UFC: Iceman vs Rampage

this is a tough one.....rampage is an animal in the cage also. I say Rampage if it goes to the ground...but if Lidell catches him.....lights out. But that said.....Jackson has a hell of a punch also. It should be an interesting fight.

Considering that we are in San Luis Obispo, Chuck's home town, I gotta give it to Liddell. I would not be suprised at all though if Rampage wins and he is actually a pretty smart bet with the odds.

"If you're going to measure every parameter [endurance, flexibility, coordination, strength], without a doubt, MMA fighters are the most accomplished athletes out there," says Carlon Colker, a Connecticut physician who has trained or advised the likes of Andre Agassi and Shaquille O'Neal as well as UFC fighters. "It's not even close."
Interesting.

I hope Wertheim doesn't cover the MMA beat. Sometimes I think he barely understands tennis.

I'm taking Chuck, but I hope it's a good fight. Chuck has improved a lot since their last fight and at least from what I saw in his last fight, Rampage has lost a lot. He won that fight by being maniacally aggressive, and since he took those knees to the head from Silva, he hasn't shown quite that same aggression. Arona had Rampage in trouble before he issued perhaps the single greatest highlight reel move in MMA history. Don't like Jackson's chances.

Chuck better hope for that one big shot, and Rampage better hope chuck doesn't land it. I'll go with Rampage. If Randleman couldn't take him down then I don't think Chuck can threaten him with that. I think Rampage studies the Lidell tapes, avoids his punches, and takes him down.

Liddell all the way, he has improved so much since 2003.
Rampage has been KO'ed a few time, by Silva and Shogun. Also he was KO'ed by Arona, but the idiot referee missed that call, leading to the infamous Powerbomb/Head Butt KO.

Liddell by KO Round 2

True, but that was quite a long time ago. Chucks has risen in confidence and ability while Jackson has fallen.

Chuck for the KO in the 1st or 2nd. It ain't going to be pretty.
Ya think? Because that was a pretty one sided, brutal beat-down.

Chuck had nothing. And he'll remember that when he fights him this time, which won't do well for his confidence.

Lets see Couture pumeled him and embarassed him in the first fight and Liddell dominated him in the next 2 fights, Liddell pummeled Horn after he lost by sub the first time. I don't see why Liddell will not get revenge on Rampage. After Rampage bring on the newly signed Shogun.

I just watched that fight, and Rampage was beating him from EVERYWHERE! Jackson is the favorite.

Find any MMA website that says Jackson is the favorite. Chuck is true world class. He's on a roll. He's upped his game since their last fight. And he's more used to the Octagon and UFC rules. I hope it's a good fight, though. Giving mad props to Dana for making this one happen so quickly.

People I know who fought in MMA are picking Jackson. They all believe Jackson would beat Tito, so any wins against Tito only proves he belongs in the ring with Rampage, not a sign of probable victory. I like both fighters, but after seeing that first fight I don't see Chuck knocking him out, and if Chuck doesn't knock him out, I pick Rampage.

""For all Liddell’s achievements in the last four years, for all the appearances on TV, radio and magazine covers and the like, the fact is that it was Rampage, not the Iceman, who did the butt-kicking last time out. No matter that Liddell has gone undefeated since that night while Jackson hasn’t, Rampage is the better fighter over the Iceman until Liddell proves otherwise on the battlefield.

Jackson barked: “What’s going on TV or being in magazines got to do with his fighting skills? What he do, I mean the photo shoots, the interviews that he have, that don’t bother me, they don’t got nothing to do with how good he can throw a punch. It don’t bother me at all. I don’t give a damn. It means nothin’ to me. I beat him. That‘s all.”

The Iceman shrugs the jibes off and notes that far from taking offense to Rampage’s taunts, he actually finds them kinda funny.

“He’s a funny guy, one of my favourites,” Liddell smiled. “I like him and respect him a lot. He’s very entertaining, man. One of my favourite things he did was when we were watching a fight (at a previous UFC) and everyone else was yelling the ref to stand the
fighters up, Quinton was yelling at the ref “Put them on the ground! Put them on the ground!” It made me laugh pretty good.”

Joking aside, though, surely Liddell - perhaps during a hard run or before he shuts his eyes at night – must have considered Jackson’s claims that the Iceman’s punches never hurt him in their infamous PRIDE FC fight.

“He can say that,” Liddell said. “But I know I hurt him in the last fight. He’s a better striker than Tito or Randy, sure, and I think he can stand with me and he hits hard. I’ve got to hit him and not get hit a little. I’m going to try and make him adjust to what I want him to do. When I go out there I’m going to try to make them fight my fight. And, you know, I’m not afraid to stand there and exchange with anybody.

“So, if he really (believes I can’t punch hard) and wants to exchange with me it will be at least fast, exciting and short night for him. I am just ready for this.”

