On Sunday we will have the RG final. For Tsitsipas winning means his first slam and losing means having to wait for another chance. It‘s binary.

For Novak the situation is slightly different because he’s a contender in the overall slam race. He entered RG two slams behind Nadal and Fed. In principle he could have finished it three slams behind Nadal, making it that more unlikely he would catch up. But if he wins on Sunday he will be only one behind.

So for Novak the value of of RG is really two slams in the slam race. End 3 behind (worst scenario) or end 1 behind (best scenario). By beating Nadal Novak has already accomplished a lot, stopping one of his rivals in the slam race from increasing his lead. It will be up to him on Sunday to see if he can reduce that lead. I think so but we learned today it’s better to wait for the final results.

In any case today’s was a huge win for Novak in the slam race. And whatever happens on Sunday we now move to grass and HC where he has even more chances.

Well, not exactly 2 slams in one. Every slam has the potential to be won by Federer or Nadal, it's no different than it's ever been. Sure, he's stopped his rival from getting it, but the important part is this happened at the one that Nadal was a heavy favorite for and that everyone was already marking as a slam in his column.

Stopping him here is pretty much buying time for Novak to catch up at other venues (even if he doesn't win), but getting the win puts him in pole position moving forward. I suppose we'll see what ends up happening on Sunday.

Honestly, even if djokovic loses the final, he is still in a pretty good position when it comes to slam count. He would be 2 slams behind nadal and federer with 3 slams coming up where he is the favourite. If he wins though, he would become the outright favourite in the slam race.
