Ubersonic 3 Review

I just played in my new Ubersonic 3's and I really enjoy this shoe. I wouldn't say that I have a wide foot, but the wider fitting toe box is very comfortable. I usually hover between a 7 and 8 US sizing, and 7.5 fit my feet just fine. I don't have the greatest frame of reference when it comes to tennis shoes as I have not really played in any flagship shoes, save for the Babolat Propulses over 4 years ago and the Propulse Fury last year. The Ubersonic is very plush and feels great underfoot. I felt very fast and springy. Compared to the Propulse Fury, it felt much more like a running shoe than a structured shoe. The tread was a more slick than I am used to, but after some adjustment I actually enjoyed it a lot. I also felt very secure, even though the Ubersonic has much less plastic/tpu on the upper compared to the Propulses. I can't comment on the durablility yet as I've only worn them for one hitting session. Definitely one of my favorite shoes. There was little to no break in for me.

Thanks for the review! Please dont forget to follow up with the durability because i'm debating on whether or not i should get these shoes

Pretty darn hard. I slide and I go through the Head Revolt 2's within 3-4 months. The 2018 Barricade was 2 months. The Novak Pro's took a while though but still within 6 months. Oh and I play on hard courts.
I'm in college now and I wont be playing the usual 4-5 times a week. Im hoping to play at least 2 times a week so thats that. I still want to save money but I'm not sure if i should buy a shoe with a warranty or not.
Thanks for asking :)

If you're going through shoes that quickly I think you're better off getting a shoe with a warranty just to be on the safe side.

I really didn't like it. I got blisters and my socks was bloody after training and running suicide drills. idk, maybe its just my foot shape. the sole court boosts fit like a dream though.

3 sessions in with this shoe and the cushioning just seems off? My feet hurt after about 30 minutes every time.

I can still move well and support seems fine. Maybe the arch is bad for my foot.

I am gonna have to try this one. how was the cushioning in giving back energy ? is it similar to the very popular nike Vapor 10 ? or Yonex power cushion tech ?

No, it is not like the Vapor X. the sole is really flexible and it feels like it is going to fall off. nike vaporx is solidly built and feels way better in my opinion. hope I helped!

This is strange. because all TW testers say this one has More cushioning than previous version ubersonic 2.

The only shoes I used recently to compare it to are the Asics Gel Resolution 6. Those I loved except, I managed to find a way to roll my ankles in them somewhat frequently. Plus they were quite hefty.

At this point I'm just trying to find a good shoe that's comfortable and speedy. I'm going to continue to wear the Ubersonics to see what happens. No other issues other than some mild arch discomfort with the Ubersonics so far. I would say I have relatively flatter feet but I'm still a D width.

Oh I see. it maybe a arch issue then. you may just need a good Insole that fits your arch. I thought you were talking about cushioning or shock absorption?

The Ubersonic 3 is a good shoe for those with wider/fuller feet, than slim narrow feet. I'm sorta in the middle so it feels comfortable but not the most locked down. The heel support is adequate. The heel counter doesn't feel 'uber' locked in but not slipping either for me, and I have a narrow heel. I do use the runner's knot to secure it and I also use a custom insole, for arch support, which sorta fills the shoe more. Stability is good but not great. , comfortable and lightweight. Best of all, it's well ventilated so one of the 'coolest' tennis shoes I've owned. I wear it when I play in the heat. Durability is probably about 15-20% less than the Sole Court Boosts and Stycon, similar to the Zoom Zero. The wear pattern is indicative of the way the outsole is patterned. The wear on the outside of the shoe, where the herringbone pattern is a little less tight.

The best clay shoe currently on the market imo.

The best way to describe the cushioning on the ubersonic 3's is "responsive". Amazing court feel, great energy return, but it is nowhere near as soft as something like Yonex's foams. It's just a regular PU foam.

I had the ubersonic 2's, and the cushioning is slightly softer on the 3's.

The upper on the 3's is just incredible. A mixture of being very lightweight with amazing breathability and still plenty of support in a sock-like fit that can be cinched really well with the lacing system they use.

The fit for wide-footers is incredible for sure.

It is an amazIng shoe. But if you try them on, you will notice the cushioning is stiffer than something like a solecourt boost, Zoom seros or the Yonex foams. It does get better after break-in, though, but is still not an overtly "soft" cushion by any stretch.

not sure what you mean by feels like it's going to fall off ??? does that mean Unstable and ankle turning kind of bad support ?

Above guy Stefmeister said the Cushioning felt like it was going to fall off ?? what does that mean ?? does that mean it is unstable ?

Not sure what that means. It think there is great support to it. Maybe he means it bends? Because there is excellent toe flex. I only use it on clay, so i can't comment on how supportive it is on hardcourt. I use a bulkier shoe with much softer cushion for HC.

The cushion design on the ubersonic 3's also includes a really good lateral outrigger in the forefoot, with a natural taper that is great for clay. The outrigger doesnt feel like a block dumped on the side of the shoe like the design on the SCB's.

I gotta say, the main reason I don't think you are going to like the shoe is the cushion. I know you like a really soft ride, and this shoe is different from that. The upper is incredibly comfortable, though.

if you have knee problems, will it hurt the knees after you play ?

It depends on your situation. The best bet is to continue your research.

Maybe narrow the field down to five or six shoes that feel right, and test them further with consultation from a podiatrist, physio and osteopath.

It's a long process, but once you find out the best shoe, then it's really easy. You can just stock up on the preferred shoe and it's a problem you don't have to worry about again for another 5 years.

You save a heap of money in the long run when you stop chopping and changing from different shoes imo.

