TTW FAQ: READ BEFORE POSTING! (Sigs, Avatars, Pictures, etc!)

Trolling?

Stupid question time: What is trolling? What make someone a Troll?
Please don't say it's someone who asks stupid questions.

Why can't I post attachments.

If you're talking about photos - open an account on photobucket or something similar, download the photo onto that website, and copy/paste the image link onto your post.

If it's any other attachment, I don't think it's allowed.

To post a poll, create a thread as you normally would. Then, enter the thread and click on 'Thread Tools' which is on the bar directly above the post. Select 'Add a Poll to This Thread' - it will walk you through it.

Still looking for info on how to request a screen name or username change, Id rather not open a new account.

I searched a few times and this thread came up and I read all 3 pages but must have missed something,

Thanks

and Happy Holidays! :)

User name changes requests are not generally honored unless there is a significant reason for doing so (for instance, if you registered a long time ago, when the board was much smaller, and used your full, real name, and now that the board is larger, you want to change it due to privacy reasons). Since your account is relatively young, chances are you're going to have to re-register.

Thanks but who would I put the request in to, I think its a fair request. My Current username was made before I started stringing and now I would like it to be something stringing related

What exactly does "flaming" mean? Does it mean there is a chance someone will take offence to something? I don't quite understand.

It is personal attacks or insults directed at another poster, bullying. We're supposed to, in theory, discuss things in a civil manner. Doesn't always happen that way, but that's the idea ;) We can make fun of players, but things that are really offensive (racist, misogynist, homophobic, etc,) aren't supposed to happen. Mods can't catch everything all the time though.

Look up the definition in the dictionary... Einstein.

The above is an example of flaming. :D

Thanks both for the replies. :)

Q: There's a poster who I simply can't stand. How do I ignore them?
A: Ignoring users is simple, but there are some caveats. All posts made by that user will now be invisible, but quoted posts from that user will still appear. To ignore, click the user's name --> Add user to ignore list. Or you may manage your Ignored users through your Profile Page.

I happen to think this policy is unnecessary and overall the drawbacks outweigh the advantages. More than that, it becomes a real problem if one of the ignored users starts a thread. Provoking users still can make a decent/useful topic once in a while. (i.e. A general tournament thread. Or being a total fanboy in one section but behaving like a reasonable user in another section of the forum) Posts other user will contribute in the said thread are no less valuable than usual just because of a thread starter's name. Now with the new policy you can't be aware that those threads exist at all and consequently lose accessibility to them completely, unless you're logged out, which creates a whole new array of inconvenience. If a user can't resist clicking view post anyway button it's their issue, let them deal with the result of their action. Please, have a rethink.

This isn't actually a policy, this is simply a feature of the message board. It's up to the user's discretion whether or not they decide the signal to noise ratio is too low and if they want to completely ignore the offending user's posts. Some people can take the "mature" route and filter and decide on a post-by-post basis whether or not a topic/post has value, others have decided a user is here on the boards with the sole purpose of trolling. It's up to the user to decide whether or not to ignore - if the feature bothers you, simply don't use it!

There's the full time TW Staff account, which is multiple people behind one screen name. But as far as volunteer/non-TW Staff moderators, yes. I'm an "adjunct mod" these days since I have much, much less time to dedicate to hanging out on the TTW boards than I used to. I pop in pretty frequently still, but there are stretches of time where I'm pretty unavailable. Things have changed a lot since... 12 years ago?

You seem to have quite a good job behind the scenes. So how do you get in contact with TW Staff moderators?

You can e-mail me directly @gmail.com, or click my name then click "Start a Conversation." If it's a general issue, or a specific post, you can report (as usual/before) and we all see it unless the "ticket" is filed as closed.

I have noticed that threads mysteriously vanish. Typically they involve WTA players, for example, complaints about screeching or threads assessing the looks of players. I see nothing in the guidelines to prohibit such threads.

Perhaps you should amend the guidelines to reflect that all threads must adhere to a hypersensitive PC standard. It's annoying to waste time on a thread that vanishes with no explanation.

I checked with TW Staff on your question. They will consider updating their policies but some of this stuff falls into the "trolling" category and thus is deleted.

I am somewhat upset. I've posted on this forum for more than a year and a half. I have more than 500 posts...and yet, I still don't get editing capabilities. Perhaps I am looking in the wrong place? I'm guessing that it is my mistake. I posted a question to mods the other day, to no avail. I hope it is simply that it is a long weekend and that I will get a response soon.

Thank you for your help.

You should see an Edit button at the top of each post you make just to the right of your username and time of posting in light gray.

Yeah it's a bummer. I started using the ignore feature on this site and others for the first time the past few weeks.
It's made the board(s) much more enjoyable in a lot of ways. Unfortunately, someone I ignore must start most of the tournament threads because they've vanished for me.

Obviously I'm intrigued as to who you want to ignore?
I find it an odd concept: some posters use the "you're on my ignore list" as if it's a weapon when really it's a blessing.
Personally I've never put any one on ignore because I feel it's a form of being bullied and allowing the bully free reign. Just my take. But if you feel happier avoiding said poster, then that's good too - whatever works for you.
Good luck

I ignore people whose posts have no value, i.e. expressing happiness about a player being injured. Not necessarily people I interact with. I find it ups the chances of me coming across interesting posts/threads.

How do you report someone who slams anyone who suggests a certain player won't win every single match?

I understand the ebb and flow and that everyone has a different style, but this person is over the top and is trolling anyone who says that a certain player "might" not win a match. It can crimp normal discussion on the forums.

I'm actually kind of worried about him and his mental state. Sorry to say that. I'm guessing that he (she?) is dependent emotionally on Fed winning every match.

Thank you.
