Win or lose, Lopez is playing some beautiful tennis and making Djokovic take it to another level if he wants to survive.

We have had some wonderful night sessions this year. This one is up there at or near the top.

Been a few years since we've had so many quality night matches. Feels like USO schedules just the big names on Ashe at night and that can lead to blowouts, but not this year.

Very happy with the night sessions.

I'm no Djokovic fan, dude. Its just weird to see a not only dominant, but also extroverted and humorous champion be so devoid of crowd backing. I don't buy the story about racism against east Europeans either. Goran and Safin were intensely popular.

You don't? Cilic also got no love earlier on

What an anti-climax. Lopez gifting that TB to Djokovic with too many UEs. Credit to him, though, for pushing Djokovic on the brink of exhaustion. I'm sure Nole is a very happy man now.

Djokovic said that the court is a little bit faster this year, that's interesting.

A page ago people were talking about how novak fans want more support and how they dont get what the complaints are. Then half this page is character based sensless bashing of novak.

Tennis fans are some real characters

Beating the elite when you are at your worst, is truly an indication that you are on a different level. Good job Djokovic. He survived his worst. Wouldn't call this a great match or even a good one, but maybe this one deserved a fifth set, given Lopez's impressive form in the fourth.

Well yeah, but Cilic doesn't have much personality, does he? Isner gets no love either, from his home crowd.

Hmm.. also, what you were saying about being extroverted, sometimes the way he shows us his "extroversion" doesn't seem natural. Can be cringey. His reaction (facial expressions and anger) when he misses a few shots (even when up and cruising) annoys some people. Lastly, his game is right out the textbook and many don't find it exciting. In reality, I don't have a clue why, those are just some reasons why maybe? Btw I'm primarily a Nadal fan, but I got a lot of love for Djokovic and how average he makes Nadal look even when Nadal is on. His game when on his scary, in a good way. Just making that clear

Well I'm glad I didn't go to bed after the first set. That was some pretty good stuff. Not really great quality wise, but for a match that was looking like a blowout after the 1st set, it really turned into some good drama. Too bad there was a bit of an anticlimactic TB at the end though.

What human can be. The dudes made the finals of every tournament he has played in the last year except one. Which is nuts.
if he beats Cilic he joins a very select few players to have reached all 4 finals in a season....another BIG plus over nadal.:)

Lopez didn't gift anything, it was Djokovic's great returning in that TB that made all the difference.

Good point. Obviously a great player, but his technique is generic as hell. In my opinion even Andy Murray has more aesthetically pleasing (albeit vastly less powerful and less consistent) groundstrokes

Lopez didn't recover from missing the 2nd point of the TB. Should've been 2-0 for him.

True. That was the chance Lopez blew to tie the match. Then, he couldn't maintain his high level of serving. I thought Lopez's serve would be the key in the TB and it didn't hit the top form.

Nonetheless, a spirited effort by Lopez. He did everything he could and pushed Djokovic hard. Djokovic was a tired man out there. If it went to 5th, Lopez might have outlasted him with big serves, but Lopez was tired himself as well, which might be the reason for all those UEs.

With the extra day of rest, Djokovic should recharge himself well. Cilic will push him, but I doubt he can beat Nole. I think only in form Roger or Wawa can stop him here. Let's hope they don't tire each other out and hand Djokovic a gift.

Lmao, Lopez done all right in the end, but was never gonna happen for him against this goddamn freak.

Forgot to write him for some reason.

Youre a charming fellow arent you?

I dig his character. Its much more oldschool. Everything about his game is more oldschool. Novak is basically a super version of agassi.
It isnt nearly as theatrical as fed or nadal with their whipping forehands, so it isnt as obvious how he wins. I think from the tv its hard to tell how early he takes the ball and how much pace he injects. And most people cant appreciate what he does on the court because it isnt what theyre used to seeing. He out performs his opponents by margins in all categories. Thats the mark of an incredible tennis player. People want to see forehand run around winners with balls exploding off the court. They cant fathom what novak does. I wont make claims about the tennis iq of those who hate on him, but i dont sense theyre a darren cahill

Joker is like the german soccer team. Messi and the rest get the commericials he just wins.
Strange you say that. It's kind of true, but I'm a huge fan of the German football team. Djokovic, not so much.
But then, I probably have different standards of quality for individual and team sports.

I don't think you need to be so defensive here. Now is not the time. Djokovic done well, but Lopez missed too. He had a chance to go up 2-0 on a missed 2nd serve return. Then Djokovic made 2 great returns to go up 4-1 but Lopez missed 2 makeable shots after that and Djokovic was cruising at 6-1. It was a bit of both tbh, which constitutes an anticlimactic TB since it wasn't close after much of the set was.

Djokovic's return was great indeed, but the direction of the serve was well within his reach. Lopez should've put in more angle and stretched Nole. Djokovic was tired and when stretched, he committed a lot of UEs. Also, the second point of the TB was a huge let off for Djokovic. Lopez had a crack at it but it was just too wide. Still, you can't deny Djokovic stayed solid in there and forced Lopez into mistakes. A great competitive Djokovic is.

Asthetically pleasing? His serve is nice its not roddicks serve, his forehand has variety and is nice for a bent arm forehand, he's got an absolutely perfect textbook backhand... generic? Generic is such a bad choice of words. It sounds like he beats your guys and now youre bitter. Thats fine but dont bash him for it
