Federer leads the head to head 14-2. Gasquet has never beat him outside of clay in 2005 and 2011. Who wins the battle of the beautiful backhands?

Fed does everything better than Gasquet except the BH. Federer in 4.

Wouldn't surprise me if Fed lost a set tbh, but no more. Could also see him winning in 3 pretty easy ones. That said, I'll be optimistic. Federer in 3.

Could they have made the second week any breezier for Federer? Perhaps next year they’ll pull out a Davydenko or Roddick out of retirement to fill the draw.

As good as Gasquet's backhand is I don't think it's so much better than Fed's where it would make a difference. Fed is better in every facet of the game, but also Fed has one of the strongest mental games on tour. Berdych put up a pretty poor fight today against Gasquet and played pretty terribly after losing the 2nd set. Berdych has the game to win a slam but his head is not their and he has a lot of bad losses this year. For Gasquet to beat Federer he will have to play out of his mind, there is no chance Federer will give him any help.

Federer wins but I won't be surprised if Gasquet takes a set. He has played some good ball here if you have been watching his matches, ultimately Fed will still go through to the semi.

Don't forget that Fed has not been taking anyone lightly this year, so I expect all business and straight sets.

Not everyone has to go through Melzer like Berdych did. It's not easy and the toll hits you later as it did last night when he played Gasquet.

It's not better than Fed's. He was hitting it from so deep behind the baseline tonight on Armstrong that he would run out of room. Fed will eat that up.

And what is up with the voodoo routine that Gasquet does where he touches the area around the baseline with his racket before certain points.

Gasquet is 3-0 in Grand Slam QFs I believe...

Fair play to Richard, he has really carved out a god solid career in the end, last 3 seasons he has been the real deal. (2014 was injury disrupted)

The return of Returnerer.

Gasquet will be a huge test. I think he is one of those players that may be peaking this year, albeit late in their careers. 4 possibly 5 sets.

Federer in straights I imagine. But would love Gasquet to make it competetive, now Murray's out a Gasquet Tsonga final would be incredible. Pretty unlikely however.

Gasquet = Virtual Walkover for Big 3. No upset potential at all. Happy to see this guy as QF opponent for Federer instead of Berdych.

I don't know, normally I'd say Fed in straights, since it's a rather well known positive matchup for the legend.

However...I'm not sure, but I'm feeling Gasquet can trouble him this time. He's been improving as the tournament goes. He's played his best match here against Tomaz.

Well, let's see how it plays out.

Not sure if you mean Gasquet who seems to have recently surrendered the weight of expectations, or the 34 year old who owns 5 wins at the Open and 17 wins at all majors...
I obviously meant Gasquet.

I would LOVE to see a Anderson vs Cilic final, to be quite honest.

I dig Gasquet, and love the fact that he seems to be somewhat rejuvenated.

That said, I still believe this is one of those matches Fed will win in straights. Gasquet is still a bit too passive for this kind of opposition, and it plays straight into Fed's hands.

Richard could take a set, though, if he has a great day and Fed has a loose game or two.

If they go to a fourth set, it is anybody's game. Federer cannot run around the court, as he has been, for 4 or five sets.

I respectfully disagree.

Fed's stamina is mostly only exploited by the likes of Djokovic and Murray even these days. Last year for instance, Fed outlasted Monfils at the USO.

I don't think fitness is going to come into Gasquet's favor here, more likely the opposite, and even if it goes to a fifth, I'd be very surprised to see Richard take it.

Those predicting a Fed win in straights have probably not noticed that of late, Gasquet seems to have become more clutch and consistent.
becoming clutch & consistent...well, in his terms yes. I just can't see it right now how he would win. That's not enough. When I have watched Gasquet this year then I realised he's doing better in many departments but the serve. Don't think he'll be able to serve out many "easy" games and without that it's going to be very hard to win any set vs Federer.

Gasquet is playing awesome tennis, but yeah... it seems Federer feels really confortable playing against him. I would expect Gasquet winning a set if Roger is not cruising. So, Fed in 3 or 4.

I love Gasquet's game and I am one of his biggest fans. Even emulate my backhand after his. But Federer wins this for me, 10 times out of 10. Gasquet cannot handle this match up, he suffers against players that are quick, aggressive, allowing no rhythm..aka RF.

Meh Rafa and Andy weren't good enough. Go home.

Yes, back to the Majorca hellhole for Rafa, Umeda penthouse dungeon for Nishikori, and Murray has plans too, I am sure. Meanwhile, Djokovic and Federer get to hang out in Queens a bit longer LMAO...

Berdych probably forgot how to play tennis after straight-setting the German retiree while asleep. Berankis at least showcased memorable 5-setters against talented players.

Would great if Gasquet SnV'd & SABR'd Federer, at least sometimes.

Hoping for 2005 in 2015 but it will be very tough and a bit of a surprise.
