Trying a hybrid, need a tension recommendation

I've got a Volkl V1 Classic MP. Currently it's strung with NRG2 at 62 pounds on a lockout machine. I strung two sticks up with NRG2 17g, one at 57, one at 62, liked the 62 better. But if I was doing it again, would probably drop it to 60.

So I'm going to try two different hybrid setups. Both will have Pacific Gut Classic in the mains, one will have Weisscannon B5E in the crosses, the other will have MSV Co-Focus.

I'd really appreciate suggestions on how to set this up. I've read that one should string the poly crosses in such a hybrid 3 pounds lower, not entirely sure why.

I guess the first question is if I like NRG2 at 60 pounds, should I string the gut up at more or less than that? Then once the gut tension is determined, where do I dial in the poly crosses?

thanks.

Well, I guess I would say something like 59/56.

The reason you string your crosses lower is that:
You use gut mains poly crosses to give the gut mains a slick surface to slide along. This aids in creating a lower friction setup, which helps create more spin. You string the crosses looser to lessen the friction even more and help in spin production.

Hope this helps.

If you were going full gut I would suggest bringing up the tension to 62-63.

However putting a poly cross with tame the gut considerably. I would say 60/56 - pretty much the same suggestion as above poster.

BTW I'm enjoying B5E right now in the mains with a multi cross. However, I still have a few packages of VS gut and will probably try your setup shortly.

B5E/MCS is pretty good but B5E/Genesis Thunder Blast is still much better. Looking forward to hearing about gut crosses.

thanks guys.

is the rule of thumb to string the poly cross 3-4 pounds lower than the mains?

I always do 4 pounds.
