I have 2 Head Youtek MP Speed racquets that are weighted and pretty powerful.- these are basically the father of the Gravity before they had the Gravity and less like today's Speed racquets. I've been stringing them with Tour Bite 19 mains (50lbs) and Gosen OG 18 crosses (53lbs).
The setup works well for the Youtek Speeds - the feel and power are there and it seems like due to the added weight and using the Tour Bites, the spin on say a slicing backhand is nasty - it just kicks the ball off the side of the court.
Those are my older racquets. For about 2 years, I switched to the newer Head Speed MP. (different stringing) And for the last 3 years, I've been using the Gravity Pros - same stringing as the Youteks but I guess due to less weight, the kick from the slice is far less dramatic.
I like the Gravity, but I feel like recently switching back to my Speeds (the newer ones, not the Youtek) because they are lighter and I can get my wrist to turn faster and just manage them a bit better. Their weight is quite a lot less than the Gravity but I've added some lead tape. This may prove to be a bad decision against stronger hitters but we'll see.
So after all that, I want to restring the newer Speed racquets. I could go with the same Tour Bite/OG setup as before but I don't think the kick/spin will be there because the racquets are lighter. I was thinking of keeping the OGs but switching to the Tru Pro Firewire. I've never tried them. What are your thoughts on generating spin from a lighter racquet?
