Uniqlo apparel review

We have only seen a few tennis items from Uniqlo and probably there are many people still wondering about Uniqlo items. It might be a good time to review a few things.

Obviously Uniqlo released limited number of items in US and somewhat reason, sold out quickly and never restock anything but other countries had good enough items and several places still have items so “Limited” numbers only apply to US market. The best thing will be buy as soon as possible when Uniqlo releases items especially in US (Both stores and online).

Uniqlo Active apparels are good enough for tennis.
It’s not the best fabric in my opinion but any poly shirts will work well so it’s matter of personal preferences.
Federer and Nishkori uses for practices. Unfortunately Retail versions do not come with uniqlo logos.

Fit and size
Uniqlo sizes are very tricky because there is Asian sizes so if someone buys uniqlo items from Asian countries, one should buy one size bigger. For example Asian size L= US size M. Most of items are similar to current Nike but I am between size so it depends on model. If anyone is interested other uniqlo clothes (outside active apparels), it will be more tricky and depends on clothes. I bought sweater and size is unpredictable. Sometimes fits well with M or M size is bit tight

List of Uniqlo apparels which is good enough for tennis.

DRY-EX CREW NECK SHORT-SLEEVE T-SHIRT
I normally use L size for Nike nowadays but I wear M size for this shirts because bottom opening is wider and fits better with M. L size looks baggy but probably depends on person....

Shorts
Dry-ex shorts
Uniqlo advertised this shorts with Federer and Nishkori but in my opinion, this short is a little thin and flexible. Also Slightly see through. It’s not bad but I am not big fan of this style of shorts
https://www.uniqlo.com/us/en/men-dr...start=64&cgid=men-activewear-pants-and-shorts

Ultra stretch shorts
Slightly above knee length and I like material.
Uniqlo should make this fabric for tennis specific shorts in my opinion. Slightly small pockets but it will hold two balls.

Jacket and pants

Stretch sweat jacket
It’s my favorite.
Honestly I prefer Nike tech fleece jacket but the price is just too good. Slightly thinner than Nike tech fleece jacket.
https://www.uniqlo.com/us/en/men-dr...d=men-activewear#start=21&cgid=men-activewear

Stretch sweat pants
Same. Slightly thinner than Nike tech fleece. Not as good as Jacket but still it’s decent pants.

Ultra stretch active pants
I have not tried but curious about it.

The "airism" stuff from them is fabulous. I haven't been able to play tennis for a long time because I'm pretty much blind in one eye, but I run and weight train on most days. The airism tops and half leggings are fabulous. I absolutely love them. Soft comfortable and I don't look like I've been thrown in a pool after my workout.

Honestly I have not tried Airism products yet because most of them are just base layer which is thin or just casual items which is not good for playing tennis.
Probably if uniqlo makes this fabric for tennis, they can make slightly thicker and slightly stiffer. Airism fabric has softer feel which is good but it might expose body line too much so it will be great for fitting person but anyone who has belly...
It will look like Michelin mascot hahaha
Hope this doesn't deleted because of the Uniqlo links.
I was too lazy to post pics instead of link haha.
If they remove I might try with pics ^_^
Links aren't actually to anything TW would really be in sales competition with though, i.e. recognised and branded tennis wear.
it’s totally upto TW. If they can see Uniqlo through tennis apparel competitors and hurt sales of Nike and Adidas significantly, they can remove but I believe that TW might be generous to talk about Uniqlo products.

Uniqlo's dry-ex t-shirts significantly decreased in quality, it's more sandpaper lately than good poly. It had much better quality couple of years ago. The Nishikori/Fed tennis line is still ok, though, soft und thicker, poly+elastan, good sweat transportation and all.

The airism products are thin. I use the leggings as a base layer under my loose shorts but the top on its own over a sports bra. Haven't tried the tanks or knickers yet.

I used airism as my main shirt, but only black. It feels like youre not wearing anything, but the sweat absorption is something to be noted as you will feel it on your back with it being wet. The white color will lose its color and it becomes see through after couple of washes.

Where's the sock review?!:)

Where's the sock review?!:)

Uniqlo men's sports short socks -

Likes: It feels nice, it's anti-odor/anti-bacterial, and anti-slip. No problems with blisters or stinky feet for me. :) I like them better than Saucony performance socks which I was using before.

Dislikes: Only available in one size and it takes a little time to get them on to fit properly.

I wish they had performance hats available, or headbands, but none to be found at this time. :(

The sock on the left is from Novak's collection, it has a lot of ankle and feet support and blisters protection, the other is from Kei's / Federer's collection. White ones are nice and soft, but no ankle support. Both, as I said, are nice socks, and neither seem to be in stock anymore.

Uniqlo Dry Ex is good enough for me. Fabric is comfortable and also the price. Been using them ever since coz of the availability

Uniqlo's AIRISM underwear is life changing. I haven't found anything that suits me more than this stuff.

New tennis products are out under the Federer and Nishikori labels, and it looks like they've added hats and wristbands in addition to the polo shirts and shorts. Definitely going to check out the hats when they become available in stores.

