Two overgrips? Feedback please from people using this

If I were to buy a racket of gripsize L3 and need to get it up to around an L4 or L5, would using two overgrips be OK?

I have tried using heatshrink sleeves before which I hated. Is using two overgrips a good solution?

Thanks

I've only used 2 overgrips when demoing racquets - I typically use a 4 5/8" grip plus one overgrip so I have to build the 4 1/2" demos up some.

The problem I ran into when using 2 overgrips was that I couldn't feel the bevels of the racquet handle (the grip seemed to become too rounded), which caused me to have problems finding/feeling the correct grip as quickly as normal. It also seemed reduce the ease of which I was able to get spin.

I believe the overgrips increases the grip size by 1/16". So if you use 2 overgrips, it will build it up one grip size (1/8"). As TripleB stated, you tend to lose the feel of the bevels if you put on more than one overgrip. I would actually stick with the heat shrink sleeves. It gives more definition to the bevels.

I use two overgrips. I am between size 2 and 3. On my PS Torch (aka Trance), I have grip size 2 and two very thin Babolat VS aeroperf grips. It's almost as thick as 3 but not quite. Personally, I like the feel. I believe the Babolat VS (original) might be even a tad thinner (0.4 mm). Obviously, if you choose a thicker overgrip, you may as well buy the racquet with the bigger grip size.

use shrink wraps. they are designed to keep the bevels intact, while increasing grip size by exactly 1 size.

I've used two ogs with no problem. Typically, I use a very thin, non-cushy one (Gamma Grip2) and then wrap a slightly thicker one (Wilson X-Tra Tack or Prince Duratac) over that. No question that some feel for the bevels is lost, but not enough to trouble me.

I first remove the original grip.

Layer 1: I wrap a thin overgrip without them overlapping.
Layer 2: I use "folded-to-a-certain-thickness" aluminum foil to keep the bevels. This is very, very light and, being metal, it helps keep the bevels to a certain extent.
Layer 3: Another thin overgrip as in layer 1.
Layer 4: The original grip.

Of course the bevels won't be perfect but much better than two consecutive overgrip layers.

I really don't like to use more than one grip. I use 1 tournagrip, that's it.
I like the feel of the bevels to help with the grip. If you build up with more than one grip it rounds off the bevels.
If you don't like the grip size it can be built up by taking off the grip and adding shivs to the bevel. But then you probably arlready knew that.

if u took the main grip off and put 2 overgrips straight on to the handle and then put the main grip back on would it have the sam effect, would i keep the bevels??

I use two overgrips, but without original leather grip. It isn’t that I don’t like leather, but this way I can get the grips size just the way I like it so I must remove original and put two overgrips.

I myself am pretty specific in as far as how I like my Grip to feel.

On my Racquet I play matches with I use a Leather Grip with an Overgrip. That to me is my ideal set up and I can feel the Bevels perfectly.

On the Frame I feed balls with I went one size smaller on the grip, built it up with a Heat Shrink Sleeve and used a Synthetic Grip and an Overgrip. This definitely rounds out the Bevels. I did this so that is so that it would be a softer feel on it, as I am not looking for performance as much as comfort when feeding. To me, that is OK, as it is just my feeding Racquet.

Having said that, each person's preference is different, but I would not like two Overgrips on my playing Frame.

If you are like me my measured grip size is some where between 4 3/8 (L3)and 4 1/2 (L4). On my L4s, I just use plain leather. On my L# I hav been experimenting with the leather and one overgrip. So far not to bad. There is a noticible lose of feel, but I was able to adjust. Two overgrips you need to get strings with more feel/playability.

If you're going to go this route, I would recomend using a thin overgrip for the bottom layer, then you can add a thick one on top. If you were to use say two supergrap layers, you would really loose all the bevels. I have a backup racquet with a 3/8 grip where I did the thin thick technique to build it up to somewhere btwn 1/2 and a 5/8. It works ok for a backup. But I wouldn't want it to be my every day stick.
