Could the ultimate end up being Big Spin mains & Hit Pro crosses?
I’ve tried big spin mains, ghost wire crosses twice and have loved it. I strung this combo for a singles match yesterday and played well. The first time I used this combo I do feel like the crazy spin from BS dropped somewhat quick but it remained comfortable and playable for a long time. Do others feel a quick spin drop with Big Spin or was it in my head?

Luxilon 4g is very tempting and inspiring :) Not sure about the comfort level or value. Added the string to my maybe list :) I am interested how others would rank 4g in the "A" group of round profiles. I think we need more references because dropping the name of a string simply won't make it convincing enough. Reference is everything and I will try to review each string that way :)
it’s my favorite string so far in my very limited play testing. durable tension and consistent feel and control

hwve you tried Black Knight ?

can you compare 4g and original ?

I havent tried Black Knight but I know it deserves to be on the list. Just limiting my funds for a while. Its on my "maybe list" . Some guys already said that its a very nice string but didnt offer them something "extra". I believe @topspn can be your guy. He decided to go with Mayami Tour Hex over Tier 1 Black Knight. More control and bite. I usually agree with everything he says :)

He used to play with angell but decided to sell it so there are some loopholes in his statements xD

lol..BK is undoubtedly a very worthy string. It really just does everything well so all around predictability is good. Good spin, good feel, good control, consistent and longevity is aright. It is a very good bargain considering the price. It just is doesn't have a certain feature that it is great at. I find different racquets sometimes need different strings to bring out the best in them.

I can’t compare BBO and 4G. Only 4G and 4G Soft accurately, and ALU Power Rough to an extent. 4G Soft might be slightly more muted. Both have great tension maintenance, Soft possibly a little better. ALU Power I played in a different racquet that is 16x19 and much lighter, but it was a nice string. Did not last as long as 4G but it was a good string from what I remember. I think I like 4G more but I need to try ALU Power in my 18x20 331g racquet

@galapagos Which one do you prefer between Lux BBO and Head Lynx Tour?
both will enter my second round of testing where I will play again with only my favourite strings.
I could probably put all 7.0 + strings but I will narrow it to:

1. Head Lynx Tour
2. Signum Pro Firestorm
3. Luxilon Original
4. Tourna Silver 7 Tour
5. Mayami Hit Pro
6. Mayami Tour Hex
7. Mayami Big Spin
8. Luxilon Alu Power
9. ?????????
10. ????????

looks like 7.2 rating is the entry cap for my string of choice for this season and upcoming hard court season...

But to answer your question (difficult one!) :

My overall impression is that Lynx Tour is a shaped version of Original. I strung Original at 25kg/23 kg just like Verdasco used to on some racquets. This tension was too high for me at first but when it dropped a bit Original opened up and showed me how good it is. With Lynx Tour I strung it 24kg/23kg and it was great from the start - almost because the performance on backhand was a bit too dead for my liking so I will try it again but this time 24kg/22kg and same for Original) ...

Unless you suggest a bit different tension. I would like to open up a bit the stringbed of Lynx Tour without messing too much with the power. Thats why I want to keep 24kg but lower the tension of crosses. Hopefuly more spin potential and better grab on backhand.

I can get a Lynx Tour for a bit better price. Its a small factor but I keep it in mind :)

My biggest issue so far with Lynx Tour is the heavier weight (2 grams more on average)

Black Knight

I just strung a sample set of 17G black knight but how would I know which I should get a reel of, 16G or 17G?
There are a few things to consider when selecting a string gauge (feel, ball pocketing, power/control, arm friendliness..,) but one of the most important factors is durability. We generally recommend going down by one gauge if the thicker gauge does not break within the first 15 hours of playing time. As a general guideline, poly strings lose their playability and become harsh on the arm after about 10-12 hours of play.

Hope that helps!

