Two Handed Off Both Sides-The Next Revolution in Tennis

I disagree.

The most powerfull groundstroke in tennis is the one-handed killer
forehand. This is clearly evident in professional and college tennis
around the world.

I do not think that a 2-handed forehand will ever replace it.

It won't. The one handed forehand is superior to a two handed forehand. But i think a two handed backhand is better than a onehander.

what a nice thread, and so old!

let me add something: monica seles DID change grips but she used a regular two handed backhand and forehand with the dominant hand @ bottom! but she has changed the grips when switching between bh and fh.

the future of tennis is either two one handed forehands(maybe with the two handle racquet) or double handed forehand + double handed backhand

monica seles is for me still the most talented player of all men and women. i think she would do much more if wouldt there be that knife attack :evil::evil:

and she would be more popular, more player would try to "copy" her, the double handed forehand would be even more popular.

lets face it in a short, direct way:

the two handed forehand is powerful just like the two handed backhand, or even more. its just downtrodden and needs some attention. there are only few coaches who know, and even less who teach that stroke. the one hander is COOL in a way, and thats why players choose this. When two handed forehand will be more popular there will be a great revolution in tennis.

Nope. Racquets and strings are 100% different then when Seles played. There is no longer any advantage to a 2 handed forehand in any way. And with today's amazing speed and power, any 2 handed forehand player with even slightly less reach would get eaten for lunch by the top 10 men or women. They would be demolished.

Wow...I gues we shouldn't tell this to Marion Bartoli who just beat the NUMBER ONE SEED in Miami! She, a two handed forehand player, ate Svetlaniva for lunch. But, I'm sure that was just a fluke... Except that she is one of the few players who has a winning record over top 10 world ranked players too. But, again, probably just a fluke.

Today's amazing speed and power? What are you referring too exactly? I hope just the tech, because if you think the human race got magically faster and stronger in the last 20 years... well...

Billy Idol's original point (sorry I caught this thread so late) was that the the Seles 2 handers could generate wicked angles that simply demolished her opponents in a way not seen before. It was a weapon NEW to tennis.
I have thought about this quite a bit myself. Monica hit a very wristy shot and the FH was nearly a mirror image of the BH; she kept her hands and elbows very close to her body so she was able to easily hit the side of the ball with the topspin needed to keep an angled ball in the court.
I have been waiting for someone to try to duplicate this and possibly earn her/his self a place in the top ten or better with it. But it has not happened.
Recently I saw Marion Bartoli play here in Thailand. I think she has just the right foundation to accomplish this duplication of Monica's technique. But she hits very flat with her dual 2 handers. What is more, she hits her volleys with topspin on both sides. If she would just draw her elbows in and hit with a loop rather than driving thru the ball, she could do it. She is a very tenacious player and I'd love to see the results she would get if she tried it.
I wonder if anyone has suggested it to her yet ??
Anyone know how to get a letter to a WTA or ITF female player ??

Cheers ....

I totally agree with you. Yet her father is a doctor he probably doesn't know that much about techni. Nevertheless he has taught her well..

I may also add that since she stated that Seles is her idol. She may as well stand closer to the baseline ala Seles. The further she stands from the baseline, the more she has to cover the court. But of course it takes some great reaction time to play like Seles.

What a ridiculous title for the thread. If you are a grown man and hitting a 2 handed Fh, and if its not due to previous arm injuries, then you need to man up. Even hitting 2hbh takes some justification, the most valid in my book is you are either too weak for a 1bh, it is too tough for you to learn, or injury issues.
It is not how tennis is meant to be played, sure its not illegal, but its just not right.

Like when golfers used the broomstick to putt. It just states you are not good enough to play the game as it should be played.

Apologies if I offend decent people who use these shots, not my intention.

Thank You.

hehe the same thing can be said of 1hbh. You are either too weak for a 2bh, it is too tough for you to learn, or injury issues. Who the heck can be strong with both bh styles to make comparison?

LOL at assuming that anyone who hits with 2 hands is weak. I'm contemplating going to a 2HFH and I guarantee that I can out-lift and am quicker than most of those 6 foot, 150 lb, lanky little tennis players I see at my club (yes, even those that hit with 1 hand on BOTH sides) any day. In fact, the reason I'm thinking about making the switch is because my one handed forehand is too OUT of control (as in I hit it too hard). Don't make generalizations about people when you don't know their individual situations.
