TRU PRO

I tried an experiment the other day of ghost wire 1.22 mains at 50 and some multi crosses at 47. I didn’t hate it at all, I thought I was going to have a rocket launcher in my hands as everyone says GW is powerful. Spin wasn’t as prominent as I like but everything else worked well. Comfort was top notch. In short GW worked well as a main for me and I probably didn’t need to tension up to 50 from 46. YMMV

I like Tier One 17g Triump mains and 19g GW crosses. Very comfy and responsive for short-game doubles tactics. It is taking forever for me to break the multi mains in this setup.

I recently ordered some Tier One strings (BK is my favorite) and was happy and surprised at the same time to receive a free set of Tour Status. I thought it was a new string but apparently not!
Here are my thoughts after a 2 hours hitting session. It was strung at 48 lbs on my Prince Beast 98. For comparison, that's my go-to tension and racquet.
From the first stroke, it seemed to me a bit crisper than BK, and I was afraid it would be uncomfortable. It was nothing major, and that feeling disappeared after 30 minutes (maybe I was just more focused on the game and less on the string).
I would rate power as intermediate, not far from a string like Cyclone.
I was not totally convinced by the feel, which let me with less confidence than BK. It was not mushy at all, but I felt less connected than with BK, for lack of good reason.
The string shined in the spin dept and I could easily generate loads of topspin.
About control... Well, that kind of string provides good control, right? It was likely me and not the string, but I made a lot of unforced errors (more than usual), especially on attacking FH. During all the session, my accuracy was rather low, but again it is likely me rather than the string that is to blame.
In all, my first impression is that it is a solid string, maybe a tad stiffer than what I'm looking for, middle of the road in terms of power and offering great access to topsin. Add to this the sustained durability/playability reported by others and Tour Status maybe a winner for many players. We will see how it goes after hitting a bit more with Tour Status, but BK will likely remain my string of choice.
Tier one has become my favorite string brand and I make them a good publicity around me :)

Hello, if anyone using Ghost Wire 1.22 full bed and hybrid Black knight 1.23 / Ghost Wire 1.22. How long it will last for you?Im playing with Head Speed Pro 2022 (18x20) and both string setups go dead after 5-6 hours.

What tension are you using? I routinely got around 20 hours out of BK in a full bed at 47/45

Question for Tier One or Tier One players:

I recently had my Speed 360+ MP strung with FireWire Boost 16G at 50lbs. Some of the things I like:

-arm comfort feels great
-Spin, particularly on my backhand slice and serve is incredible. Plenty of top spin too but I already play with a lot of top spin.
-I’m really surprised at how wel they are holding tension. I probably should have string them between 45-48 because 50feels too tight to me.

The biggest issue I am having thus far is some unpredictability in launch angle and depth. My gut tells me that they might just be a tad too high powered for my swing. However, I’m also not sure if it’s the FireWire, ghost wire or combination that is causing that.

If I wanted to go with a less powerful, more control oriented Tier One string, would Black Knight be the right pick? Also, I wanted to try the Ghostwire to soften up the bed and be easier in my arm. But if I hybrid BK with GW, will I get similar launch angle issuesas I’m having with FWB?

For reference, I really enjoyed the launch angle and control of Head Sonic Pro. I’d imagine it was playing around 40-42lbs tension when I really liked the feel. However, Sonic Pro was putting a beating on my arm and no way could I have stuck with that string. Sonic Pro was a full bed too.

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

T1 Black Knight 1.23. Great string for 4.5+ players. If Sonic Pro was tough on your arm may not want to play with BK.

I'm sure @TierOneSportsOfficial will have more info for us very soon!

For others, I started the T1 test string thread here:

Tier one lovers, I just tried full bed GW 1.23 and I really liked it in many departments and much better than velocity fb, but it seems still too stiff for my arm (elbow issues) in Wilson blade v8. I thought trying it in 1.18 FB instead or with a multi in the mains that still provides good spin potential. Have thought x-natural or velocity in 1.30 with GW 1.23. Black Knight mains would be my dream but for sure too stiff :(

@tobi9008 - Your answer my man is IsoSpeed Cream. It's elastomer (rubber) based, and noticeable softer per gauge than Ghostwire, yet almost as low-powered and maintains tension almost as well. Try it full bed, or use it as a cross to Velocity or Multifeel mains.