Uniqlo change hat design often but US open hat was good. I thought I did not like when I receive it but When I wear it, it was a good hat. Hope new hats are same as previous one.

I can also make a quick review now, after having played in the stuff in the last two days.

Sizing: both the polo and the shorts in size L fit almost exactly as size L(5) from Lacoste (a smidge smaller than size L from Adidas). The socks are exactly the standard size for 43-45 European sizing. The wristbands are the same length as Nike double-wide wristbands, which means shorter than the Y3-Adidas ones and slightly longer than the standard Adidas wide wristbands.

Fit: the polo is a relaxed fit. Ditto for the shorts.

Materials: the materials used for the front and the back are different. The front is more plain weave, while the back is more perforated weave. The sleeves are the same as the front, while the coloured shoulder and side panels are from the same material as the back. The shorts are elastic enough to contain a couple of balls in the pockets.

Colours: the colours are beige, greyish-brown and Bordeaux (for the accents like piping, collar trim, on the socks and for all logos). The wristbands are brighter red, so no Bordeaux which is the only thing that I wish was different. The Bordeaux accents really give some pop to an otherwise very tamed colour scheme. Overall very nice and what I wanted.

Function: The stuff works well. I played twice in 20 degrees Celsius with relatively high humidity, and never had a problem with moisture transportation. Double socks, and the cushioning of the socks is also very good. I guess as the weather gets hotter we will see if there is anything else to be said.

Thanks for the review!

That being said I have to laugh at the 20 C (68 F) "moisture transportation"... It was 93 here in North Carolina yesterday and nothing came out not utterly drenched in sweat. I would LOVE 68 degrees right now

My one main issue with the regular Uniqlo shorts line up (Dry and Stretch) is that they don't offer white.... only grey, grey, black, blue. Now that you have a tennis presence you need to have white, Uniqlo. But I do love the quality on their regular shorts.

Yes you can. My hubs just bought the shorts. He prefers a crew neck to a polo so didn't want the top. I bought two of my beloved Airism tops for $7.90 a piece. I never had tried Uniqlo before Roger. We always purchased Adidas and Nike. Definitely love the prices of Uniqlo. We dont play tennis but we are gym rats and I am a runner.

did you have problem with thread unraveling ? I have one of my shirts with thread starting to unravel which is kind of annoying for relatively new shirt

Would you buy this Federer T for Rolland garros or Nishikori one ?

s-l1600.jpg
My preference is Federer's but I am more conservative in my sport clothing. Nishikori's is just
too many colors for my taste. Personally I would have loved for Fed to have this same outfit in black and white or navy and white with red piping rather than the brown.

Well, Uniqlo EU messaged me that they lost my package... and cancelled another order (didn't have the supply, despite website saying they did). Got black caps at least. Same as always, so they stay on your head really well even if you have lots of thick hair on top. Peck is still a bit too flat imo.

Also saw the free shipping but for some reason the caps and wrist bands are no longer available on the U.S. site
Those are sold out within a few days in US and Japan too.

Prefer Fed because Nishikori polo has seam line in the chest.
Some people might not like the seam line.

uniqlo needs to improve shipping process. I had two separate orders and both are free two day shipping but one package was sent by regular mail and two day shipping package is “pending” to track. Looks like it will take 7 days to receive a package through two-day shipping service.....

Picked up my ups uniform from my local Uniqlo. Was pleasantly surprised to see they brought in the matching socks :)

Meguru Yamaguchi active shirts and Jackets can be good for tennis too.
Federer wore those shirts for his practice sessions.
A little thicker than usual practice shirts but still have mesh materials for back panel of shirts.
Spring and fall even winter with layer will be perfectly good.
Might wear it during summer too.
Jacket is thin so good for late spring or late summer. It’s not like stretch sweat jacket.
Here is a link for products.

I love the tennis jackets that Uniqlo had realeased for Kei and Nole in the past, the materials, the fit, the price etc. I just don’t understand why they don’t sell the ones that Roger wear, dying to get a dark color or black one that has the patches( it looks better than the plain ones they sell in their site)

Those T-shirts look Great, they look like nicer thicker material in the pictures in website. But they don't have those Uniqlo Logos on them. how did you get the ones with Uniqlo logos above ?

Why not?
Uniqlo UTme does not need to produce products in bulk. It’s just printing service so uniqlo can just change the design and when they receive orders, just print in their blank shirts.

Yes. It’s thicker and good thing is color does not change after high heat press for these. I made it myself. Probably no one really say anything with retail version (without logo) but when I wear these (with logo), people give me nice comments.

I have this polo, very nice, not expensive, lightweight feel, but it's 100 % polyester, not sure it's breathable like Nike Dri Fit, and with the sweat, the polo have started to smell bad .

you should make the Roger 102 T-shirts with these Yamguchi t-shirts............ they would look even better than previous ones

That’s not a bad idea haha.
Still Yamaguchi patterns are good without 102 image ^_^
Probably I will get some when they are on sale. Polo were on sale for $15 but passed since I prefer crew.