Real ready, by the sound of it. Hackleman, a no-nonsense ex-boxer who doesn’t go in for hyperbole, insists: “This is the best camp we’ve ever had, Chuck and I. We’ve not done anything any different and we always work very, very hard in camp, but something has just clicked perfectly for this fight.”

OK, like what?

“Some of it was luck,” the Pit master said. “Chuck hasn’t picked up a single injury, not one pull or strain, which is pretty unique for us. Chuck especially seems to pick up injuries here and there but he’s 100% healthy for this one.

“But Chuck's hitting harder now than he ever has and his timing and accuracy right now better than ever. Really. He is punching harder from every angle, moving away or moving in towards the target. This could be the best Chuck you’ll ever see. This could be the performance and fight of his life.”"

I especially like the last couple paragraphs. I am so pumped up for this fight. I just hope that it isn't a 1 minute brawl. ROCK AND ROLL!!

Rampage is one scary MoFo....there was a fight where the opponent tried to lock Rampages arm and Rampage lifted him with one arm and SLAMMED the guy down knocking him unconscious...THAT WAS SICK!!!

Ya that fight was awesome. It was Rampage vs Ricardo Arona.

BTW it was Rampage's Head-Butt that knocked Arona out not the actual slam. Watch the video of it and the interview after, Rampage had a huge gash above his right eye, but it was impressive none the less.
One of the 2 best slams seen next to Randleman's suplex of Fedor, I believe on the same card.

Ya no doubt. It was a 2 in 1 KO combo!

Thanks, saw K1 back in the day, best KOs of all time. Was not sure what K1 Heros was all about. Just remember the year long tourneys in Pride and K1.

You called it, man. Wow. That was actually a pretty satisfying fight even though I barely got my money's worth. Jackson's ridiculously strong to be able to almost knock a guy out with such an armed hooked like that. Dana has gotta be happy about this -- the UFC fighter with the potential to connect the best with football and baseball loving America is now a champion. Chuck Liddell was their most popular fighter and the guy had the personality of a bologna sandwich. Rampage has got the name, the personality, and the look to really attract a whole new demographic.

I would have agreed with you a year ago, but the whole MMA landscape has changed since then. Gomi and Crocop have both lost in the Octagon.

I'd really like to see Fedor, Sokoudjou, Yamamoto Kid, Denis Kang, and Big Nog, among others, fight in the Octagon.

PREDICTION: the UFC will say Chuck Liddell's never lost to the same guy in the Octagon.

Wow! It was sad to see Chuck lose but I'm glad it was a cool dude like Quinton.

BTW K1 is legit MMA. They also promote other forms of fighting with different rules but the k1 Dynamite card will be the same rules you see in UFC.

man gotta give Rampage his due, great KO. Looks like Dan Henderson is next for Rampage. Also I am sure he would like to Avenge his losses to Wanderlei and Shogun in 2008 sometime.

Gomi actually lost to Nick Diaz in a PRIDE Ring although it took place in CA. Later the match was ruled a NC as Diaz was busted for Marijuana and suspended 9 months I believe, which is nothing since Gomi also broke Diaz's orbital bone during the fight.

My bad, you're right.

It seemed strange to me last night that they were promoting about 3 UFC events into the future, and Crocop isn't in any of them.

Shogun to me is the top light heavyweight in the world. He looks more or less fully recovered. He beat Rampage pretty badly last time. With Rampage, a guy with a very limited MMA skillset, it's all about matchups. Shogun is a bad matchup. He's too skilled, too athletic, and he's meaner than Rampage, who is aggressive in the ring but strikes me as being a really nice guy underneath it all.

Man, Rampage is really vulnerable in the Thai clinch.

I was in a pub and everyone booed when the ref called the fight so early. I think that's why everyone in the audience was booing too, they weren't booing at Rampage. Booo!

I may have called the winner(75% sure Rampage would win), but I would have said like 15% chance of a first round KO. I was thinking more like a 2nd round stoppage due to ground and pound. I was shocked none the less. I went at the last minute to catch the fight at a local sports grill. Some kid in his early 20's was standing with his friends and they kept bumping into me. I was thinking, oh, boy, this guy is looking for a fight. Rampage makes his entrance and he saying, "Gotta' kick this guy's ass." I didn't know if he was for Jackson, or Liddell. Then, Liddell came out and it was clear he was for Liddell. I was thinking that if Liddell loses(as I think he will) this guy is finding someone to vent his frustration on. As I thought that, a group of Rampage supporters show up 8 feet away. Moving ahead, BAM! Chuck goes down, and it is stopped. Now, this guy is cursing and later he gives the monitor the finger as Rampage accepts the belt. The next thing I know this hothead is in a clinch with one of the Rampage supporters and working their way out the door. Needless to say it was broken up by staff. I am just glad I wasn't involved. At my age it is off to jail. It was fun to watch it with other people, though. You could feel the tension in the room at the stare down. It felt like a bomb was ready to go off in the building.

Yeah, now the people that used to watch dog fights can really come out of the shadows.
