Hey guys, I owe you some news about my recovery. I’ve been carrying this injury for the past two years, and during this time I’ve been seeing many doctors. Truth be told, there were many different opinions, different diagnoses, different suggestions... It was not easy for me to choose which way to go and what to do. I took 6 months off last season hoping to come back fully recovered, but unfortunately I still felt pain. I really missed competing, it’s in my blood and I had to give it a try on AO. Anyhow, I agreed with my team that I would try different methods after I finish in Australia and a few days ago I accepted to do a small medical intervention on my elbow. It seems like I am on the good road now to full recovery. It’s quite a journey this one, I have to say. I’m learning a lot and for that I’m grateful. I’ve always taken care of my body and looked for the most natural ways to heal, and my body has rewarded me with some incredible years on tour. I am super positive and excited to follow my recovery through so I can come back to the place I love the most. The court. I’ll keep you posted and thanks for cheering me on!

"I accepted to do a small medical intervention on my elbow".

So it WAS his elbow they operated on and not his hand. That makes sense!

Small medical intervention reminds me of non evasive surgery. Aka a massage.

So Pepe kissing it better didn’t work? I’m shocked.

Pepe hate needs to stop.

Under the Pep he won a Doha title. Final in Rome. Semis in Madrid. When Agassi came aboard he got thrashed by Thiem at Roland Garros, thrashed by Berd and now thrashed by Chung.

He brought on Agassi to help make his strokes more efficient but clearly that hasnt helped. Pepe was helping guide Nole back to the top after the infidelity issues.

Why do you say that? Novak has at least 8 fans on this forum alone. He might have as many as 6,000-7,000 worldwide.

Djokovic is massively popular in China, and just Beijing center court has been filled with over 10,000 pro Djokovic fans alone, a little over the 6 to 7K you mention worldwide. So lets drop the old shtick that Djokovic doesn't have fans worldwide. He might not be Federer or even Nadal in terms of popularity, but he has a solid fan following around the world.

I really hope Djokovic has another great run after returning to full fitness.

But if there is no old shtick what is left of TTW?

He has 8+ million twitter followers.

You can always count on Djoker fans to be salty :)

Sorry guys just having a bit of fun…don't get too bent out of shape.

Not the best news fans could have expected, but at least he still intends to come back. On the bright side, even if Djokovic comes back with physical limitations he'll still be better than ever because his tactical awareness improves with age, right @RF-18 ?

This will not stop the endless speculating. What is a "small surgical intervention?" It's deliberately vague. If indeed the elbow was the cause of a 6 month absence and two years of pain, why would the intervention be "small?"

It is possible it was to remove fragmented pieces of bone that were causing him pain. They would have seen where the chipped pieces were and the cut into him to clear them out.

Small medical intervention = probably an arthroscopy. I think he'll need another good 3-4 months to recover. He should've done that by last year! Now he'd be able to train properly. I guess we'll only see him in full activity

You never know with Pepe, maybe they had an actual intervention, all sat in a room and talked about his elbow

Sounds like Djokovic's team were suggesting surgery for quite some time, but Novak was resisting. I obviously don't know the details and he understandably was most probably scared that the elbow if operated will never function as it used to, but still, to carry an injury for over a year and continue to hope that it'll heal naturally is naive IMO. Anyway, hopefully everything will go smoothly with the recovery, and Novak will make an epic comeback (preferably during the FO :p, jk). Best of luck to him.

He's gonna be out for quite some time, I doubt FO is the right for him to come back in

I am I the only person hoping that he WILL recover???

You made me rethink. I'm salty over him robbing Fed of another 3 GS...But now with him on 12 and Fed on 20, he's much less of a threat now in a historic sense. Frankly, I think a return to form might help Fed, since the player most likely to suffer is Rafa.

If Rafa wants to chase Fed through history then he will still be playing for 4-5 years after Fed has retired. Having Djok around to foil him might be the best things for Fed fans.

No I don't think so.

Many of us hope he can fully recover, although I must say that both Murray and Djokovic were not wise in taking the Steve Jobs route to a serious medical issue. Should've opted for the surgical procedure 6 months ago and then allow for recovery to take it's time.

I remember Roger being asked about Murray's hip issue at their charity event in Scotland and his advice was sage in hindsight - "Take your time, don't rush it." And what does Murray do? Show up in Australia to compete. I think their competitive instinct got ahead of Murray & Djokovic - must've been hard to sit on the sidelines and watch old man sweep up slam titles.

Nevertheless it's not fun to see all these surgeries in the sport.

Now Nadal, I must admit I have less sympathy for. And it's not just because he is closest to Roger's slam count.

He has cried wolf IMO too many times and showed up to win tournaments right after. Plus I don't think his playing style and scheduling do his body any favors. When he whines about the calendar and surfaces while chasing ranking points/money at non-mandatory events, it engenders further ill-will from his detractors.

Couldn't resist getting that rant out in a Djoker thread, right. lol

I'm sure Nadal will survive without your sympathy. In fact, in a few months we'll likely be right back to where we were.

Such confidence!

Always hedging their bets, Nadal fans. :)

Not sure where you were going with it, but yes, after RG, the slam differential will likely be the same it was before the AO... same as it was prior to W 2017... same as it was prior to AO 2017.

Right back to where we were.

Who's going to beat Nadal(if healthy) at the FO?

True, but what if Federer can win Wimbledon 2018? For Nadal to have any chance to surpass Fed's slam count, Federer needs to stop winning slams for good.

Sure he won't be injured for the FO? That one he never fails to show up for right.... 'toughest' surface too!

In the end, who knows if he will surpass Fed, but chances are he'll make Fed fans nervous a few more times, beginning in Paris.

Nikdom should be familiar with the pattern by now. Fed fans celebrate as if the GOAT debate is over... then Nadal wins the next slam

Sooner or later these Next Gens will start taking out all the old men; been waiting for a couple years! I still can't believe Fedal is still relevant much less actually still taking multiple majors! Djokoray really must have made the difference and their absence has allowed the old, broken down geezers to relive days of glory from 10 yrs ago! :p ;)

All Big Four players have been taking advantage of these youngsters who can't step up and a generally weak field. Djokovic was doing it from 2014-2016 and Federer and Nadal did it last year and are doing it still.

That’s interesting.
Why does Djokovic have such a large following in China?
