Update from Djokovic's FB page

That’s interesting.
Why does Djokovic have such a large following in China?

He endeared himself by actually speaking Chinese IIRC! Winning it so many times in a row helped I'm sure! It's only morons in the United States that dislike a player for no damned good reason! I remember how we treated Martina early on and Lendl to the end of his career! We'd rather cheer our own rude a-holes like Connors & McEnroe than be civil to great champions from other countries! :p ;)

Now Nadal, I must admit I have less sympathy for. And it's not just because he is closest to Roger's slam count.

He has cried wolf IMO too many times and showed up to win tournaments right after. Plus I don't think his playing style and scheduling do his body any favors. When he whines about the calendar and surfaces while chasing ranking points/money at non-mandatory events, it engenders further ill-will from his detractors.

It has to do with the pain he inflicted on Federer for over 10 years. Everything else is your fake justification.

Couldn't resist getting that rant out in a Djoker thread, right. lol

I'm sure Nadal will survive without your sympathy. In fact, in a few months we'll likely be right back to where we were.

Fedtrolls are obsessed with Nadal. Even on a Djokovic thread he has to show his hate. Pathetic!

In the end, who knows if he will surpass Fed, but chances are he'll make Fed fans nervous a few more times, beginning in Paris.

Nikdom should be familiar with the pattern by now. Fed fans celebrate as if the GOAT debate is over... then Nadal wins the next slam
This is true.

Though not all Fed hands believe it's over. Few probably really do.

Career is most likely over as far as being #1 and winning multiple majors in a year. He could still come back and give the big boys trouble and maybe win another major or two before his career ends, but his career could also be over now that he had the surgery. Surgery is surgery, and it's tough to come back from when you are talking about competing in professional sports. That's what makes it all the more unbelievable what Roger was has been able to do since coming back in January of 2017. I doubt very seriously that Novak can come back and have that kind of success after having surgery, but it's definitely possible because he's a unique champion. My heart goes out to him and his fans. Cheers.

Get well soon Novak. That chase to Fed is never happening, but waiting to see the other one to Nadal. It sure is possible and if he gets one solid run, I predict, at best, he only ties Nadal at 17-18. And sure quite some more Masters and WTF can come and the AO record, so really, a top 5 all time career, no doubt. But for now, get well soon.

Anyone who has suffered a joint in jury knows you never recover 100%. Now these guys are ultra rich and have access to the best medical care in the world, and it still isn't enough, doctors simply can't change physique. There's a reason tennis players careers drop off a cliff when they reach early 30s.

I hope he recovers but this isn't good news by any means.

Roger said he fell in bathroom and got injured n hence had surgery.. It was not even career threatenin.
Novak has been dealing wid this injury for two years .
You fed fans even wana compare injuries now?

Djokovic is massively popular in China, and just Beijing center court has been filled with over 10,000 pro Djokovic fans alone, a little over the 6 to 7K you mention worldwide. So lets drop the old shtick that Djokovic doesn't have fans worldwide. He might not be Federer or even Nadal in terms of popularity, but he has a solid fan following around the world.

His fans on social media may be less in number than Fedal fans but they make up for it in dedication! I must admit despite the fact I really admire Djoko I've not yet found a way of successfully engaging with them. I always get the impression they regard supporting another player as proof of the moral degeneracy of the universe!!

You made me rethink. I'm salty over him robbing Fed of another 3 GS...But now with him on 12 and Fed on 20, he's much less of a threat now in a historic sense. Frankly, I think a return to form might help Fed, since the player most likely to suffer is Rafa.

If Rafa wants to chase Fed through history then he will still be playing for 4-5 years after Fed has retired. Having Djok around to foil him might be the best things for Fed fans.

Totally agree. Djoko back in top form would not be good news for Rafa.

Yes, I must admit this is the hardest thing for me trying to be a fair-minded fan. In his latest interview I think he was talking about the difficulties of transitioning from hard to clay. Yet this is what he wants players to do for WTF -to switch to clay immediately after Bercy and then right back for the AO and US Spring season.