From what I’ve seen toroline and grapplesnake dont have 1.30 gauge. Tier one is on my priority list :)
There used to be the sampler for half off. I remember paying $33.32 for a 7 string sample pack a few weeks ago but it’s like $67 now, almost the price of a reel

Pretty incredible. Still after a few weeks (3-4) 4G soft is still at 55 lbs from 59lbs. Tested using TennisTension

We have to be sensitive what information we post due to TW rules but if you refer to our 7 set sample package purchased at a discount $67 is not the correct price.

At least from this image, it doesn't look like it is silver.

this Black knight string seem to be gaining popularity super fast. Is this string spin friendly ? my main interest in poly is Spin and some decent feel. Also this comes in 17 G and 18 G. which is better ?
From all the reviews I've read it seems the main traits is consistency and comfort. It's a 6-sided profile string but feels very smooth. It might have worse "bite" yet I know that pronounced shapes can limit the snapback !

What

what you like in poly tour pro and what racquet are you using ?

tension maintenance for me is good, it's got decent pop, control and I think soft at 63lbs, I use a multi as a cross so it doesn't notch the ptp in the mains, ptp at 63lbs plays much softer than cyclone and hyperg at 63lbs for me. I actually think it swings much lighter that other polys when in the racket, I don't have a swingmeter but I can definitely tell it's a lighter string when swinging. Unfortunately that's all subjective info but there's a large enough ptp user base that might agree with me

I guess the tier one sampler pack is $40 with the “sweetdeal” code, word on the street

got to play with Strike Force RIP and Black Knight today a little bit. Tried Strike Force first and it had noticeably more power than black knight and 4G soft. Black Knight was closer to 4G Soft in characteristics. I couldn’t control Strike Force at first so I switched to 4G soft racquet, did better, then I tried out Black Knight and played similarly. Then I switched back to Strike Force and did better with the increased power and launch angle of Strike force Rip

You might want to consider Firewire BOOST if you are looking for extra ball bite!
Yes but i haven't heard anything about that string ,, it could be horrible in control or power. I have to have everything with spin potential being primary driver. It must also have good power and also great control as well.

Your mission is to create a poly that has same spin potential as solinco confidential or better, and just as much power as Alu power, and same control as black knight. are you going to accept the mission ?(y)
Yeah, we totally understand. We will have some string samples of a new experimental poly within the next 3 weeks. Hopefully those samples we cover all those bases :)

I think I found out why. I just tested my racquet that has Strike Force and it's at 48lbs. Same with the Black Knight. Not letting that kid string my racquets again lol. Will see what this low tension hubbub is all about though

Well since I don’t swing like a maniac, I string full poly at a high of 48. Alu has a cleaner and crisper contact while still being comfortable but better feel than PTP. But hey, use what you like.

For me I don’t swing like a maniac but I find the lower tensions pop my ball out more often as opposed to higher

You guys seem to make great products, why don't you promote yourselves more? Get your products reviewed and listed on tennis retailers like TW. There are hardly any reviews on youtube, send free sampler packs to youtubers and tell them to give honest reviews: good or bad, no strings (unintentional pun) attached.

business model :) but when it comes to reviews there is one very positive:

If i remember it correctly (yes, too lazy to watch again) - in short words -great price, value, feel, consistency, spin is ok but it feels more like a round than shaped. Correct me if I am wrong :)

You are spot on about the review. I feel like if TW reviewed and gave scores and the string database details etc it would be a lot easier to compare their strings to other brands.
The business model part, TW will probably take commision for sales but I guess the massive increase in exposure and accessibility for consumers would be a major boost in sales. I honestly feel tier one could become a serious player in this space, they need to work on the marketing and accessibility.

I think that TW are in the position where they dont have to do anything :) They are so big that they will let only big players enter the table which is also good in some ways i guess. Brands need to earn their spot. Product is one thing but marketing is another. You can have a very fast car but without the driver its nothing. But sometimes you just have to be lucky. Right place, right time.

Tier one, Mayami, Toroline, some other brands I dont remember right now - they are a bit underdogs. Tennis players are mostly traditionalists so once they are hooked they just keep buying it. TW forum members are exception xd That's why its hard to replace the position of the other brand above.

