I signed up for that tourney yesterday and saw his name as well. I hope I get to play him just to report back what it's like. Maybe in the second round though so I can at least win one round.

Had a scare with all the rain that I might not be able to finish the tournament out before our flight, but I ended up winning the tournament! Will write an update for the TW blog tonight

Tony shoud be opening a pastry shop with all the bagels and breadsticks he posted.
Quick question was the #2 seed David Martin the lefty who had played at Stanford? Sounds like the player who beat him would have been a good test in finals

Wish I knew you were near my hood. I would have come out to watch. One of the guys you beat 0 and 1 is an instructor at a tennis clinic I took this winter. IMHO - He was solid to my 4.0 eyes, but looks like he didn't even make you break a sweat. LOL!

Thanks guys, really appreciate the support here! Im about to write a blog about the whole thing so youll be able to see that within the next couple days likely.

This was a different David Martin actually, the one youre referring to I know of since he was at the US Open Nationals when I was there the summer before last, and is an excellent player. I did not see this tournament's #2 seed but saw he had a close match with Nelson, and Nelson probably would have been my opponent in the finals but he had to leave.

Landon actually is very solid, he plays a very consistent style of game. I thought I saw that he played D1 tennis at George Mason and has had some pretty good results in open events and some futures qualifying. His style just played into my hands though and I was able to be very aggressive. I think Townes (my QF opponent) was the best out there, with Nelson perhaps the next best.

If that was L.S. he was clearly a (very) strong 5.0 back in 2006 when I was playing at the same facility and (on occasion) team.

And also up his sponsorship to help him play more
futures tournaments. He has clearly proven to be
ready for higher level competition -- doing better in the
open tournaments than the other players TW has posted
about sponsoring for futures.

Not sure how he could be playing any more than he is, seeing as he's played the last few weekends and is traveling to San Diego for the National Open next and is a working tennis coach. ;) Also, and Tony can probably speak about this better than me, but he is working to get his ranking and points up so he can get into the ITFs and Futures instead of being an alternate on a long list of players trying to break into a tournament.

We sponsor our players with apparel and equipment, they are in charge of making their schedule, choosing their tournaments, and making their travel arrangements.

Quite a few good players in National Open Hardcourt, Tony definitely should have been seeded. Sort of a mixed bag a levels from what I see. What a fantastic place to play tennis in San Diego and Balboa park. Perfect climate. Good luck Tony.

I stand corrected, Tony is seeded #9 after viewing the draw. He has a great chance to win this tourney if he plays well. I would love to be playing this week just too busy to make the trip.

Late 20's still playing Open tournaments. Tony won't even make a 250 tournament unless they give him a WC. It is a shame because he does hit a great ball. There are too many players out there playing ITF Challengers that are just over 100 in the world.

Its harder to get into a 250 than a slam.

Winning tourneys like this will move him to the top of the list behind ATP ranked players in futures qually draws. Then its time to get that first point and begin the ascent!

Good luck Tony and let me know if you come up towards Santa Barbara.

Anybody with knowledge of the other players in the draw think Tony has a shot to win it? (I have no idea)
