Uniqlo US Open

Although I understand that the partnership between UNIQLO and Roger is not about selling tennis clothing, I do not fully understand UNIQLO's approach (marketing). Now it's less about UNIQLO bringing out their own sports (tennis) line analogous to Nike or Adidas, but so far they don't make much capital out of their partnership with Rog. I'm not primarily interested in the RF brand, but just in Rog as a testimonial. On the website (Europe) Fed dives exactly 4 times a year for about 2 weeks (maximum) and that only in connection with the release of his clothes to the slams. I mean, if it's about bringing people closer to the UNIQLO brand, why don't you use Roger as a testimonial more? With a 10-year contract where it's foreseeable that he won't play for the full term, I just can't understand that. Why not let him advertise shirts, sweaters, whatever? Or let him design a line - even if outside the RF brand - e.g. polo shirts with UNIQLO logo on the sleeve (or chest) which you can sell for 5-10 dollars more because of him. Something to really benefit from Rog's fame and popularity (I mean Rog is "premium", in my opinion this is a no brainer). So far it's very thin and you wonder what UNIQLO will do if Rog doesn't play any more? He will hardly become better known after his active career. UNIQLO doesn't have anybody else in Europe who is somehow known and promotes the brand. Just don't understand their approach. I don't buy a sports superstar for a lot of money and then advertise any T-shirts that have video game characters printed on them. I would have understood UNIQLO sees itself as an alternative to H&M, Zara and co. but that's not how it works. Every major department store chain in Europe has restrained, simple fashion as its own brand. I don't see any USP on the part of UNIQLO or any higher attractiveness compared to these trading houses that (also) don't come around the corner with any celebrities but can offer a more extensive shopping experience compared to UNIQLO (as there are countless other labels besides their own brands).

I think it's a pity because I would see the partnership of UNIQLO and Rog as a missed opportunity so far. Little is done to introduce the tennis fan to UNIQLO, let alone a broader mass. I don't see how they want to establish themselves outside Asia? The quality of the tennis clothing is undoubtedly good and is in no way inferior to Nike and Adidas. But what is the point, after all, it's not about tennis clothing, right? At the same time, however, I don't see any qualitative advantage over the European top dogs H&M and Zara when it comes to normal clothing. Here also the price point hardly pulls. A peculiar approach that UNIQLO has chosen here so far, they have signed the tennis star par excellence for a lot of money even beyond his active career and make nothing of it. Even Nike got more out of Rog and that although there tennis segment a) is far from number one priority and b) they have many other sports stars to market. But even there they had Rog advertise new sneakers or something like that. As I said, I just don't understand ...

PS: It's just as incomprehensible to me to advertise a tennis line four times a year but not to offer anything in between. The production in additional colours should not be too expensive and could also be limited. So the tennis fan would look at the website at least more than four times a year and maybe he buys some socks to qualify for the free delivery (again a no brainer in my opinion).

I think Uniqlo's signing of Fed is more about global brand marketing & recognition than selling tennis clothes or even sports clothing. They're not very big in sportswear.

When I visited their 12 floors HQ flagship store in Tokyo, they barely have a few items of tennis clothing. And that's not even displayed in a proper isle. It's actually hung at the end, BETWEEN the isle.

I belive a lot of what he wears during press conferences is also uniqlo clothing ie sweaters, blazers etc. I think when he retires you will then see an RF line of "life wear" I think that may be the real reason they signed with him.

Anyone that ordered online get their items out for delivery yet? I ordered the shorts, hat, and some other non-tennis stuff on Tuesday morning and still no delivery confirmation after 2 days.

Same for me. I placed my order @6:30am Eastern time on Tuesday and received a confirmation email five minutes after I placed my order but no delivery confirmation email as of Thursday 2pm Eastern time.

Isn't that kind of fast? I think my orders would take like 5 days to reach me.

I dont' think that's what he meant. I usually get a confirmation email 24 hours after from Uniqlo that my order has been shipped. It usually take 5 days to get to me. In this case, no email confirmation that the placed order items have been shipped.

Ah okay. Nvm then.

They are talking about shipping notification. Not “delivered status”.
Looks like Uniqlo is just operating their online shop by one person.
They are super slow, if they receive higher volume of orders. Definitely, they are under staffed.
Usually you will get one or two days to get shipping notification but looks like it might take extra days.