I see Tier One website demo package deal and there is kinda a FAQ question answered:
"Is the 40% discount a scam?"

Also with Mayami people are kinda sceptical only because they are from Ukraine despite the fact that they have some pro players on tour using their strings. There is kinda that common belief that good strings are made only in Germany , USA and Belgium ?
This only shows how difficult the market is. Or maybe - how hard its to convince to something new.

to summarize: people are crazy and very fussy :)

Hi Galapagos. I like the Signum Pro line, having very good luck with both the Xperience and Micronite. I just ordered a reel of their new Polaris string from across the pond., which I haven't seen sold by anybody yet in North America, so may have one of the few reels in the US right now. Expect that here sometime this week. They bill it as very much like Firestorm but with a little more power. I'd love to do a side by side comparison with Firestorm, and have a pair of identical test racquets (Head Gravity Tour) coming up shortly for restringing. If you or anyone else is interested in trades, I'm willing to part with 12 m chunks of this. I have 18 x 20 racquets and very rarely break strings, so this is in the 1.20 mm size. Any interest?

Firestorm is already on a thin line of being slightly too powerful for me. Its comfy, it grabs well, its STILL control oriented but more power? I dont need more power. Interesting thing ,so the feel of firestorm is soooo good and comfortable that I am afraid nothing will feel good enough after that ;p Comfort is important for me but the performance even more I think so still a lot of hope for the other 7.2 and 7.3 strings...

Totally misunderstood your post. Got my hopes high that you're going to have samples for public consumption in 3 weeks. Feeling somewhat deflated now...
Sorry if we were not clear. Yes, we will have samples for the public within the next couple of weeks. But from the time we start testing samples to the point where we actually provide a final product to the public takes time. We want to make sure to offer a product that is consistent with the quality of all our other products.

Time for another string review- Tecnifibre Red Code 1.30 !

Wohoo , this string is cool ! What makes it special ? Comfy feel but at the same time ultimate control.

I admit that this is not my first experience with Red Code. I used it in many other racquets: Blade, Pro staff 95 S , Angell TC95 18x20, Head IG prestige mp, Yonex Ezone.... It's a great round profile string that is very honest with you but at the same time not brutal.

Interesting thing is that in my life I had few setups (specific racquet+ string) that offered me BIGGEST spin ever. One setup was Pro Staff 95 S with Red Code, another was IG prestige MP with Red Code, another was IG Speed MP (18x20) with Alu Power, and another was with Ezone Dr 98 + Alu Power Rough.

No other setups offered me more spin with still so much control. Maybe TC95 16x19 with Mayami Big Spin or Volkl Cyclone.

So, why this is not my ultimate string ? Well it's because as you may notice, this magic combination was used with low SW racquets and the magic kinda disappeared with my higher SW racquets and overall I prefer my current specs (spin is not always everything). It was still my main choice in my 18x20 TC95 SW 335 but now switched to 16x19 pattern.

It is a control oriented string (it made 16x15 pattern play like a tight 16x19) and offers great connection with the ball. The feel is really addictive and I think that if Tecnifibre offered this string in some other color options then it might be more popular than it is currently.

It is control oriented but definitely not dead/boardy. This is a magic combination for every round string. It usually means that the string is responsive without trampoline effect (more spin but still amazing control).

The response consistency is at the top lvl ! I think that the consistency is even better than Alu Power and definitely hold tension longer (better value). Alu Power (blue) on the other hand plays a bit better in my higher SW racquets. If we compare prices then Red Code is the winner :)

I give this string a 7.1 rating. The value is great, it performs amazingly in lighter racquet setups , in heavier sticks I think I would prefer something even more bite or less power. Its a great tournament string with amazing touch. One of the best round string on the market and very comfortable for the control it offers. I am not a big fan of red color. May suit racquets like Prestige MP, Dunlop CX200 tour, Radical MP, Yonex Vcore Pro, Wilson Pro Staff. SW between 310-323. Just my opinion :)

say hello on IG ! (y) @dandan.tennis