You sure its softer than GW?

Thanks man! I will try both as a cross to velocity 16g then, still have half a reel anyway. Would ghostwire 1.18. cross saw through velocity mains quicker than 1.23 or 1.27? As cross don't break so easily I could imagine using 1.18 is better because softer.
Cream anyway only one gauge available here in Germany it seems.

Is poly tour air as good as a cross as those other 2?
Any advantage of using multifeel over velocity as mains?

Yes, gauge-per-gauge, I think so, based both on real life play and on USRSA stiffness numbers. Note: Per the * - the Cream 16L stiffness rating has to be a measurement error, per @g4driver's observations and countless others.

Note Cream is available in 1.23 mm and 1.28 mm not the gauges list in the chart @Trip posted.

@Trip those numbers are USRSA's correct ?

The measurement for 130 Rough seems like yet another anomaly... They really need to get a handle on their methodology, and/or their error-checking.

I am really liking the Yonex (YPTA ) strings as my crosses with the Tecnifibre HDMX mains. Thanks for the information suggesting this combo. Not sure what the HDMX stiffness rating it.

Anyone can comment on comfort Tour Status 1.25 vs BK 1.23?Tour status is firmer?

TS is significantly stiffer/firmer. I hit with it in my Gpro last week and noticed this immediately.
TS in the GPro is my jam. It's such a nice combination of crisp string with a softer frame. I love it.

Agree
For me BK is better in all aspects although TS is not bad
I think it's racquet-dependent. BK in a muted frame would likely be too muted. But in a crisper frame, it could balance/complement very nicely.

As I mentioned above, TS is great in the GPro because it's the balance of crisp string in a softer frame. I couldn't imagine putting BK in my GPro because there would be a loss of feel.

Strung up my Ultra Tour with Strike Force RIP and played with it tonight.
Nice string so far, went with 48lbs, do feel like it lacks a little control but does seem to grab the ball well, nice bite.

This string does move alot, it actually didn't even come off the stringer straight, doesn't bother me, just an observation.

Is it discount-code based? I may ask a friend who's in the US atm to help purchase a reel if so... what prices are we talking for a BK reel?

$99 for 16-18G
$65 for 15G

No code

Ah really. It’s still a bit more expensive than what is (still) available w/o discount here in the U.K. then!
Tempted to stock up in case price rises…

Has anyone here tried Triumph mains crossed with Black Knight? Given my longstanding battle with golfer's elbow, I'm always looking for a hybrid alternative that I like (nearly) as much as full bed of BK. I'm also stringing my own rackets so durability isn't as big of a determining factor as long as I get at least 5-6 hours out of a set up. I've previously tried BK mains / GW crosses before and ultimately preferred a full bed of BK. I've also tried Cream and YPTA as crosses too but didn't like it nearly as much either as full bed BK.

There is no logic in combining a multi with a shaped poly like BK. It will snap very quickly. If you want to go for a cross poly, you will use a round one, like GW.

Thanks, that was what I was wondering about. I know BK isn’t super shaped in terms of polys but it’s certainly not a round poly either.

Hey all,

Out of all the available Tier One strings
Which is closest to Volkl Cyclone Tour.

I am currently testing out a few set ups. And trying to find which suits me most.

So far, I gel with Firewire Mains / GW Crosses

Currently testing BK mains / GW Crosses

All in 17 Guage but planning to go thinner strings

Anyone with experience with Strike Force RIP?

Strung it up a few days ago at 48lbs and it already feels erratic and lacking control. I'm ready to cut it out.

Does it lose tension super quick or are these just its characteristics? Did I string it too loose?

Those are its characteristics, it’s a very soft poly almost on the stiffer multi or syn gut side of soft.
