Training program

Over the summer I have created a training program for myself. It involves all different types of training such as training on different shots, fitness training etc. I have managed to work it all around what my personal life aswell. But I was wondering how much tennis I need to play a week and what types of fitness training do i need to be doing and how much of it. (e.g. 7 hours jogging a week etc.) Any advice would be much appreciated! ;)

It really depends on what you want to achieve, how old you are and what your background with regard to fitness is?

i am 14 yrs old and i want to acheive a suitable level of fitness to play at a moderately high level for my age. I am afraid I am in the UK so I dont know how the ratings in the USA work. I want to acheive a level at which I can maitain a high level of play for a minimum of 3 sets without getting as tired as I do at the moment both physically and mentally :)

i just played a match which i won 6-2 6-4 but towards the last couple of games i started to play a lot slower and lost a lot of easy points due to heat and tiredness. This is the kind of situation i want to improve so that I can maintain a higher level of tennis throughout! ;)

I'm pretty husky (6'0 195, and it's not mostly muscle),and i find that i start to tire mid way thru the second set, but after a game my head seems to get me past the wariness that my body was feeling and i can go well into the third set. Just keep willing yourself thru until you find that "second wind" and concentrate on tennis, not on the pain.

I've recommend intervals. For example, four days of tennis, and two days of conditioning. Then a rest day for Sunday.

Or adapt it, with three days of tennis, a rest, two days of conditioning, and another rest.

The important thing is to make sure you're doing enough conditioning, but ALSO make sure that you're not doing anything that could result in an injury. The rest days between the tennis and conditioning allow your muscles to relax for tennis later on.

What do you think about this schedule for a 14 year old:

2 hours tennis team practice 4 times per week. One hour private practice with coach once per week. 3 days of 1 hour fitness running/stretching etc. and 1 hour gym per week.

your not far off

your doing about 13 hours of training a week right?

general rule of thumb 1 hour training per week for each year of your age.
