'Unbearable' 27C heat leads Bernard Tomic to quit mid-match

I knew either Tomic or Kyrgios would tank, knowing they would face each other in the next round, and then probably Djokovic in the round after.

It's a clash of tanking titans in that section

Does he m*****bate a lot? Its as if he's breaking down losing his stamina like a candle that burns away.

Australian tennis, never a boring moment!

I feel like Kokkinakis is the last honest Aussie tennis player out of the bunch. He has been set back by injuries and that is bad. He has a great personality, that much I can say.

Nick is a disgrace of a player, Tomic is a massive tanker, and Hewitt is retired (so he doesn't really count). Groth is not even able to break into the higher echelon of the ATP, and Australia still has young players trying to make a name for themselves.

I don't know whether to laugh or be angry at such a stupid fellow...

This guy is young, obviously talented (yes: being within the top-50 worldwide in any job means that you have a least a bit of talent, to put it mildly), enjoys the cars and the birds, and what does he do???
f u ck - it - up, in a 'glorious' manner.

Really, you'd wish these kind of guys would be designated to forever be condemned to flip hamburgers to get their meagre monthly pay...

Of course, nobody considers Tomic might have mental health issues, known or undiagnosed. Tanking or just quitting a match for a seemingly small reason could be a sign of depression or anxiety.

Not that I expect many people on here to fathom that, but still.. thought I'd mention it.

Expect Nike not to renew his contract unless he gets a silly haircut like Kyrgios.
Yep, at some point his sponsors are going to going to decide the negatives outweigh the positives, and they will just pull the plug.
He'll sit up and take notice then I bet. Like a punch to the face.
Literally the only reason nike will be sponsoring him is as a walking billboard, as he is useless as a brand ambassador in every other capacity.

Well, I do, especially since he appears to have a total d o u c h e b a g of a dad - but still, at a certain point, the Alarm Bell should be ringing, even with Tomic.
Unfortunately, mental issues are still looked at as being some kind of 'craziness', and as such not always taken seriously, including by the patient himself in many cases.

Tomic may well have a mental health issue. A mental health issue can be a rational response to your circumstances. Like being a professional tennis player with no interest in being a professional tennis player but not knowing what else you want to do. Tomic seems to lack direction. If he wants to quit tennis he should do so and find his next path in life.

I was re-watching the 91 FO final on TC+ the other night between 21 year old Agassi and 20 year old Courier and it was really interesting because both guys just seemed so poised, mature, professional, and mentally tough. They both acted like men both on the court and in the post-match interviews.

For me, it really highlighted how coddled the young guys are these days and how much more willing people are to say "Oh he's just a kid". I've even found myself in that mindset sometimes in the last few years when assessing all of these guys coming up but watching that match has firmly shifted my perspective. If you turn 18 and choose to become a professional at something then there's no excuse not to conduct yourself like a professional.

Bernard Tomic’s commitment to tennis is expected to come under the microscope again after the Australian pulled out of his first round match in Acapulco citing “unbearable heat”...

Tomic’s withdrawal without apparent injury appears more questionable given the temperature in Acapulco was 27C (81F) at the time...
but was is a dry 27 C ??? ;)
