Umpires considering boycott of Serena's matches

Serena should go out publicly and apologize to Ramos. How are people not discussing the fact that she was accusing the guy for being a sexist without any sort of ground to go on or proof? That is serious allegations. The guy was following the rules. Disgraceful to put out that card and put someone on the spot publicly in that way. Ramos has a family, close ones etc and I'm sure he doesn't want to be talked about in that manner in the media.

Serena should go down on her knees and apologize to the guy for the amount of damage she has done to him.
I agree, but Serena will not do it. She is fanatically convinced of her truth.

If Ramos is being subjected to abuse because he did his job then there's something wrong here but the abuse Carlos was subjected to hasn't been via Serena it's been via the media in the US calling him a sexist thief which he isn't, he's a veteran, seasoned umpire who does his job relatively professionally.

Storm in a teacup and it'll be sorted out amicably in due course, it always does. We can move on, hold hands and sing love songs together.
True but Serena did say "I'm fighting for women's rights" in her press conference with regards to the incident which does imply somewhat that Ramos was being sexist.

This is such a cop-out. You can’t make stupid arguments, have them refuted, and then get out of them saying you’re tired of the discussion. Come to terms with the fact that you were wrong about the rules and the truth. Yes, Williams deserved all the violations according to the rulebook. Yes, Ramos enforces the rules with the men, too. And yes, you are not facing up to your own mistake of calling Ramos a liar, a thief, and a sexist just because he docked Serena Williams a game and a point for her infantile behavior. I guess I’m starting to understand why you’re a Serena Williams fan.
True! I didn’t know the rules. I didn’t know players were responsible for the bahavior of their coaches. I didn’t read the ATP rule book. I take it back, Ramos is Neither thief nor a liar in the Serena match.

When can umpires deduct games though? Has Ramos ever deducted a whole game from for exempel Nadal? Because despite 2 warnings Rafa continues to go over the time limit? How come Ramos never deducted games from him?
He’s officiated many of his matches and Rafa does the same thing over and over again.

Btw, it’s a freakin’ tennis forum. People can stop participating whenever they want. When somebody refuses to answer or participate, just think of it as if you’ve proved them wrong. Just because I’m a fan of Serena doesn’t mean i want to talk, dress or behave like her. You are taking this way too seriously.

And again, you don't know the rules.

Time violations are different from code violations.

If he were to keep getting time violations, each subsequent time violation would result in a loss of serve (so he would lose his first serve) or a single point penalty

I just said in my previous post that I didn’t know the rules, didn't I?

So now that you’ve explained the rules, how many times has Nadal lost a first serve or a point in matches officiated by Ramos?

Oh, you want me to do the research for the data you want?

Sure, I'll get right on that.

Well I’m sure PM wanted to achieve something, that’s why he did it. The more important question here is, “did Serena ask for it”? If she did, then she cheated, if she did not, then she did not cheat. That’s why the umpire should have thrown out PM out of the stadia, because he cheated.

What Ramos should have said was: “Serena, you did not cheat but your coach did! So now I will throw him out of the stadium or deduct a game from you because he is your coach”.
Murotoglou, or what the heck his name precisely is, should have known better. Getting those signals up on the big screen and in the eyes of Ramos, he had really no choise, but to invoke the rule in question. It is really irrelevant, whether Serena asked for it or didn’t see it. All others did.

I think, all players and people at the player’s box knows, what is allowed and what not. And it is the player’s responsibility to take the medicine, if his or her team broke rules during a match.

It is defenately impossible to tell, if Tennis princess asked for guidance or not and if she followed the given advice. Had she behaved like a professional and an adult, she’d eat it and not smash the racket and more so would’n have blown her lid on the umpire after getting a point penalty, but play the best she could. Now she jumped him and got third penalty, a game this time.

It wasn’t probably the calls by Ramos, that got her into the state, but her poor performance against a young talented player, who dictated the match. Look at the stats, The former champion, now a mother too, was basically a hack against her opponent.

