Could be Rotterdam plays peculiar or something, it always has a ****load of upsets.

But yeah this is just terrible from him as well. Krajicek should just refuse to pay the check tbh

Let's not go crazy here, Ded Dick... it was a fairly close match.

You just post a link to an Indian website... Did you forget again you're supposed to be a 40-something man living in Northern California?

He had a 20-match winning streak, so I'd say so.
Yeah but I mean is anyone surprised that he lost the AO Final and followed it with this loss? I'm not. At all. Medvedev's chances in the AO Final were massively overhyped here at TTW as it always is when people are so desperate to see someone new win a slam (in a full draw).

And this isn't a hindsight 20/20 thing for me. I was saying his chances were overhyped starting at the QF's or SF's at least. He is simply an overrated player, at least here on this particular site.

It was everywhere. Not a "TTW" thing.

I don't agree here. A small minority here thought he could win.

Yes, and another 80% of them were excited for a close match. Not a 3 set beatdown. So if 10% thought he could win and another 80% expected a close match that leaves 10% of us that were correct. And normally I don't like bragging, but I'm happy I was in that 10%.

I just can't believe people here are surprised at the total ineptitude of the next gen. Like have you just started following tennis this year?
I meant I also thought Djoke would win.

Anyway I was wrong... from the poll here, 55% voted for Medvedev to win AO Final.

To me he looked like the newly ranked player no. 3 in the world who was expecting an easy win and lost his marbles when he didn’t. This will teach him a lesson.

Says the chief "Mad Lad" hype man. ;)
In his defense look at the bookies odd before the final. It was 51 vs 49% something like that for Novak.
Honestly the odds were far closer than Novak vs THiem or Novak vs anyone really.
And bookies are usually accurate.

I think Medvedev had a lot of people fooled by his WTF run and his 20 match winning streak.
But here's the thing - Medvedev had a similar string in 2019 as well. But then he bombed out afterwards.
He has some SERIOUS TECHNICAL DEFICIENCIES in his game because of which he will not be an all surface player dominating year round.

Expected loss in very slow HC conditions. (At least predictable that it wouldn't take long for him to get outplayed, if not the particular opponent.)

Always felt like lot of top players are tired from the AO and come play here half-heartedly, mostly to pick up their paychecks

I think it's definitely a week or two too early. Especially with the quarantine when players are less fit than they normally are this time of the year.

He also went off the rails the last time he played Lajovic, up 5-1 in the 1st set of MC 19 SF, only to lose 12 of the last 13 games.

Medvedev has a very very flat stroke action. Especially on his forehand.
He excels on the courts where the bounce is lower and the court is relatively faster. As soon as the surface is slower and the ball bounces high, Medvedev has TROUBLE with his swing - especially on the forehand side and he makes a lot of errors on balls up high.
Another important thing: Medvedev has a tough time generating his own pace. He is comfortable redirecting pace. On a slower surface when you have to generate your own pace, he struggles with that. Nor does he have spin to control his groundies and move his opponent laterally.
Because of these reasons - he is DREADFUL on clay.

IMO - he could still be good to decent on grass.

It’s amazing he is the number 3 in the world without clay success. A #3 who hasn’t won a single match at the French. I wasn’t surprised to see him lose in Rotterdam the way the court is playing.
