This one goes beyond the racket control.
The essence of the modern swing is maximizing the SSC. Ironically, this is achieved by doing LESS than a traditional swing.
The serve techniques have not progressed drastically since the onset of the polys. The SSC principles are well understood by good coaches/players.
However drastic changes have taken place in ground strokes. The SSC is maximized by allowing more space for the Stretch to happen. which means plugging the ESR/ISR leaks that are built into the traditional strokes. The end result is -
- you need less time because your doing less;
- you get free, deeper ESR/ISR loading, the better the Stretch, the better the Shortening; and therefore
- free RHS, spin, net clearance.
- easier timing.
A much heavier ball by doing less.
This is general biomechanical talk. Therefore both questions and opinions are welcome.
If the above does not make sense at all... please study up. the game has progressed, so should the knowledge.
