do you use on the mains, out of interest? I'll be using it as a cross too.
Either natural gut or Velocity, depending on season. BHS is a good slick cross. I feel like I get 80% of the performance of Alu Power for like 25% of the cost. Plus better tension maintenance than Alu.

Like others have said, Silver 7 Tour has great tension stability, great control and spin, although it plays a little firm compared to their other offerings. It's not uncomfortable by any means, but it doesn't have much "give" or pocketing to it. Tension lasts longer than Cyclone for me. Cyclone bags out at around 6-8 hours for me. S7T lasted about 8-10 before I break it or want to cut it out. I use the 17G in my Pro Tour 2.0 at 44lb. I used to use Big Hitter Blue and silver in both round and rough. They are all quite comfortable at just about any tension. The down side to those is poor tension maintenance. I'm ready to cut them out by 4-5 hour mark. I am a heavy hitter with good amount of spin. The round BHsilver and blue are great cross strings. I like to give them (Big Hitter silver and blue) a pre-stretch, because the feel changes for me after about 30 minutes, which I prefer. They are great strings for the price. Big Red is a good control string, and I will say it plays similar to TF red code, although, again the tension maintenance isn't quite as good as TF. I know a handful of players who regularly us Babolat RPM Blast, and like to use Big Hitter Black 7 strung a couple lb tighter than their regular tensions when they are trying to same some $$$. Tourna has always had a great savings on their reels.

My experience is that Big hitter silver and blue and much like topspin cyber flash and cyber blue. All 4 strings lose tension quickly. I think if you are looking for that quality of string, pros pro has more value. Or spend just a little more for a better quality string.

I had high hopes for quasi gut (non armour). Was a bit disappointed. It is soft but doesn’t have the pocketing and power of other multi’s

I’ve only tried big hitter blue, and it was ok. Not great but not bad, around medium stiffness.
=> and probably their worst offering.

Julie, the best TW tester ever (I challenge any opposition to that statement, btw) freaking *switched* to TOURNA Grit after their official playtest. I agree with her feels, and have a reel both in 1.20 and 1.30 mm.

I like the original Silver and the Black 7 both, as well, but Grit is special. (I have yet to play the Silver 7 Tour, so I can't comment there.)

Silver 7 tour is pretty great and was my go-to for a while.

Recommend stringing it even lower than you think you want. If you string other poly at 55 i'd string this at like 49.

Low powered but doesn't feel harsh at all.

Unfortunately (more info in the s7t thread) it does seem to shear break somewhat randomly, and worse in cold weather. Longest life I've seen in a string (1.25mm) and best tension maintenance, except sometimes it will break on an off center hit in like an hour.

I used S7T as a full bed at around 45lbs or as a poly with it in the mains and with technifibre ice code in the crosses at 48/46lbs. Uber spin in both scenarios

Agree the BH Blue is one of the worst strings I every played (had to cut is right away)

During the summer I often play a hybrid of BHB7/mains and SP Firestorm/crosses. Nice spin and great feeling.

17 gauge S7T is my string of choice. Over about five reels, so getting to nearly 100 string jobs now, I've had somewhere around 15 shear breaks. It's annoying as hell, but I can't get away from using this string. Excellent tension maintenance, great spin capability, and long lasting playability. It doesn't start feeling dead or losing grip on the ball until about the last hour before it notches through and breaks, which for me is about 12 hours in an 18x19 racquet.

I think 20% have snapped during stringing from the 7 Tour reel I have. But the players like it a lot - as I do! It’s firm so I string it 2 lbs lower than I usually do.

I've tried a number of their strings. Black Zone is a great soft, round poly that works great as a hybrid or full bed. The 18 gauge is great for young players. BHB7 is a softer shaped poly that feels great and creates tremendous spin. S7T is my go-to string. It has great attributes that others have mentioned for a great price. I'm constantly trying other strings and have always gone back to this. It's definitely worth a try!

According to the USRSA, Tourna strings have the 3 of the top 5 spots for Spin. Pretty incredible.
