Nobody started a thread. Almost two hours since first ball was supposed to be struck. I'm assuming rain?
Two matches were completed yesterday. Benoit is into 2R after rallying to win a paire of sets vs Kec; two injured players entered with only injured lefty Pella surviving while George Joffrey McFly hobbled off to practice some more before USO.

Interesting draw…

some cool potential R32 matches

Zverev-Harris
Rublev-Karatsev
Tsitsipas-Korda
Murray-Hurkacz

honestly all of Zverev/Rublev/Tsits could lose their first matches in this tournament if their opponents come up in form.

today I’ll be watching Fognini-Basil (ball striking in that will be fun) and FAA-Fucsovics (FAA is barely favored in this match)

I'm glad that I decided not to go this year. None of the big three are there, so why bother?? I was really hoping the see Fed there before he retires.

Edit: actually it would have been worth seeing Murray and Nishikori. Those guys are cool. Especially to see Murray play in those goofy hiking boots of his that he always wears. :giggle:

There was a bit of a shift for Fucsovics, he's now +190 on my sportsbook. Put a few more bucks on him.

Are you referring to the ankle shackles Muzziah wears that look as though he has sifted through the props of a prison gang film?

I forgot Novak had dropped out of this one too.

Another wasteland of opportunity for the lil' 3.
Resting with his family prepping for the USO........ Yeah,... you need to be ready Novak.

Medvedev with some familiar foes in his path. RBA a potential R16 opponent – beat Daniil in Miami earlier this year. Then Hurkacz or PCB in the quarters, both of whom beat him in the last month-ish.

In other words, the thoughtest draw of all time.

I was looking for a thread yesterday but too lazy to start one.
But...Kecmanovic losing to Paire. What is going on there?

Felix's grunt still tilts me. Fucsovics giving up his break lead also tilts me.

Can still take this set in the breaker though! Plenty of time for Felix to choke.

In May, I had a hit on court 5 with my son during the highschool tournament. Yesterday, I watched Zverev practiced (with Dan Evans) on that same court twice. I also saw Shapo and Humbert hit on that same court. Lets just say that all of those guys hit the ball just a bit harder than either one of us.

Just tuned in and watched Fritz, then Felix, then finally Harris all get broken in succession lol. Breaks all around.

I thought that Med would skip after winning Toronto, but he's got a practice court booked at 4:30 today so I guess he's in town.
Have you been there and attending Cincinnati for a long while? If so, wasn’t it great when you knew all the top players would be in the draw barring injury? Then the Big 4 all reached commitment exception seniority and started to strategize skipping one of the two mandatory M1Ks. With their earned exemptions from what should still remain mandatory for the younger non-exempt stars, we should get more new winners if the young guys show up. We did see youth prevail the last few years on a number of occasions but they have to be in to win.

Now we have physicians bending over and letting a player like Zedraffe (age 24 and definitely not an exempt player) skip a mandatory tournament beginning on August 9 in Toronto due to “exhaustion” from playing his gold medal match in Tokyo on August 1. It’s no wonder Roddick and Nadal are the only two to run the Canada/Cinci/USO table this millenium. Modern era players are softer than room temperature butter. It’s so much easier to win a M1K now with byes for seeds and no Bo5 final and we still don’t see dominating runs in the summer.

It shouldn’t be Medvedev’s choice to skip this week and I’m glad he manned up and flew in, got his soft era bye and gets to try and defend his “home turf Cinci” title. With a week off in between Cinci and USO he will have plenty of time to recover.

100% agree. I hate the skipping of mandatories.

On another note, just got off work and players are back on the court!

Despite a very poor start where it seemed like he couldn't string together more than three groundstrokes, FAA eventually found his zone and started playing much better and eventually got a good win over Fucsovics.

40-0, then victory. The rain suspension took Diego out of rhythm, as he lost the second set. Nothing comes easy for Diego this year.
Much needed win for Schwartzman, to celebrate his 29th birthday.
It was also José Luis Clerc’s (63) birthday today, who was presenting Diego’s match for the Spanish signal ESPN.
Tomorrow, it will be another’s (retired) tennis Argie player birthday, Guillermo Vilas (69).

What is going on with deMinaur? He’s won two games in his last three sets. Basilashvili was a redlining fool at Toronto and now Krajinovic is doing anything he wants in an opening bagel.

Krajinovic is destroying deMinaur. It is so sad to watch this match being an Aussie and all . Bagel in first (6:0), 1:1 thus far in the second set. Yikes...

Zedraffe has what would normally have been viewed as a cake first match until the past two weeks. Now, having to play Lloyd Harris in a first match since Tokyo Gold is not so straightforward. Evening match on Tuesday. Be there or be square!

Gasquet seems to think he can challenge calls against the challenge system that makes the calls. Now I know why Gasquet never reached the top of the game. He just wasn't ever really paying attention to what was happening.
Gasquet challenging line calls made by a machine? I guess I can understand his fixation on lines after his Miami’09 kissing episode.

What is that now, 10 BPs forced and gone between the two? If this is how the match will unfold we’ll be here until midnight.

Murray has had 8 aces thus far (Gasquet = 0) and still cannot put some distance between himself and Gasquet.

Well, he does now. Just after I said he can't... Huh..
I often find that a little biotching gets results, like waiting a traffic light when it won’t change until you scream at the top of your lungs.

BTW, deMinaur has found himself and took the second set.
