Ulnar Impaction Syndrome (UIS) - treatment options?

Hello everyone,

I'm looking for treatment options as I was diagnosed with UIS in January. I have already read all the topics here on this forum and googled a lot.

A little about me, I'm 35 years old and have been playing tennis for 20 years. Last year I played 3-4 times a week and had no problems at all, the whole year.
I'm a pretty solid player (LK12 in Germany) and also a tennis coach in my club. That's why an operation is out of the question. Also because I've heard of many cases where it didn't work out.

In January I had a lot of pain in my wrist and went to the hospital where I was diagnosed with UIS. I took 2 months off and started occupational therapy. I still do the therapy once a week.

Right now, serving and returning the ball comes with immense pain.
The good news is that as long as I can extend my arm and don't have to twist my wrist too much, it's totally fine, just a little pain. Topspin is also no problem. But after hitting a few balls, I have to rest for a few days. Otherwise, the pain comes right back and I have to take 2 weeks off.

I could cry day and night. I feel very frustrated and would do anything to get better. No matter what it costs ;)

______________________________

Some people online have written that it can be triggered by other problems, such as
- pinched nerve
- Spinal misalignment

Does anyone here have experience with this?

I have also been to a physical therapist a few times, but nothing has changed.

Is there anyone who can give me tips on what else I can try or look up/test?

Thanks for anything that can help.

Tobias

Does this kind of brace help?

My occupational therapist told me that it wouldn't help in my case.
I'm working with kinesio tape now. (Wrist) Which is helping me. But both won´t stop the wrist movement, which is unavoidable.

Thank you for your help.

Kinesio tape is not even good placebo

I'd still encourage you to do the tests here and rule out a TFCC tear

Hi Gas,
I ordered it and tried it yesterday. My problems came back in 10 minutes after a 2 week break.

So frustrating...

Hello again,

Maybe this information will be relevant to someone.

I had to have a "3 Tesla MRT" - it's the best MRT you can get.
After that I had a talk with a doctor who told me that my ulna is longer than normal, but not too long *yey*.

She also told me that UIS is extremely rare and more of a misconception. Mostly there are other problems.

I had an arthroscopy last week. My LT band, Ligamentum lunotriquetrale, was partially torn. This was repaired. They also removed some nerve tissue and I have a small cut in my bone between the elle and the spoke.

I can start playing tennis again in 4-6 weeks - full recovery takes about 8-12 weeks, which is more than I dreamed. :giggle:
