Under the influence.

How much would your game be affected if you drank and were under the influence? Like I drank on saturday and the season starts monday which was a horrible idea but I kind of wanted to because we were celebrating our victory and loses at a break dancing tournament but yeah would I be like horrible or anything?

The alcohol will not be in your system by Monday. That doesn't mean it might not have an effect on your rest and recovery, but it won't be actively affecting your coordination and timing.

Drinking a lot before you go to sleep can mess up your sleep pattern even though it is a depressant. It will tend to cause you to wake during the night and influence your sleep pattern. Also, drinking too much can tax your liver and make it more difficult for your body to recover.

I personally find that being a bit hangover blocks distractions away. Since I have little to no mental energy to spare, I only focus on hitting the ball, and not even bother to keep track of the score.

I like drinking before matches. It keeps me in high spirits while playing.

Well, last weekend was kind of a strange one...I was doing some yard work, enjoying a few beers when my neighbor stops by...and we have another beer. We start talking tennis and agree we should proceed to the courts post haste for a hit. I've never played tennis with this neighbor as they moved in last fall and the winters here are more in line for skiing.

We get to the courts and I realize I'm five beers in for the afternoon. As it turned out, I played pretty darn well! I think I was focusing more on the ball than usual.

The one and only negative effect I could see was that as I got to breathing heavily I wreaked of alcohol. THat got kind of old.

I won't encourage this to anyone, and I cetainly don't see myself slamming 5 beers before my Saturday morning league play, but all in all, I had a hell of a game and could certainly see myself joining in more at the local drop-in "socials"...where they encourage you to enjoy a few adult beverages.

Cheers!

I played once the morning after the night before. Was probably still drunk while on court and it was not a pleasant experience. But I have also played an evening game after a glass of nice red wine, and I felt that helped me relax a little (it certainly didn't affect me adversely).

But long and short, if you get drunk on Saturday night you should be fine by the following Monday.

Two beers on-court and I relax and play fine. Three and I start to get a little loopy. I'm a lightweight these days.

Depends on what tolerance you have. I've never played tennis drunk. Never will. Doesn't take long for me to get drunk as the only alcoholic drink I drink is whiskey. Some people can down alcohol like it's water and carry on fine, I can't walk straight after three drinks so playing tennis isn't even in the conversation.

Played with some guys who would start drinking about an hour before we
were going to finish some matches. I didn't seem to have that much of
an effect for doubles. When I drank it seemed to enhance my focus, kept
me from blasting shots and playing more tactically.

The only time it seemed to have an effect was playing some tough games
during singles as alcohol displaces oxygen in your blood and therefore will
increase the amount of breathes need.

I intend to try cannabis some time with tennis. I've combined small doses with other sports on occasion and have found it to be quite a boost. Just seems to get you right in the zone, both physically and mentally. Time can seem to slow down and the focus can be incredible. Most importantly, it can foster some useful insights into the game.

That said, wouldn't encourage using drugs and sports on a regular basis, as there is the risk of becoming dependent on it to get in the zone.

Agree 100%

Many Sunday night league matches have been played after a day of yard work and chores and more than a few fine ales. Thank goodness the courts are close enough to ride my bike there.

took a nice swig of patron in a social event, played fine, but i was sweating like a pig.

At a club i played at, they have social tennis every wednesday, and everyone drinks wine on changeovers, by third set they are pretty much done

I used to play frequently when I was hungover/still slightly drunk when I was 18-19. I used to play in competitions and tournaments that were on saturday/sunday mornings.

If I was still slightly inebriated I played horribly. You just dont have the same balance/coordination and you cant concentrate