I agree. I have tried few already. I found out that Nike air Zoom Zero is crap, it killed my feet within 2 hours. but that Vapor 10 is something I could switch to. I wore it to just jog and so on but so far it is very good. next I will use it to test play on the court. With this Stupid lockdown by Silly governor of ours is really putting a delay on my shoes tests. What is he Thinking ???????

The vapor 10 will have quite a good fit if you have a wider foot. Imo that shoe has disgusting cushioning, but it could be alleviated with a drop-in cushioning insole?

The vapor also "feels" fast on foot, and it often goes on sale. If it ends up being the best shoe, you will be able to buy 10-20 pairs and have a shoe you can rely on for seasons into the future.

The zoom zeros have full length zoom, which I love. Not to everyone's taste, and for some people the canvas upper is unpleasant and not comfortable. It's strange that they didn't make a "softer" upper in a comfort based performance shoe. It will be interesting if that gets resolved in the next version (if there is one) or if Nike will make a completely new shoe with full length zoom.

Vapor 10 has disgusting cushioning ?? lol. I thought it was pretty decent, not as plush as yonex powercushion but it was decent. So you think Ubersonic 3 has better cushioning than Vapor 10 ?? if so, I must try it

Ubersonic doesn't have better cushioning imo. It's just PU. Nothing fancy. GREAT clay shoes though.

Did you end up trying any of the Adidas bounce models?

agree with this. Cushioning is fine for my liking and the fact I play almost 100% clay.

It is however not a plush shoe at all, so if that’s what you’re looking for, this is not the shoe for you. I can see it being tough on HC, especially for heelstrikers.

Strengths: comfy and breathable upper, roomy toe box, great clay sole, great fit if your feet are of average width or a bit above that.

how about comparing to Asic FF cushioning like Djokovic shoes ? is FF more cushiony than this ubersonic 3 ?

Shoe opening of this Edberg version seem much bigger and longer than usual ubersonic 3 ?? is that just a optical illusion or something ? or did they intentially make that way ?

Nope, it’s something entirely different. The upper of this edition is made from (synthetic) leather. This is different from the elastic upper of the regular version. The fit is probably the same, but it must feel totally different in use. Must have less flex and be less breathable.

I played in the original Asics Court FFs before switching to the Uber 3s. I made the switch because I have a wide forefoot, and while the original Court FFs stretched well in the front, the FF2's seemed much stiffer and I didn't think they would open up enough. The Uber 3's fit wonderfully with lots of room up front. I really love these shoes.

As to cushioning, the Court FF was more cushioned than the Uber 3 (and most other performance shoes, in my opinion), but the Uber 3s are actually really good at cushion. For a lightweight shoe, I'd actually say they're excellent. That said, it may depend on how you strike. They have fairly consistent cushioning from forefoot to heel, unlike many others that have lots of cushioning in the heel but not much in the forefoot. If you tend to strike the ground on your forefoot, the Uber 3s can be awesome. I have had pain in the balls of my feet with lots of shoes due to lack of forefoot cushioning, but I haven't had that pain at all in my Uber 3s. But, as PaddyDutch said, it may be much rougher for heel strikers, as there's much less cushioning there than in many competitors.

Have you also had experience with Nike Vapor 10 ? where would you put vapor 10 amongh these FF2 and ubersonic 3 for cushioning ? Thank you for your insight

I just ordered a pair of the Ubersonic 3s, let's see if they fit or if I will have to return them like the SoleCourt Boost. Those were way too wide and bulky for me. I have somewhat narrow feet. Adidas used to fit really well before this latest group of shoes went seriously wide and a departure from their past. Time will tell.

Coincidentally, I have SCB and they fit my wide foot really well. Just about to try some US3s, but want to know if they are consistent with SCB sizing. Can anyone tell me?

If you have narrow feet, Nike Cage are for you. They completely wrecked my feet.

Have both. SCB is just a bit wider than the US3.

I have D width neutral foot and have both shoes. The SCB is 'roomier in the forefoot area than the U3 but same size for both fits me length wise. What I did was replace thin insole with a thicker one, which I needed to anyways for arch support and wear the thickest Thorlo sock to feel secure. But it doesn't have that extra eyelet at the top of the shot to allow users to lock down the foot. The laces also loosen and shift. Outsole is tough and noisy. I won't be buying it again.
Of the top Adidas shoes (I haven't tried the SMB), I think the Stycon has the best fit and performance for narrow feet, but it is as warm as the SCB and the feel take some getting used to.

Thanks for the reply. I sent back both the U3 and SCB. Didn't love either one and didn't want to compromise as I know I would regret it later. SCB was far too wide for me and the sole felt needlessly bulky. U3 in the Edberg leather version came up slightly short, and was a touch wide. I wear custom orthotics so I don't think I could get them in the Stycon, so I am not going that route.

I do have a couple pairs of shoes left, wearing a Asics Res 6 and have a new Res 7, also a U2 to use before I run out. Can't play tennis now anyway in the SF Bay Area as all the courts are locked and clubs are closed. I do still miss the Barricade 2 and adiZero Feather. Loved those models.

The Stycon Boa can probably fit the orthotics, as it's adjustable.

Which of the ubersonic 2 and ubersonic 3 have better cushioning in your opinion ? Thanks

3s but 2s have better ankle support. 3s also are wider on midfoot while 2s have a more of a Vapor fit. I believe overall 2s are a better shoe but for my Achilles issues 3s are THE BEST!
Can i ask, which one had more bouncy energy giving back cushioning ? 2 or 3 ? Uber2 saids it has Adiprene + tech in the midsole and Uber3 is just a PU cushioning all the way. I don't know much about Adiprene + tech but i wonder if it gives back energy more than PU cushion ??
