Federer, Nadal and Djokovic are extraordinary and they are breaking many ATP records.
But since the records obtained from the old champions must not be forgotten,... and many will be unbeatable for eternity.

Start this thread. The content is to be considered largely incomplete and I ask for help in the compilation.

The two are extremely close and to date there is no definitive confirmation.

What is the name of the Cleveland tournament that Pancho wins 8 times? World Pro Championships?

and.. when was the US Pro played again? From 1963 to Forest Hills and since 1964 to Boston (Longwood) ?

(*) this is a more complicated record because before 1973 there was no ranking, so some years are still the subject of discussion.
While Sampras was number one ATP and recognized best player for 6 years, Gonzalez, Rosewall and Laver record is questionable.
It's hard to say though that
- Gonzalez was not the best player for a number of years <7,
- Laver was not the best player for a number of years < 6.

Since there was no ranking before 1973 there is no sharing on this data.

It's not me. NM presented info in November 2017 that Cleveland did not receive the brand US pro. Another weak tournament organised by USPLTA was called US pro. Cleveland / Lakewood was called World Pro.

FH and Boston were also not US pro. The name was US Pro Grasscourt. In 1964 there was also US pro HC in St. Louis.

So, no US pro after 1951.

Gonzales won 1 authorized U.S. Pro in 1954 at L.A.

The U.S. Pro at Forest Hills in 1951 was authorized by the USPLTA, perhaps also in 1963, Kramer had a good connection with the USPLTA and may have gained acceptance from them, also possibly for 1964 and following at Longwood.

Yeah, but there were only 6 of those animals, so it is not really an event which many players contested over the years.

It's like saying, Kooyong Pro, Hoad with 2....but there were only about three of those.

"Best" is subjective, it depends on who does the rating.

In some years there were official no. 1 players, when there were tournament series where all the pros were involved.
1946, 1959, 1964.

Do you support that few editions have been played?
If I understood correctly ...
This is interesting, a record has value only if a certain number of editions are disputed.

"Best" is subjective, it's true, we discussed it at length, it depends on who makes the evaluation, but since there was no ranking before 1973 all rankings were subjective.
Before 1973 the only possibility is ... assuming that a player has been the best player or if you prefer number one.
It seems to me that Gonzalez can be called number one on at least 7 occasions. But the dissolution is open.

If we are sure that Lendl won an exhibition match in Zurich and not a title ... Lendl won 150 titles.

But JC I don't know has won 151 titles but 150:
