Ufc

Sick wins by Prochazka, Max and Pereira.

Starting a firefight with Max is never gonna end well first Korean Zombie now Gatheje they way he just folded like an accordion.

Pereira another scary dude the way he stopped Herb Dean from intervening due to a kick to the cup then flattening Hill.

The striking display by Pereira was beyond masterful. The most amazing part was that for about a minute before the knockout, he was smirking because he had Hill’s timing figured out.

Pereira literally blocked all of Hill’s punches and kicks casually for a minute then knocked him out. He actually caught two of Hill’s punches with his hand during that sequence.

Chiesa subs Ferguson middle of the 1st, take down attempt immediately into body lock and that was all she wrote. Looks like Tony might be done, had kind of a send off post-fight but said he’s going to talk with his family and decide if he finishes or not. Doesn’t want to fight outside the UFC

Seems a few people think Tom will get the upset
I’d pick Tom too. Not doubting Jones ability. Peak for peak. Pound for pound. It’s Jones all day.

Jones is a natural light heavy weight. And he hasn’t fought a true heavyweight yet. Not sure how he’d fare.
He’s also past his prime. Getting on a bit now.

Jones I think is no doubt the better fighter, but like you said LHW and older. Tom I think gives him an awakening, esp w his speed and finishing.

But, who knows, they said the same thing about Ciryl Gane. I remember hearing so much hype about Gane’s speed at his size and his footwork and he got trounced. Only reason I’m really leaning Tom is because of intangible stuff. When I see and hear him talk about this fight just gives off so much calculated, but honest confidence that I legitimately believe what he says.

Good card yesterday, guys I was rooting for went 0/4, and it wasn’t the most drama filled or exciting sequences, but I still enjoyed it. Thought fight quality was good. Outside the Ferguson fight.

I thought Chito Vera and Figuiredo was really interesting, big implications for the division and while Deivison won every round I felt, the rounds were all close. Chito still never been knocked out or submitted. Doesn’t tire, one tough SOB, I’m a fan. Deivison power def there, did better than I thought he would tbh, I feel like he might fight Cory Sandhagen next.

Magomedov was decent too. Can’t spell his opponents name, but pirate won every round and while it wasn’t super close and felt the other dude wasn’t in the running at any point, but he did keep going after a lot of damage which put on a show so credit to him. It let the fight be a proper fight, and it was a decent showcase of Pirate’s striking overall.

Nurmagomedov v Sandhagen what can I say, it was fantastic. Again, felt like Umar won every round but all the rounds were close. Nurmagomedov title shot next? Looks legit. Sandhagen impressive defense wrestling, rolled out of them nicely. Just outclassed really. High level stuff, classy guys

Don't follow UFC BTW. Have a bit but limited knowledge.

I do keep an eye on the state of the divisions a bit but Boxing is my thing.

Boxing was my thing. UFC has now taken over. Soo much better. I’ll tell you why:

-The best fight the best. No ducking of fights. No.1 fights no.2. Dana makes sure of that in 95% of the cases. Boxing you have to wait a decade before the big fights.
-Less corrupt. Literally judges get paid off in boxing events nearly every other event. It’s a joke now. UFC has its moments but a lot better.
-Events are run better and more organised. Timings are better.
-No 20 minute waits before a fight and then another 20 minute ring walk like boxing has.
-1 champion per division. Not 4 different belts. What do we have, WBA, WBC, WBO and IBF in boxing? Give me a break. Just one belt, one true championship. Not 20 champions for a weight class.
I could go on…

Alex Pereira is being protected by Dana though. They don't put him up against anyone who could beat him

Rountree is the only guy I can really think of, everyone else has been pretty acceptable imo. Strickland became champ after losing, Izzy is clearly very good despite the following two losses as he almost beat Alex in the first (saved by bell) and beat him in the second, Jiri was champ (or interim), I can’t remember, and a lot of people thought he could beat Alex in the second fight. Same thing with Jamahal.

Anyone who's primarily a striker is going to have a hard time beating Pereira. I have yet to see him fight against a good grappler

That’s true, and no doubt the whole Rountree/Ankalaev situation is a misstep, but really there’s just not many high ranked grapplers in Middle and LHW. I mean look at the boards its strikerville. Who would you have put him with that was reasonable? Glover was going out when he was coming in but even then he never would’ve taken that fight

I am slowly getting into UFC. I can see the appeal.

Khamzat doing Khamzat things. Wonder if he’ll finally get given credit.
Usually an excuse comes after every fight from the haters.
Title shot next

We'll finally get Pereira vs Ankalaev!

I'm thinking there's a 60% chance Ankalaev wins this

He didn't really need to, the guy is an elite striker. Big props to him for getting the win
Completely didn’t predict this at all.
I didn’t think he could strike with Alex but he proved me and a lot of people wrong.

Very impressed. Good change up to the division.

At least jones can’t ask for Alex now. Must fight Tom.

He will never fight Tom. Everything since Reyes (a fight he lost) has been about bypassing his decline phase at LHW whilst soft-landing into retirement by taking favourable match-ups at HW to avoid incurring legacy damage.

There will be a negotiating breakdown like there was vs Francis. It's not happening.

Can see this happening also. Just wasting Toms career right now

Kooky as this may sound, I believe it’s likelier that Jones will accept the fight to allay suspicion and pull out with some ailment than actually step in the octagon with him.

Likeliest outcome is that they never make ANY kind of progress booking it and he retires, but anything is more plausible than fighting Aspinall at this point. He is just not behaving like a guy that wants that fight and I don’t think it’s a negotiating tactic. Guy is in meter 95 of the race and will not take any big risks (don’t think any version of Jones would be favoured against Aspinall though tbh).