My oppinion on this rant is, that Serena truly got, what she asked for. If you, or your team cannot play by the rules book, go home and upbring your kids to best of your knowledge and beliefs. But keep in mind, what you believe is right isn’t allways the same as the rules define being right.

Arguing with the rules in a championship match has no grounds, what so ever. You attend the tournament and know or at least should know, which sport you compete in. If the rules are in conflict, you still have to go by them and talk about changing them after the competition is over.

Don’t bother! With all Nadal’s time wasting in all his matches you wont find Ramos giving him point deductions. Maybe once.

Maybe he is not a sexist but he is a coward against someone like Nadal. And if time wasting is cheating, then he allowed cheating at least 50 times everytime he officiate Nadal’s matches. Now if he allows Nadal to cheat against his opponents, then he is stealing opportunisties from Nadal’s opponents. He robs them of money and chances to win titles. Everytime he say game set match Nadal, he is a liar!

you're correct about the OP.

sure fire way to garner accolades is to stroke the egos of cons/alt-right types who hate Serena with a passion is by posting negative news about her.

I'm pretty sure tons of people complain (on this board and even on TV sometimes) about how much time Nadal takes in between points.

However, none of that has any bearing on what happened with Serena.

Bros before hoes. :D

Seriously though, didn't the game penalty come after the berating though? I don't recall Nadal ever calling Ramos a thief and a liar. I don't even think those words are part of Rafa's vocabulary. HAHA

I love BB like a brother (almost) and told him long ago that if he's in Chicago, I'd treat to a gin and tonic. But here, he's just stretching. But that's in his nature, you have to accept that.

The whole SW matter leaves a sour taste.

I am so mad at Serena for highjacking the match. However, it's been a few days and the most annoying thing without a doubt are all of these people that know absolutely NOTHING about tennis that continue to say the most ridiculous things about the match.

Fools saying that Shapo threw his raquet at the umpire. other stupid things that never happened.

Now there is a group calling for umpires to boycott Nalbandian and Shapovalov matches. These stupid fools don't even realize that David N. retired a number of years ago! I just can't.

Good luck mr. Ramos.

I didn’t say nobody complains about Nadal on these boards.

He did what was right for Serena but Nadal can blatantly ignore his warnings and he does nothing about it. So don’t tell me he treats everyone equally.

Yes it did, and I already conceded Ramos was right in the Serena case. However people in here claim he treats everyone equally. He clearly doesn’t, and Rafa is A prime example of that.

Rafa is lovable, Serena is abominable. The angriest I've seen Rafa he doesn't even remotely stack up to baseline annoyed Serena.

I like Nadal but he pulled the same nonsense in 2015 against C.Bern. No one should get to blackball a ref. Both Rafa and Serena should have been been temp suspended for trying to influence the Refs by threatening to blackball.

Come on. You’re usually one of the better posters; this is just sad.

You sound like the SJW media trying to spin this with ‘everybody coaches’ and deflecting from the reality. They’re a ‘team’ - he’s her coach. It’s on her - she employs him. And it’s probably the first time it’s been called in a major final - but it’s been called regularly during the year, for a long time.
Another post quoted 11 coaching violations on the women's side and either 8 or 9 on the men's side during the USOPEN 2018, so it is definitely being called on both sides.

With regard to whether she knew he was doing it or not? He has been her coach since 2012- 6 years. I am sure she knows what his different gestures mean. I guess we could fault them both for not working out more complex/hidden gestures like other players do, but to say she didn't know he was coaching is a blatant lie. Also remember that at one time PM and SW were a couple, not just a coach/player.

Don’t bother! With all Nadal’s time wasting in all his matches you wont find Ramos giving him point deductions. Maybe once.

The lack of consistent enforcement of this rule is the whole reason that the shot clock was introduced. I believe it was first introduced at the CitiOpen in D.C. and it has been used to help bring Djoker and Nadal into more of the norm. I wonder why players don't just throw up a toss and catch it to reset the clock, but to be honest that would drive me crazy... so I am glad they don't.

Last comment, doesn't Ramos look a lot like Mr. Bean?
