Unpopular opinion: Djokovic never wins another Slam

Novak wins the olympics in fine style but over the shorter format of best of 3. I don’t see him holding up in best of 5 throughout a tournament if he is pushed. I don’t think Carlos and Jannick will be lulled into the false sense of security Djokovic created any more and if Novak fans are to be believed the Knee is still a big worry moving forward. Jannick still looks the man to beat on hard currently and will be fresh for the US open hard court swing.

Novak will amass 100 titles and beyond of course, however a 25th slam is no by no means a certainty. Us open is historically Novaks toughest slam as well and will be prone to a comedown after such an emotional high at the olympics. I think 25 has to come in 2025 otherwise it’s curtains. So that’s 5 opportunities from now. Carlos will be there pushing for the career slam in Australia whilst Jannick will be highly motivated to defend the title, so if Djokovic is to challenege he needs to have a super strong end to the year in order to be no1/2 otherwise his draws going into 2025 will be much tougher. Novak is currently 6/7 in the race. French open I see musetti and Carlos creating bigger problems as they develop further on the clay, and WIMBELDON, Carlos looks like he is slowly becoming a master of the slower grass so I can see him three-peating. Obviously injuries and health could still factor in so maybe Novak will benefit somewhere and get 25 done.

I’ll say if he doesn’t have another slam by end of Wimbledon season next year then yea he won’t win another one. He’s got 4 more shots to win a slam

I said this after he won the gold.

Obviously, it's still possible, but I think he's reached a situation similar to Federer's later years...

Capable of winning against Djok in Bo3 but not Bo5. I think Djok will find himself in that same position against Alcaraz and Sinner.

Last time Novak make history and achieved the pinnacle of his career (2016 French Open), his motivation tailed off for a little. 4 slams in a row + finally winning the slam that eluded him?

It’s possible that rn he doesn’t care anymore and is just gonna go and play for fun until he retires. But I don’t see that happening tbh. I feel like the Olympic Gold not only fulfilled and gave him what he was missing, it’s also gonna fuel him. He just proved to himself that he can still win big titles vs the world’s best. He’ll be itching to keep winning as long as possible, to try and keep the new kids like Raz and Sinner at bay.

Pretty much same feeling I have. If seeing how he played against Alcaraz has convinced people that he won't win another Slam then I guess he will just have to prove them wrong for the 50th time. As long as his body holds up and he's not injured, he can still turn it on and win against the best.

I tend to agree but you are a brave man saying this in Djokovic Tennis Warehouse, a place where 95% of the posters are Serbian and/or Djokovic (and Seles) fanatics. Kudos for your guts.

Why would the GOAT not would another slam? Because of Sineraz?
These guys can't stop him forever.

Injuries, sure. That can happen. Otherwise he will win 2/3 slams

The first page of gppd is literally all novak titled threads. Some other topics would be nice as well.:)

So true. That is what happens when the sub is atleast 95% Serbians and/or Djokovic fanatics. It makes the place pretty redundant and boring as it is nothing but Djokovic worship and blind Djokovic adoration 24/7.

That is why I spend most of my time in the FPPS. They actually talk about a variety of players, not just 24/7 worshipping one, no matter what he/she was doing.

He won’t win another slam. I thought the same well over a year ago.

There seems to be a renewed interest in him winning slams due to him winning his Gold. He had one of the easiest draws and will face much tougher draws at any slam going forward.

If wishful thinking does it for you, then wish away.

I was thinking about this yesterday as he was winning gold.

My gut tells me that 7x Bo5 is just too much of an ask on his body considering the competition. Idiot fanboys will tell you it’s a weak era but there are some really great young players out there and Carlos is a lock for ATG short of an injury.

I don’t think Djoker is a top 4 favorite at any slam at this point. And while lots of things could break his way producing an “easy” slam… I’m doubtful.

This is hilarious considering what this place was like in 2014-2017… just a legion of Fed fans trashing Djokovic and filling match threads with salt. I called it even then - the numbers would dictate the fans.
With Fed firmly in 3rd and now retired this place is a graveyard for his fans.

Funny how in 2019 we were thinking of how Djokovic and Nadal were trying to keep the new kids (Zverev, Tsitsipas and Medvedev) at bay.
*foreshadowing intensifies

I wouldn’t bet against him!

Another school of thought is that a healthy Djokovic has been beaten rarely at Slams since 2021. He has won 7 of 13 Slams with 4 losses when healthy including 3 in Finals and this year‘s debacle where he looked sick at the AO and gave a walkover at the FO. A healthy Djokovic has one loss to Nadal at the FO before the Slam final stage in the last four years.

Endurance is not a problem for athletes in their mid-late thirties when they take care of themselves with dedication like Djokovic does. He might be harder to win three sets against in Best of 5 when healthy than two sets in Bestof3. If he is 100% healthy, I think he is a threat to make every Slam final for a while still.

The last time he lost to someone who didn't go on to win the slam was to Wawrinka USO 2019. If he can continue this streak til Wimbledon next year he will break Roger's record. Tough but doable. Roger was in his prime, Novak is in his 30's

All he needs is to be in a final vs anyone not named Carlos or Jannik and he can win by sheer will

What do you think his probability of getting the 25th? Obviously, if Alcaraz and Sinner are ranked 1-2, then his probability diminishes. I say his probability hovers around 30%!

But organizers are making sure that he doesn't have to play them both. They play each other in the SF and then he only has to play one of them in the last match.

I didn't see him winning the Gold medal match over Carlos either
Bo3! But ur right, I didn’t think he could do that either. May not have if Carlos had managed to get it to the third set. But yeah Djoker has a way of defying expectations

Right?

And bo5 can work in his favor too. More time for doubt to creep in

The guy had knee surgery FFS. Still made it to Wimbledon final and won olympic gold. He is winning another slam and then all you are left to do is hold that empty "weak era" bag.

Not that unpopular, maybe he wins one, maybe zero. This year he looked poor in his slam matches vs Sinner and Alcaraz, but it was only two matches, not a big enough sample. And he was thoroughly outplayed in both, Bo3 or Bo5 wasn't a factor, would have lost either way. The Olympics win vs Alcaraz was a closely contested match, it is indeed possible he would have lost if it was Bo5, but last year at Wimbledon he perfectly could have won despite losing. It's not like he lost because it was Bo5 as he had clear chances in that match. And the YEC matches vs both of them he won very comfortably, it's not like he would have lost them if they were Bo5 (granted, no slam has the YEC conditions though).

Before the Olympics I thought maybe he was finished, at the Olympics we saw the Djokovic of 2023. We'll say how it translates into Bo5 for the short-term future. But in the past 3 years he only lost to Alcaraz and Sinner (and Nadal at RG) at slams, so he only needs a little slip by them to take the title even if he's not able to beat them anymore.