Also they frequently cancel orders so I always concerns about cancellation even though I get order confirmations.

Ah, okay, yes I meant I did get an order confirmation by email, but I did not get any notification that the order was processed and sent out for delivery. Usually when I order from them I would get the delivery notice about a day after I put in the order and have it arrive in about 5-6 days as well, but it certainly seems like there is a delay.

Isn't the fact that there is an actual thread on this line of clothes proof enough that investing in fed has brought their products to a market that they were never tapping before? i know several people that have bought uni's "normal" polos after going on their site for fed's gear. fed moves more product that people think. giving up that lame rf logo for the $$ and new line with uni was a no brainer.

LOL.... My son is going to USO next week and he will be wearing Djokovic Uniqlo gear. He hope to get Djokovic to autograph his shirt, LOL.... I posted in the thread that I bought a whole bunch of brand new Djokovic's Uniqlo gear at a good will store: https://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/index.php?threads/lucky-me-nice-find.247471/page-78#post-13583287

I also bought a whole bunch of djokovic's uniqlo when I was in San Diego: https://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/ind...uniqlo-wardrobe-by-luck.645473/#post-13434679

I do not drive Peugeot. Peugeot left the US market in the early 80's due to relabilities and no one here in the US bought them. Everyone that I know or hang out with drives Lexus because it is the most reliable car around and comfortable too. I myself drive a Lexus RX350 and my wife drives an IS350. My older son bought those cars for us. He himself also drives a Lexus RX350 but he also has a Porsche 911 weekend car. The porsche 911 requires a lot of maintenance that it is not just an everyday car, unless you have multiple Porsche cars in the garage.
First, you are replying to a tree.
Second, aside great quality/reliability, Lexus (along with Toyota) are the most boring cars on the road

Can’t speak for the population at large, but my wife and I would never have discovered uniqlo if Federer did not wear them and I can say it’s one of the primary places we get our everyday clothes now (so comfortable, efficient, and relatively low cost!), and we have spent more $ on their products than what we would spend on workout apparel.

They have a limited selection 4x a year. For the USO- socks gone in a second, didn't even offer the white shirt he said he would wear. Any other times of the year- MORE PRODUCT COMING SOON on a blank page. They need a full fed line available at all times. I posted a Uniq questionnaire from their site, it said "Which Roger items would you buy: sweatsuits, jackets, etc." Right! Like they MAKE those.

Just let me know when these are avail online at anytime, right?

It doesn't make any sense...

That is indeed difficult to comprehend. Not that I am per se interested in the US Open line, but you know from Fed that he likes simple, clean designs (and is a fan of white in general). Ergo, he wears several white shirts a year. It's absurd that the producer and sponsor de facto censors himself and doesn't offer these items to the customer. After all, everyone has more than one white cotton shirt in their closet. Let Fed's fans have more than one white tennis shirt ...

The whole approach UNIQLO has to Fed so far is not conclusive for me. And yes, I realize that Fed wears UNIQLO clothes while press conferences, only nobody watches press conferences of tennis players until a few tennis nerds. How do you want to make the brand better known?

I know you've probably done that already, but you should contact the customer service. Similar thing happened to me during the FO and a few of my orders got cancelled. They mentioned something about the lack of items, even though they were available before and after my purchase. They're really unreliable this year sadly.

The first bolded section is 100% correct. The second bolded section kinda goes against the first one.

I can see how folks can get frustrated with the availability of Fed and Nishikori's items. But I think most are missing the point of Uniqlo signing Fed. It wasn't solely to sell tennis clothes. In fact, tennis clothes are likely not far up the priority list. His celebrity and popularity is being used to promote Uniqlo as a whole, for all their items, specifically in their Global Brands section. If new customers are coming in to buy the tennis gear that's great, but Uniqlo is aiming to draw in more people to buy things from their full range of offerings, e.g. lifewear/lifestyle or whatever they're calling that line. Tennis-related items are only ancillary to attracting people to their overall catalog.

For those that want all of the polos that Fed wears, including those outside the grand slams, their availability probably won't happen on a consistent basis, if at all. It's simply not in Uniqlo's primary interest.

