Do we finally have a changing of the guard? (lol).

With Dimitrov losing to Edmund, we'll have two unseeded semifinalists
.

Is it 'weak era' or is it the 'next gen' breaking through?

Every slam since the 2008 Wimbledon tournament has had 4 seeded players make the SF. This slam has not one but two unseeded players which is the exact same as 2008 Wimbledon which had Schuttler and Safin!

Not a surprise.

Part of a wider pattern. 2 masters for Zverev, Dimi Kyrgios masters final. The whole madness of the US Open bottom half. The Paris Masters, a Goffin Dimi YEC final.

The top of the tour is much weaker now than it has been for a while.

Suppose that is what happens when Murray, Djokovic and Wawrinka can't compete.

Next best Nishikori and Raoinc also hurt.

Ferrer, Tsonga and Berdych got old.

Sign of things to come. With the dominance of the Big 4 lifting, we'll start to see more of that.
Also expect a lot of the Lost Gen to start getting breakthroughs. We saw this last year. Their level doesn't even need to be high to get lucky with a big result.

Krajinovic in a Masters Final, Sock winning a Masters, Pablo Carreno Busta in the US semi-finals, Dimitrov winning WTF...
And just in the last year a huge number of them are showing career best form. Goffin, Schwartzman, Mannarino.
Even challenger players like Dzumhur and Sugita are starting to have good results on the main tour.

Wouldn't even be surprised if Raonic or Nishikori manage to win a Masters, despite their form.

Slams are safe for now. Though another Anderson could happen soon.

Still Sandgren is one of the last players I would've expected to be still standing.
