TW Colorado - Big Hit

How many Coloradan TT-ers want to get together for a hit?

Last year the Croats did it. Last week the Miami-area TT-ers had a great hit. Let's see if we can do the same.

I'm willing to meet up in the Springs ... or in the Denver metro area. We'll work out the Where and When based on who joins us.

Who's IN?

Good luck you guys! Wish I could be there to meet all of you. Hope you have as much fun as we did in Miami. Make sure to to take pics and post them.

Masamusou and Venetian are in the two major metro areas of this great state. I get to both cities with work to know I can get to either of you ... or to Castle Rock, if you want to pick courts somewhat central to us all. (There's only ONE set of courts worth playing on in CR; their newest High School has
some very nice courts....)

I know we have more Coloradans. A guy from Aurora e-mailed me last year. Let's give this thread a few more days to see who else notices....

I may be moving for 4 or 6 months to Colorado on November. I'll let you know
I'm applying for a work exchange in the States, and Colorado is one of the states they're locating you (along with Minnesota, Utah, California, New York and Pennsylvania)

Are girls welcome? If so, I'd probably be in, depending on the day. I work Sundays, so it'd have to be a Saturday

Please keep us posted, Andres. There's still one month of outdoor tennis left once November arrives. (More if you go to a Western Slope town.)

If you're a skier and you know what part of the state you'll be in early enough ... you should buy some sort of Ski Pass online before the end of September. You'll love it...!

LOL! No, I'm not a skiier myself! I had some fun skiing, but also many, many accidents! lol

But the main jobs on this work exchange is on skii resorts, so Colorado is usually one of the main locations. So, I'll keep you posted if I go to Colorado, where they're locating me, and where I'm working. So come skiing and visit me at work! :D

Count me in guys. I would prefer anywhere in the Denver area. Castle Rock would be fine. It is central to Denver and Colorado Springs. I think I would bring a friend or two if we get a date planned in at least two weeks in advance.

Oscar and Cro Sen - What ARE you two talking about? I'm pretty sure you're not discussing Colorado tennis....

Okay, so far we have ...

Masamusou
Venetian
Arafel
ffrpg (and friends?)
Kaptain Karl (and I can probably get some other folks to join us if needed ... but I'm holding out for TT-ers right now....)

Did I miss anyone? Is Arafel the only female? (And does that matter to anyone?)

I live in Berthoud...

...but being a ski racer in the winter, I don't have a problem with driving to wherever for tennis...my Head 6-pack bag is a permanent resident of the back seat of my Subaru Outback...also, any time is fine (I am semi-retired, or about to become so, and I no longer care...whoops, let's not go there today)...

I just heard about this -I'd definitely be interested. My e-mail is: pleeper101@yahoo.com I live near downtown Denver, but wouldn't mind the drive to the Springs or the Fort if we were to meet during the weekend. Let me know -thanks :D

So, are we doing this or not? I'm pretty crazy until the end of May if it is on a weekend. Maybe we could do it Memorial Day?

... one more and we've got two courts of dubs. Who's missing?

Are Saturdays better? Sundays? Let's see if we can pick between those two days and choose either of the next two weekends.....

(I'd prefer Saturday and I'm flexible either weekend.)

Not sure. Usually I have to work on Saturdays, either morning to afternoon or noon to night but I don't know my schedule for the next two weekends yet. Tough for me to hit before work, and after work usually doesn't go so well (as a few other people could tell you). Whichever day works better for other people I'll try to manage my schedule around to make something work.

KK - please add me as a definite maybe, depending on the day/location you choose. If it's on a weekend AND I don't have a conflicting USTA/club match AND I can convince my better half that the lawn will get mowed I'd love to join in :p

FWIW, the afternoon of May 12 would probably work best for me. I have a match in the morning that ends at 11:30 here in the Springs, so if you decide on playing somewhere in Denver I could probably make it up there by about 2 p.m. or so ... gotta factor in time for lunch, of course ;)

Normally I have Saturdays off, so it wouldn't be a big deal. But the store I'm manager of is having a huge sale this weekend so I have to work, and the following weekend my other manager has a badminton tournament and I promised to cover for him, so that's out. I might be able to change for Sunday the 20th, otherwise, Memorial Day is my first open day. (The Saturday before Memorial day I've got family plans.)

I'm a shift worker so I have different days off during the week. Once we decide on a day I can most likely just take off for it.

Colorado TW Players - If I take Memorial Day (Monday) for tennis ... I'll have to move-in with one of you that day. (My wife will divorce me ... or worse.)

Arafel, I cannot do it Sunday 5-20. Guys, Arafel's schedule makes it look like June 2 should be our target. Does that give everyone enough planning / scheduling time?

