Keeps taking sets in their hard court encounters doesn't he.

yup.. he's taken one set in every hard-court match they've played for a grand total of 3 sets, which is incidentally also the total number of sets he's ever taken from rafa..

this will no doubt be rafa's first real test and his first match to go the distance this week.. <gulp>

peace

He thrashed him on clay, should be a closer match on hard. Let's hope straight set win this time. I am guessing 6-4 6-4. Kohl isn't actually too bad. Murray has to play Nalbandian. That's brutal QF opponent.

Kohl is a player who can surprise you. He's beaten guys like Roddick and Djokovic before, and has taken sets from Nadal and Federer (not sure about his H2H with Murray). If Kohl comes solid and serves well he can win a set, especially since Nadal hasn't looked all that great so far. The key against Nadal, to me, is to get an early break and stick with it. If Nadal runs away with a break, it's game over.

Except that on hard court, Nadal tends to give the break back (unfortunately for him) like what happened vs Anderson in the second set. Can't imagine Kohl beating him though.

Kohl played terrible against Lu and even if he played out of this world he doesn't know to play Rafa..
Nadal wins in 2 easy.

Anderson is a nobody, and Rafa still got taken to a breaker. Who says it'll be easier tonight?

i think that's the long and the short of it right there: the german just doesn't know how to beat rafa..

that said.. while i hope you're right regarding rafa winning in 2 sets, i'm not so sure it's gonna be necessarilly 'easy'..

vamos, rafa.. prove me wrong and make it look easy!

peace

Kohlsch. is a solid player, but I think nadal is ready to beat this guy in 2. Nadal is playing a lot better now than in the early part of AO and the changes in his hard court game have been interesting this year.

Vamos. :)

i hope you're right.. it would be awesome to see rafa finally send the german packing in straight sets on hard court..

Now the commentators are plugging the new Donnay

"The thinnest frames you've seen in thirty years!" Lol

According to feedback from TT... the beam width is 17 mm, not 15 mm

Very poor start for Nadal

Nadal has too many lousy starts like this. He needs to figure out how to hold his first service games at all costs.

And you magically shows up in this thread when Kohly breaks?

Holmes: Hmmm... I see what you mean there Dutch-Guy. This almost, but not quite, remind me of the fanboys/women (Mun, Vortex et al) that make an appearance in a Sir Roger match thread the moment he goes a break down...

Watson: Stop teasing Holmes! Good advice from Darth here to just enjoy the match!

LOL, this match has just started, I actually do other things in life other than watch tennis (believe it or not). what could you possibly want?

I just find bizzare that you only comment on Nadal's matches.
You were rooting for Wawa early yesterday til he lost the breaker, then you(and other Fed fans) disappeared...

I'm with you. The better players in his draw will definitely NOT let him get away with these early goof-offs.
