There are five players who went from pre-qualifying all the way to the main draw.

Marko Miladinovic, Baylor

Who do you are making a run in the main draw? Who’s the fav to win it?

Ah it’s that time of year. I always liked that tournament and the facility at Tulsa.

Yeah it’s always a great tournament. I like the nationwide aspect of it and the possibility of players going up against anyone.

Admittedly I am a little hazy in how it works or changes this year with the NCAA championships also being in fall.

Major disappointment. There's been an unprecedented number of withdrawals at this tournament both in the main draw and consolation. It lessens its importance in the minds of fans. Yesterday Vives withdrew after beating pre-tournament favorite Zheng. So Tarvet is the winner w/o playing the semi or the final.

This seems to be the unintended consequence of holding the NCAA singles & doubles championships late fall. Heck, maybe they knew this would happen (of the course coaches don't admit or say they would pull a qualified player at the ITA's when voting on the fall concept) and ran with the idea anyways.

Other than making the quarterfinals, how do freshman make the tournament? I'm unclear of the qualification standards for the tournament, but it's clear the ITA Fall Championships suffered with players withdrawing to work the system.

Good point. Hadn’t thought of that. Poor frosh…wasted year.

If the rules around qualifying for the NCAA's aren't favorable for top freshmen to make the draw other than making the final 8 of the AA's, I could see more of them skipping the fall semester and starting in the spring. Might be a reason for a freshmen who did not play the individuals in the fall, to come back Fall of 2nd year. I could also see a kid winning NCAA's in the fall and turning pro and leaving college tennis behind.

We all know that fall play is individual based. Some teams play split squads in the fall playing two different events on the same weekend. What's next, match dodging allegations? LOL

The scenarios are all over the map and just dumb to separate the team and individuals to two different semesters.

With you on this. Hope it’s just a one year experiment and they scrap it.

Watching NB progress in the pros this fall makes me think he's not coming back just for the dual season. He's close to making the NextGen Finals, for the most part that's a higher level of play than the NCAA's. Playing for the team championship sound like the "right thing to say", but let's be real, at NB's current level, it's an individual game. Why go back? Wouldn't surprise me if he's taking college courses online anyways.

Separating the team and individual championships to two different semesters just dilutes the overall importance of each season.

Indeed it's an individual game for him. There's really very low probability he'll return to the Farm. And if he did, how would it benefit his game considering he's quite a bit ahead of the competition? Not happening.
