Umpire's folly

Mark-Touch

Legend
OK this comes up time and time again.
It just happened right now.
First serve is called out.
Umpire isn't sure so they get out of their chair to check the line.
If they do that there NEEDS be a rule that states, if the call is judged to be IN or OUT, the server must get their first serve again.

Reason?
Well if they see the ball was actually in then a first serve is obviously in order as the server was robbed of the first serve play.

If they see the ball was in fact out, then a first serve is also in order as the server was robbed of their all-important service rhythm. A double-fault is much more likely for a server who's had their rhythm interrupted.

It's one thing for an umpire to get out of their chair to check a mark for a point that is over. It is quite another thing for them
to get out of their chair to check a mark for a ball in the MIDDLE of a serve (1st and 2nd) where they and only they, are responsible for
the disruption of the server's rhythm.

Now if the server asks the chair to check the mark, that's a different story and none of this should apply.

nadal loves to disrupt the rhythm of the server using "the force." No need for this rule.
