Update from Southern...

Brilliant

This was posted on Southern's site yesterday. If you notice it lists updates (links) to AR, GA, KY, NC and TN.

It's interesting AND obvious that we all pretty much knew the 31 May would "not" slip and they were passing it onto the State's to decide. And we know that the states probably knew of this at least 3-4 weeks ago and were a little laid back getting the "surveys" out there to the respective players in their state. We (SC) have NO updates yet. 31 May is around the corner and betcha they won't have something out until Friday or even Monday (1 June). We had a survey sent to us which was due on Sunday. I heard AL is still deciding but on the fence and prob won't happen. LA had a survey that was due a few days ago as well. MS and NC site shows local play happening but no State Championships.

Anybody have any further updates from your Southern state?? Thanks

We heard officially today that leagues will be starting back up for the 2021 season down here in Atlanta. It appears our seasons will overlap. 18+ Summer will start July 5th (Sundays at 4:00 pm) and 40+ Fall will start July 18th (Saturdays at 9:00 am).

No word yet on continuing any of the 2020 seasons that were cut short. State Championships for 2020 still show postponed on the USTA GA website and not canceled. Also no word on what their intentions are with ratings this year. I have a few guys who do not want to sign up until that is ironed out.

Are they hesitating on signing up for the "2021" Summer and Fall leagues? Or were you referring to any resumption of 2020 leagues/playoffs?

Since a significant amount of your play is in early start leagues, I'm curious why someone would choose not to play the 2021 leagues due to a decision on ratings this year compared to other years. How is it different now? You still have to field teams/rosters to have teams advance from these leagues. Are some players willing to forgo playing the ESL to preserve their 2019 year-end rating and just play Spring if these 2021 ESL matches were to count?

The old trope is that there is regular time and then there is Southern time .... everything moves more slowly and no one is in a hurry..... guess it is true.

Nevada has been incredibly pro-active. Surveys were sent out first in April then again in early May. Announced leagues would start up again June 6 weeks ago "pending the state opening and approval from USTA national" . Our gov just opened us to phase 2 so am guessing we will get the full green light right about now.

No, no hesitation in signing up for our 2021 leagues. Both 18+ and 40+ plan to start in July. I created an 18+ team today and have had several people register for it. I have not heard any word on what they plan to do with any 2020 league that was stopped short or never began. I'm not sure why some are hesitating. I believe what you said is correct and they want to preserve there rating. But if they do not play they'll have to pass on the Summer 18+ league and Fall 40+ league.

I am in SC too. Yesterday all captains in our local league got an email from our LLC saying we are looking to get going probably by mid June, and also asking us to poll our teams about whether we would rather continue the spring league or scrap it and move into the summer leagues (singles, mixed, combo).

FYI we here in LV got all our schedules for the 18+ leagues today! So how many are excited about playing a 2:30pm match in July in Las Vegas at 110F temps?

If I start pre-loading liquid today, will I be ready by then?

Our local league just announced they aren’t resuming season. Most leagues hadn’t started. A minority had played one match. Not only aren’t they resuming. They are also not giving refunds or credits. Just taking $27 from everyone that registered.

I would be a little pissed at this, it will only hurt them going forward, what Section?

Southern. Yes I’ve already heard from several folks who are with me on boycotting until local league realizes who their constituents are.