With penpal we are EIGHT! It would be really cool if all eight could coordinate and play a Dubs RR, then Singles for any who want.

Location Possibilities -- let me know your other suggestions:

Castle Rock -- there are four new courts at one of their High Schools (Ten minutes west of the Outlet Mall)

Redstone Park in Highlands Ranch has eight courts for which non-residents are charged a whopping $6 per hour. We can actually make reservations for those courts (near C-470 and Santa Fe)

South Suburban's DeKoevend Park has about eight courts (Arapahoe & University in South Denver)

Washington Park has six or eight courts in Central Denver (Downing & Louisianna) [That could be more difficult for us to find two courts. It's one of "the" parks the Denver players use....]

I'm not very aware of Littleton or Aurora courts which might also be "handy" to our widespread group. Anyone?

Huh. I've never paid to pay at Redstone. Wash Park on a Saturday is virtually impossible. I'd say either South Suburban or Castle Rock. I like Gates, but you pay $5 an hour there for singles or $2.50 an hour for doubles, per player. June 9 might be better; I've entered the Northern Colorado Open the last two years, and it's that weekend. Of course, no women have signed up for Open singles yet, so I might not end up playing it this year.

...or June 9 is fine. I'd vote for Gates, personally, that way we're guaranteed courts...I usually play in/around Boulder (there's another possibility...just kidding!) so I don't know how crowded the public parks courts are in Denver...lemmeno, I'm in...

I know of some seldom used courts at Tamarac and I225 we could play at. They're in good condition. I think there are 4 or 6 there. Can't remember; haven't played there in a bit. In Aurora, Utah Park has good courts, 10 in all I think, at Peoria just north of Iliff. Those are right by my house and would work well also. While I like Gates, if we are going to play there we'd have to shell out probably $7.50-$10 each. Anyway, let's just firm up the date first. 2nd or 9th? Either works.

Nice, I'm glad this might work out -keep me posted. I'm busy through the 31st and should be free to meet with you guys anywhere along the front range after wards. FYI I'm in Denver near the capital, and if Denver is the most central location and we want to avoid the busy places like Wash Park and Gates I know a few other places just in case.

Cheers.

I'd prefer the 9th ... but if everyone picks the 3rd, I'll be there.

Arafel's correct, those Tamarac / I-225 (1.5 miles from the I-25 / I-225 interchange) are pretty nice ... and seldom used. (I don't remember if there are Bathrooms right "at" the courts, but there are ... in the adjoining Park. It may be one of the easiest Parks for everyone to find.

P.S. Make sure you remember cameras. We want to commemorate the event....

...I'm going to be doing the Elephant Rock Bike Ride on June 3. June 2 or 9 is fine. Here's the deal: if we want to make this happen, I think our best bet is Gates. I just found a 20 dollar bill in my tennis bag (no, I am not making this up...) so I'll be happy to pick up the tab for court time, and I'm playing in the Colorado Open at Gates, so it'd be great if I could hit some balls there before the tournament. Sound good? If so, just lemmeno the details...date, how many hours we want to play (let's go for a 24 hour marathon...just kidding!), start times, and so forth, and I'll call Gates early the day before (you can only do reservations one day ahead) and get the courts....

Parking at Gates sucks right now because of the reconstruction. I should I know; I play on a ladder there.

I think the courts at 225/25 Tamarac are better for a group outing, but I'll play at Gates if everyone prefers it. I can do either the 2nd or the 9th. The nice thing about playing somewhere like Tamarac is that we can relax a bit. At Gates the fee is $10 per hour per court, so if all 8 show up and we want to play for 2-4 hours, we'd be looking at $40-$80 minimum. I like Gates; I just don't think it's the ideal place for a group outing. Plus, for those coming from southern areas, the Tamarac courts are literally RIGHT off 225, so they'd be simple to get to, and there is a 7-11 and a convenience store right across the street. Also, parking is simple; either Quebec street or the Microcenter parking lot.

I think Gates is only $5, but there might be an issue of reserving a court? Maybe not? Also, if we decide to stay longer...we pay more. On the other hand there is no guarantee that the Tamarac courts will be available either? Plus those courts are windy and full of cracks  Although they could have resurfaced them? Or not:confused: I really don't care anymore  Someone pick a time and location :-D

OK, so, while awaiting KK's group moderation, should we all plan for the 2nd at Tamarac courts? The 9th can be the backup date, if needed. So far, we have:

I thought it was $5 for singles, $10 for doubles, but I could be wrong. I'll check with Gates; but yes, the longer we stay the more we pay, and depending on how busy they are it might be harder to just claim the courts. I can swing by those courts at Tamarac tomorrow morning on my way to work just to double check them.
