Most of these are effective, just very odd. Which is the ugliest in your opinion?

HONORABLE MENTIONS:
Andy Roddick-didn't include him cos he's retired now
Battistone Brothers: Horrible motion, but they're not really relevant tbh.

I was going to say Bartoli but I realised that this is for the ATP. 2009 Nadal serve is pretty ugly too. I don't like Gasquet's and Wawrinka's as well as Ferrer's (together with the rest of his strokes).

Ferrer's gor a very classic pinpoint service motion, so I wonder what the hell you've got against it. Given what I read in the poll, I believe you put it not because it actually is ugly, but just because you don't like it.

And seriously on the WTA, once you've seen the likes of Razzano serving, you're never going to mention Bartoli ever again.

I like Roddick's motion. It has that simplicity that makes it nice. Toss and whack, next point. Dolgopolov is very fluid. Gasquet's is textbook but with an abbreviated toss, so it's fine too. Don't see the problem with Berlocq or Kohlschreiber either.

Guess it would be Volandri out of them all. It's seriously no contest. But it works for him.

What´s wrong with Stan´s? It´s just a very simple service motion. I like it a lot actually.

Unfair for Kohlschreiber to be on this list imo, looks like OP was trying to reach a little bit. Go look at a video of Volandri's serve on youtube and you'll see why Kohlschreiber's inclusion on this poll is laughable when there's so many worse degrees of ugly out there.

ferrer has a beatifull and fluid service motion albeit not extremely powerful due to his height.

I like wawrinkas serve too

There's nothing wrong with their serves; the question was which serves I found ugliest, and that's pretty subjective. Did "ugly" become an objective question overnight, that you'd say it's not ugly and I just don't like it?

For instance, if some people actually find Serena Williams attractive, I think I can get away with thinking that Ferrer's serve is ugly. It just looks very workman-like, and forced that trophy position, which I guess fits in with the rest of Ferrer's strokes (which I also find ugly) just fine.

Edit: and what on earth did you have for breakfast for that attitude?

Roddick MOST DEFINITELY shouldn't be on this lest. I gotta go with Florian Mayer not as the "ugliest" but the strangest. And personally I like Dolgopolov's! lol

Kohlschreiber may have a good serve but his wind-up is about as WTA-ish as you can get outside of Mayer.

The two who have no place on this list are Ferrer and Dolgopolov. Both have completely fine, effective serves without any ugly nuances.

The guy who wrote this poll has a strange idea of aesthetics.

I know he's not a current player, but in a thread about ugly serves Karsten Braasch just has to be mentioned.

Agreed, I didn't wanna name off a whole bunch of players though and look like I was trashing the OP's poll :D I respectfully disagree that Kohlschreiber's wind-up is WTA-ish, I mean compare what happens after his tossing arm goes up (*the second time* lol) to what happens in Tomic's serve (ultimate WTA serve). I think it's more the way Kohly rocks back into his serve that makes it look funny, but it doesn't really have a bearing on the actual motion (since he staggers his tossing arm). If I had to reach for a fault it is maybe that he lingers at the trophy pose for a tad too long.

Thanks for all the replies guys, some interesting opinions! A lot of you have mentioned WTA players, so just for fun I'm gonna create another thread on that right now :)

Yet another vote for Volandri.

Gasquet shouldn't be on this list. Simple compact motion which he gets good power with.

Philipo Volandri.

What is really funny, is that he managed to beat peak Federer with that serve.