While it apparently is upsetting to all the hardcore Federer fans, it's just a new day - Uniqlo's promotional usage of Fed's celebrity has a different business goal than Nike's. I might be a bit off but didn't Nike only use Fed to sell tennis gear - polos, shorts, shoes etc? Of course Nike is mostly just a sports gear company anyway, but I'm not sure Federer's image was used beyond promoting stuff outside the tennis world. But even if it was, it was likely for other "sports" items.

That is just not Uniqlo's only goal. In fact, sports items are a small part of what they sell. So all the criticism of Uniqlo's marketing acumen seems to be off-base or ill-informed. Out of their approximately 1250 international stores, only 100 are in the US/Europe. That should show you where there main focus is - Asia. And of course they are trying to increase the viability of their "Global Brands" segment.

(Maybe TMI, and just to be clear, Uniqlo has four segments - Uniqlo Japan, Uniqlo International, GU and Global Brands.) Out of all four of these segments, Global Brands is the only one not to have had an operating profit in FY 2018. And that is where Federer comes in - to help increase the profitability of this segment. Their Global Brands line is not just tennis stuff, it's a whole range of clothes/accessories. Tennis is just a small part of this collection

So expecting Uniqlo to put a high priority on their tennis line is simply not understanding their overall business goal in signing Federer.

Gah, that would be disappointing. I'll give them a call today. Thanks for the heads up!

That would be super annoying. I ordered the black kei hat. Then was at nyc store and didn’t grab any because I had already ordered online. I should have just bought them in nyc and canceled my online order.

Just called them, and the customer service rep confirmed there is a processing delay on all tennis apparel due to high demand. They told me to call them back if there is no shipping notification by tomorrow and they'll escalate it to their "order investigation" department. But I'm sure they'll all say the same thing, at this point it seems like a waiting game.

No sign of the US Open top in store according the person working there apparently not getting it I'm in Asia. The Go Roger tees are available they have a new design as seen in the poster below its all print on demand can choose between the Roger 100, Roger 101 and two other designs that just says Roger.

There's a print for special Kei as well.

Funny that I had multiple orders but one of them have shipping notification but I placed one more order and got shipping notification a few hours later. Strange.... sent the email and will see what the answer is.....

That’s UTme service.
They will just print their blank t-shirt and give it to you immediately.
If uniqlo bring the concept in US, almost they can kill local t-shirt business because it will be hard to compete with Uniqlo.

I know Taiwan, China and Japan have UTme. I've yet to see the service in other parts although Korea says they do. Visited their flagship store but it didn't offer any. Confusing.

The US Open kit is available in SEA though

Uniqlo has serious troubles in Korea because of trade war between two countries. Koreans boycott Japanese products and Uniqlo closed several stores. If you visit Uniqlo stores in Korea recently, it might be one of reason.

Hey everyone,

I ordered the Fed kit on the 20th, but when I came here seeing that some orders, I decided to check my Banking app last night since I also didn’t receive the shipping email.

Sure enough, the original charge disappeared, so I ordered the kit again around midnight, and got a shipping confirmation within a half hour. In fact, I got the shipping confirmation before the order confirmation LOL

Odd how UniQlo handle online orders. I don’t know if it made a difference this time, but I made an account with their site when I ordered the kit the second time.

They will charge the payment when they actually ship the items.
Your banking app might only show pending transactions.
You might have two separate orders. Check order numbers and if you placed two order, cancel one of them before they ship two same packages and charge twice.

Update: My two orders which placed on Tuesday, were shipped today but it was after I contacted them.

You predicted what exactly happened. The order that shipped was my first one I made on the 20th. I don’t mind having two of the kits though so oh well ‍♂️

Got the email that my order shipped Friday. Check the tracking this morning, and they haven't even dropped it off to the carrier yet.

Picked up Fed black henley shirt, Kei black hat and Fed socks, both black and white, at store in Beverly Center in LA last week. They had all the of Kei's outfits and Federer black outfit.

Ugh. I wanted to like the Nishikori outfit. Got it yesterday. Unfortunately, Uniqlo constructed the shirt by sewing on the black stripe rather than printing it. Thus it creates a seam on the chest line that would chafe me like crazy. Federer kit comes next week.

What is Fed going to wear for his day matches? Isn't black an issue in the day time?
