Two handed Backhand !

I am a beginner and have serious issues with my 2hBHbackhand.
i have been thinking about this but could not find a right reason.

my coach told me 2HBH is just a left hand forhenand but with right hand used.
That also means I have to use my left hand for my backhand and just use right hand for support. So far looks ok.

I can hit right hand forehand and left hand forehand with ease. Infact
i can hit with more power with lefthand than right hand eventhough im a right handed guy.Now comes the problem the time i put my right hand on to racquet handle my whole motion gets abrupted and my power drastically reduces. I do not have any video as such. Even when im hitting two handed backhand i could never generate speed of my left hand forehand and morever it becomes a flat hit than spin hit.

Any thoughts on this. Anybody been here before?

thanks,
jis

Where on the grip is your left hand for your lefty FH? Is it near the butt of the racket handle (where a lefty would hold the grip) or is it at the top of the grip (where your left hand would be for your 2hBh)? You should be able to swing the racket much faster with the hand further down on the grip. However, you should be practicing those lefty FHs with the left hand in the upper position in order to develop it for the 2hBh.

It is also normal that you can swing the racket faster with 1 hand (low on the grip) than with two hands. Two hands provides you with a shorter lever arm which actually inhibits your ability to swing the racket as fast.

When you add your right hand to the racket for the 2hBh, are you using a continental grip. This right hand grip allows the left arm to function more easily to provide more of the power and spin for your 2hBh.

thanks for the reply..

Lefty FH grip is on the butt of handle when i practise whereas even at the top of the grip there is a faster swing. im using continental grip for my right hand. sometimes i feel my right hand obstructs the shoulder turn movement required for generating power while doing 2HBH.

Does a lefty have more chances of improving 2HBH faster than righty?

i think im neither.

First of all, anytime you shorten your leverage by adopting two hands, you lose out on leverage! But you can gain in shoulder turn and torso rotation, to get the power back. Some very good players actually spread their hands, their top hands well up the throat of the racket, and use torso rotation and shoulder turn to get the power.
You can grip oft hand lower, strong hand off the butt of the racket to get the leverage.
Which hand you pick is your personal choice. Consider which you serve and volley better with.
Changing hands is almost an impossibility....ALMOST. Just because no one seems to be able to do it, doesn't mean you cannot do it. But it's against the current, flow, odds.

This is normal for someone learning a 2H BH. Many never get past the uncomfortable feeling ...and use the "dreaded" 1H the rest of their lives!! ;) Just kidding.

You're not forced to turn your hips or shoulders as much when you swing with just one hand. This is essential for a solid 2H. The downside to the 2H is exactly what gives the stroke reliability and control - Movement is restricted.

I suggest you watch players like Murray, Safin, Agassi, etc. Basically they get a good hip and shoulder turn and use the hand closest to the strings (your left) to drive through the shot.

You're probably overthinking this. Let your right hand/arm get out of the way as you swing forward. All it really does is assist, not provide power to this shot.
