Azarenka is Serena‘s pigeon. She’s 0-10 in slams against her
That's kind of why I felt Mertens would be a worse opponent for Serena than Vika because of the psychological factor.
Serena is friends with Vika and they've played a ton of times with Serena winning most of them.

I think either Vika takes it comfortably in straight sets, or Serena wins in a tight 3-setter. The H2H is pretty deceiving given that many of those matches were extremely close and Vika was often in a winning position.
2009 AO: Vika was up big before she suffered with the heat and had to withdraw
2010 AO: Vika was up a set and 4-0 before GOATrena came storming back
2012 USO: I think Vika was up 5-3 in the final set before Serena closed the door
2013 USO: Vika was down a set and down big time in set 2, before turning it around and forcing a third
I know there are many more examples but those are the first that come to mind. It's really going to depend on a) which Vika shows up, and b) which Serena shows up. I will say that if Vika maintains a similar level as she had against Mertens, Serena is in big trouble. She's going to have to step her game up a lot from the previous rounds if she wants to go through to another final.

Patriotism isn't racism. But I think that in a country like America, patriotism easily turns into racism, and that's the problem with patriotism, hence being pre-cautious with patriotism is very reasonable.