One hopes this 'small intervention' is not just a sticking plaster solution, if he needs a proper surgery he should get it done & sit out the entire season if needed.

That’s all you needed to say.

Not every thread has to be a p*ssing contest between Rafa fans and Fed fans.

Pepe hate needs to stop.

Under the Pep he won a Doha title. Final in Rome. Semis in Madrid. When Agassi came aboard he got thrashed by Thiem at Roland Garros, thrashed by Berd and now thrashed by Chung.

He brought on Agassi to help make his strokes more efficient but clearly that hasnt helped. Pepe was helping guide Nole back to the top after the infidelity issues.

Wowwww. He won a Doha title.

Impressive

Never say never with today's age limit being pushed in tennis and across different sports and players seemingly recovering after surgery better than before. Surgery is not a career death sentence it used to be.

I think Novak knows what he's doing, I expect him to have another great run in the future. As long as he takes his time to come back and the motivation is there I think he'll remind us all what a champ he is.

Here's the thing though, outside of Federer the top guys are breaking down.

We talk about the age limit being pushed, but that's more about Fed than the other guys at this point.

Roger never said that. He was running a bath for his girls and felt something in his knee while bending over. He never fell. Minor point, but corrected for accuracy.;)

I never believed that story to be honest.

What do you believe, then?

I believe he was so angry after another loss to Djokovic that he did something dumb.

Either a momentary outburst of anger and a dumb mistake, or he went out and over-trained it in a frenzy.
So you think he hit his leg into the table of anger or something to that extent?

You made me rethink. I'm salty over him robbing Fed of another 3 GS.

I completely disagree that Novak "robbed" Fed of three slams. Fed choked away those matches, just as he choked away the successive USO semis where he held a total of four MP's against Djoker. How can anyone say Novak robbed Fed of the 2014 Wimbledon final, when Fed held a BP in the fifth set and completely choked on an easy ball? Had he made that, he would have served for the match. And the 2015 USO final was one of Roger's more epic chokes, when he squandered something like 20 BP's.

There was no "robbery" involved in these matches, Fed mentally wilted during the big points. Blame Roger, not Novak, for these cringe worthy big match performances.

Put a sock in it troll.

Wow; things must have really changed for the worse while I was away! A real shame it gets this nasty for little more than an opinion which I agree with! :p ;)

Right, it's not like Djokovic could have finished the 2014 Wimbledon final way earlier in four sets, or the fact that he was never behind in the 2015 USO final for his opponent to choke from a favorable position. Silly us who thought these are the things that actually happened.

I am I the only person hoping that he WILL recover???
This is TTW. For every person like me or you who enjoys all the top players and just wants to see fantastic matches there are 100 mindless fanatics who just want to tear down rivals of thier favorite. We all know who they are.

I don't really care if Djoker ever wins another slam. I'd be happy to see him in a M1000 final going toe to toe with Rafa or Roger. Good fans just want good tennis to watch.

Sounds like the word "robbed" set you off, not sure what to say except that Roger would have won those matches vs any other player. Djokovic was just too good and was in the middle of his absolute dominant stretch.

I'm not trying to say there was anything queer about it, just that Djokovic took away 3 chances for Fed to add Slams.

Which would have been a big assumption or stretch that Roger would get past Rafa in those 2 USO finals he missed out on! Only Nole had any real success around that time, so I'm just SMH! Roger was literally owned by Rafa during that period; needing a fast HC to even have a chance of winning! Only Nole has had 2 seven match winning streaks over Rafa! Roger's done well of late, but how long with that last? :p ;)

He can come back on top form, just stop that annoying and contrived “i give you all my love to all four corners” post match gesture:(

Made me chuckle , lol. every bit as comical as the AO roof theory.
I still don’t believe the story of how Fed injured his knee. I think he did it in the SF against Novak. It may have been brewing throughout the tournament.
He looked fine in the semifinal to me.

Good luck to Novak though , i hope he enters as a contender in coming USO.

Not at all. I'm not alleging any conspiracy. Just saying his story sounded like BS to me.

I'm trying to respond meaningfully to this, but I'm sort of unsure what you mean.
