Tsitsipas stirring post-match Soliloquy on Instagram

I've no problem with people who like philosophy and anyone who expresses themselves in an unconventionally poetic and thoughtful way in general. I think most people appreciate and even admire such qualities in others. However, Tsitsipas' post is just oozing pretentiousness! It's a mesh of pretty words but there's not really any meaning behind them.

He felt the aura of true competition for the first time, and this loss was a new emotional experience for him - alright, this could be indeed how he felt after such a match. But "destiny was drawn", "physical and mental suffering", and he learned "living life" from this match? Seriously? How can anyone read this and not see that it is completely over the top?
Comparing Tsitsipas' behaviour on court, and then this whole different side of him on social media and in interviews, it seems to me that Stefanos is a poser.

Is this a joke? He just took a three-time slam winner (and former RG champion) to the brink after 5 hours today in by far the best match of 2019. He showed true heart and class, as well as stamina and guts. Stan is no clown on this surface. The Greek has plenty of talent. He also defeated the two-time defending AO champion (and GOAT) in January. Yet you think he "doesn't have the skills?"

Rofl. What are you talking about? Didn't have the skills? Doesn't have the talent? He's one of the, if not the most talented youngster in this era. And he's only going to get better. He's gonna win a GS latest by next year. I'm so sure of this.

Please let's keep things in perspective. What has TsiTsiPas done exactly?
He beat a sub-par Fed but then got tamed by Nadal at the AO. He lost to freaking old-fat-waaay-past-his-prime, Wawrinka -by choking horribly. He did not even make the QF in the F.O.
How does all that extrapolate to him winning slams or being the next big thing? Look at players such as Nadal, Pete etc. Even when they were young they had the game and mental strength.

TsiTsiPas chokes on big points. His off-forehand goes haywire under any signs of pressure. He can't volley to save his life. His backhand is fairly pedestrian. His serve is not as good as it should be given his height.
What exactly does he have that makes people think he will get multiple slams? The fact that he blabbers a lot on social media?
He won't be #1 or win multiple slams until Fedalovic are around. I'd actually rate Zverev higher as well.
TTW does have the most extreme reactions on new players and then nothing really happens.

Dude, yesterday was a very high quality match. High percentages on first serve for both, 16 aces (on clay!) for Stan and 60 plus winners by both with significantly fewer UEs. Zverev would have been obliterated by Stan playing at that level.

I see what you're saying here. I also think it's important to remember for some people, competition brings out the worst side of themselves. I saw it all the time growing up playing basketball somewhat seriously. Lot of mild mannered quiet dues that would turn into absolute tools on the court. Competition brings out the best but also the worst in people. Tsitispas is only 20 so we'll have to see how he grows from here.

Do agree some of his on-court mannerisms are why I've been lukewarm at best toward him thus far.

i think that is why I sometimes i have a hard time wrapping my mind around him. I don't believe that a person has to fit in one box and he can do his own thing, but I feel like people are trying to make him this ultra unique, enlightened person when that isn't the case. imo he is not at all that different from his peers. Sure he vlogs and stuff and maybe handles losses more maturely, but he also can be bratty on court, can be upset when he misses shot, which by the way are okay things because that is the nature of sports but i dont think there is anything deeper to him, atleast not more so than anyone else.. Also he does post quotes/sayings that aren't even his and then doesn't know what they mean but tweets it b/c it sounds cool.

I mean bless stan, but what in the world does " he makes our sport real and pragmatic " mean, i get he was trying to pay him a compliment but if i read that I'd be like......huh? I think there was something he posted on twitter which was a direct quote inspired by stan which was sweet. i think its what stan has as a tattoo and it was straight to the point while also directly referencing stan. This.....idek. its word vomit.

Also i should stress even his hippy pretentious quotes doesn't mean he should be scrutinized i just think its funny when people attribute certain personality traits to him that are exaggerated.

And there's implementation of fed's game also, What was his break point conversion ratio again??
My friend, I watched the whole match live, was rooting for stefanos, but I was literally shocked how unclutch he was on key points...
I dare to say, if wawrinka didn't overhit that FH on set point in 2nd set, tsitsipas could've lost in straight sets..
I even dare to say, if stefanod could've hold his s**t together on some of the key points, he could've won in 4 sets or even straight sets
I think Tsits thought he was going to win this match going in and well into the match. He was a bit over aggressive in the first set and should have won that. By the end of the match a lot of the credit has to go to Wawrinka whose serve was on fire for much of the match with 16 aces.

The real mistake for Tsitsipas is just playing a bit too much coming into RG and not realizing his chances on this surface (professes to not like clay lol). Playing ever week from Monte Carlo through Rome was just way too much:
20 / 2019 Rome Masters
SF Clay Rafael Nadal Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-3 6-4 H2H
QF Clay Stefanos Tsitsipas Roger Federer w/o H2H
R16 Clay Stefanos Tsitsipas Fabio Fognini 6-4 6-3 H2H
R32 Clay Stefanos Tsitsipas Jannik Sinner 6-3 6-2 H2H
19 / 2019 Madrid Masters
F Clay Novak Djokovic Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-3 6-4 H2H
SF Clay Stefanos Tsitsipas Rafael Nadal 6-4 2-6 6-3 H2H
QF Clay Stefanos Tsitsipas Alexander Zverev 7-5 3-6 6-2 H2H
R16 Clay Stefanos Tsitsipas Fernando Verdasco 6-3 6-4 H2H
R32 Clay Stefanos Tsitsipas Adrian Mannarino 6-2 7-5 H2H
R64 Clay Stefanos Tsitsipas Upcoming H2H
18 / 2019 Estoril
F Clay Stefanos Tsitsipas Pablo Cuevas 6-3 7-6(4) H2H
SF Clay Stefanos Tsitsipas David Goffin 3-6 6-4 6-4 H2H
QF Clay Stefanos Tsitsipas Joao Domingues 7-6(3) 6-4 H2H
R16 Clay Stefanos Tsitsipas Guido Andreozzi 6-3 6-4 H2H
17 / 2019 Barcelona
R16 Clay Jan-Lennard Struff Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-4 3-6 6-2 H2H
R32 Clay Stefanos Tsitsipas Marton Fucsovics 6-3 6-4 H2H
16 / 2019 Monte Carlo Masters
R16 Clay Daniil Medvedev Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-2 1-6 6-4 H2H
R32 Clay Stefanos Tsitsipas Mikhail Kukushkin 6-3 7-5 H2H

