Carlos Alcaraz and Stefanos Tsitsipas have officially qualified for the ATP Finals. They join Rafael Nadal (officially) and Novak Djokovic (unofficially). That leaves four more spots remaining. In theory Medvedev and Ruud could both qualify by meeting in the US Open final, both needing a minimum of a final to cross the threshold.

Edit: Medvedev and Ruud are in the same half, so only one can qualify going forward.

Whoever qualifies, Alcaraz and Djokovic are big favourites in this edition (considering someone wins USO and gets in top 8, as Nole won't even play ATP final in that case).

In what scenario Djokovic does not get to qualify? If someone outside the top 7 in the race wins US Open and ends up better ranked than Djokovic, he is out? Are there any such candidates with realistic chances?

Yeah, it would have to be something wild like Jenson Brooksby (or someone worse/lower ranked) winning the USO

I'm sorry not sorry but I disagree 100% with Djokovic being in the ATP finals. What the hell? That is so incredibly WRONG! He hasn't earned it! Top 8 get in and he isn't top 8!

If Berrettini or Sinner (maybe a few more players) win the the US Open, they might qualify before Djokovic.

“If there is one current-year Grand Slam champion positioned between eighth and 20th in the Race, he qualifies in eighth place. If there are two current-year Grand Slam champions positioned between eighth and 20th in the Race, the highest-placed of those players becomes the eighth and final qualifier; the lower-placed Grand Slam champion will serve as the alternate.

“If there are no current-year Grand Slam champions positioned between eighth and 20th, then the player at eighth in the Race will claim the eighth and final berth.”

The trick is to qualify ahead of Djokovic, but outside of the top 7. Either would jump into the top 7, so would qualify outright (or be in running for such). Which is why I said Brooksby or someone like that. They'd have to get into that perfect spot just outside of the top 7 and ahead of Djokovic. Pretty narrow band.

I was searching for a confirmation of this information - where did you see it? When I google searched I didn't find any results - btw I want this to be true! I love Carlos!!!

Tsitsipas who almost got DOUBLE BAGGELED by the clay specialist qualified Galan, got rewarded by a qualification for the ATP Finals? This is amusing.
