Tweener problems: pure strike 100 or pro staff 100

I'm an out of shape recently minted 40 year old man (emphasis on old lol) who has been happily slapping unforced error after unforced error in 4.0 for a couple years now. I've been playing with a pure strike 100 and still more or less happy with it but getting the itch to try something new. I'll be participating in the upcoming 2022 EZone playtest (hopefully the 100) and have the pro staff 100 and vcore pro 100 coming as demos. Semi-recently played around with pure drive VS, various heads (though I suspect not the right ones for my preferred spec range), dr98, and others but nothing that clicked. Anyone who has already gone down this path have any wisdom for me? My abridged racquet history: Wilson 6.1 95 (whoops bit off more than I can chew) for about a year to pro staff 95 for 1 year to pro staff 97 for about 2-3 years to pure strike 98 6 months to pure strike 100 (2-3 years) and a couple dozen flings in between those for some side strange action.

Would appreciate any insights or advice.

Is there something more that you'd like to achieve out of your Pure Strike 100? (comfort, control/power, etc.)

I generally really like it, there isn't anything the racquet can't do if I execute correctly. I can say it doesn't have as much power as something like a pure drive or pure aero. It doesn't volley as well as my old pro staff 97 and the serves aren't as heavy. I just get the itch to try something new every once in a while and I usually go back to my normal racquet. It would be useful to know people's experiences as it is hard to read between the lines from published reviews.

You seem to be on a journey from smaller/heavier racquets to lighter/bigger models. Cut out the middle steps and go straight to the ‘Big Bubba’ - Gamma RZR 137.

This is going to be a bit of a shot in the dark, but the good 100 square inch tweeners are the Pure Aero/Drive (if you don't mind the stiffness), Head Extreme MP, VCore/Ezone 100. If you want something heavier/flexier, try the Clash 100 Pro. Also heard good things about the Iga 298 which seems to be a TW playtester/TennisNerd favorite.

I haven't had much luck with Head racquets, but I'll throw that on the list. I've hit with my friend's vcore 100 and didn't gel with it, but will be trying the vcore pro 100 and the ezone 100. i have hit with clash racquets but not the 100 pro, so I'll try that out. I definitely didn't have the Iga 298 on my radar, so I appreciate that suggestion. thanks!

None of them. As i understand you want a control oriented tweener. My suggestion to you is speed mp. Pro staff doesn’t have free spin and power is mediocre….. strike 100 latest is harsh, it plays hollow and feel is worse than second gen.

Hmm ok I will add it to the list. I'm pretty sure I demo'd one maybe 3 years ago but will give it another shot. Thanks!

i know about that strange. i was gonna say speed pro but then saw you dont gel with head racquets. might be worth a whirl anyway. it would be a steady though