Not a bad loss for the season given Struff made R16 at RG. Probably with a little better draw at RG he could have easily made SF.

Has a good shot to get top 4 seed at Wimbledon if Zverev does not do too well at RG.

Wow. Great post and comment. Thanks for sharing.
Sadly, if only TsiTsipas had as much talent in tennis as he has in these posts.

He looks like a great kid. But unfortunately doesn't seem to have the skills to become a future world #1 and multi slam winner.
He could be a solid top 10'er and make a lot of money though..
Rip Van Winkle, he's like 5 in the live rankings and 4 in the race.

Life was better in the 80s with ZERO social media and you lost 5 setters with grace and only your closest friends and fans would feel you, and then they'd tell their friends, and the legend would grow.. rock n roll agassi style

Everybody who had a good childhood says this about their childhood years to be fair. It's more nostalgia I've found. Not about anything particularly great happening in whatever decade.

Waiting for 90s kids to reminisce fondly about Britney Spears who was so awesome she could never perform at all without pre-recorded tracks. It's gonna happen, if it hasn't already.

Tsitsipas's comment was corny, but there is nothing more "cringe" than clowns who use "cringe" as though it's a noun, or think "cringy" is an actual word. Reddit is the scourge of the internet.
I cringe at **** like "cringe", "salt", and kids saying "that was so lit," but this was cringey imo. The thing is, he really didn't need to say anything at all. Maybe not all of us have been at that level of competition, but we can have some idea of what it must have felt like.

A picture can say a thousand words, and the picture alone says more than anything Stef could come up with.

You know most people and most tennis players are obnoxious at 20, most grow out of it. Tsitsipas is far less obnoxious at his age than most.

But why shouldn't he? Actually, I like that he went out on a limb knowing that he will get trolled for this by some on social media/TTW and still said it and verbalised his emotions. He has got perspective and he knows our opinions on how he looks, how he behaves really don't matter. I am not even a big fan of him or anything, won't be until he wins something big to back up his words, but I already like the fact that he doesn't feel any pressure to act cool and hip like many in his age group. He is on his own journey.

Right? And the Spice Girls didn't lip sync at all.

Seriously though, the 90's is my favourite decade, but yes, overrating is almost entirely to do with nostalgia and being a carefree kid. I've come to that conclusion in the last 10 years or so. Overall I'm liking my 20's just as much as a liked being a kid, just for different reasons.

Er, my frame of reference (or rather in opposition to Britney) was something like Radiohead or Alice in Chains, so forgive me if I am sometimes like that Simon Pegg character from How to lose friends and alienate people.

And I agree with your second para. I did NOT have a carefree childhood as I was suffering from asthma and having to live in an environment that aggravated it. Further, having to put up with mediocre and authoritarian teachers who disliked me just for questioning and standing up to them when I was in every other way (and without any immodesty) a really good student. So I can see nostalgia for exactly what it is. My happiest days are and always have been in the present. Life gets better as I get older. No looking back and lamenting for me.

My thoughts on this are pretty simple, (as my thoughts usually are) :D I'm not at all philosophical or religious or anything of the sort so I don't particularly like long spiels like this one, but if that's Tsitsipas's thing then good for him. He should be his own person.

Yeah....the saying "you do you" comes to mind, but that still doesn't stop me from feeling it's cringey.

The other thing that comes to mind is White Goodman from Dodgeball saying "ooh so now he's a philosiphizer."

Nobody in the 90s ever thought Britney or the boy bands were actually good.
Oh I knew many who did, especially boy bands.. Didn't one of them recently release an album that shot up the charts like nothing had changed? Bet there are plenty who STILL like them. And good for them, their choice.

Edit: I checked and indeed Backstreet Boys' latest, DNA, released in Feb and hit the Billboard no. 1.

Oh yes, I am mostly an alt rock-rock guy myself. I only use the Spice Girls as a similarity to Britney. Much of my favourite music comes from the 80's though. GNR, Metallica, Motley Crue, etc.....

I had a nice childhood, but like I said, I'm liking my 20's just as much if not more. The only difference is the reasons.

Both of us like music from the decades before we were born then? Funny how that happens sometimes. I'm pretty diverse with music though. The only genres I don't like at all are the current mainstream stuff (99% of it) and most rap songs.

Past that I could probably pick a favourite band or two from every decade since and including the 70's. The Eagles being my frame of reference for the 70's.

No one is making you read them. I think its refreshing to have a thinker rather than someone reciting the same platitudes.

Yeah, like because I am not nostalgic doesn't mean I am not interested in cultural products from earlier eras. And yeah, similarly I could pick a favourite artist from every decade starting from at least the 50s too, coming up to the present. And from a variety of genres, be it jazz, rock, metal, funk/R&B/soul etc. Even hip hop in small doses.
